Looking for a truck bed tenneau cover, the style that you can fold up and remove from the truck easily. Issue is, I have an 8ft long bed and I'd need to be able to remove it myself. A friend recommended the BAKFlip MX4, but I'm seeing that it doesn't fully remove and would be in the way of loading bikes. Any other recommendations that are moto-friendly are much appreciated!

I have the backflip on a 6.5 bed and I can remove it myself, it is secured at the front of the bed with two knurl nuts. You could probably remove the 8ft by yourself but it’s definitely a little awkward removing and installing mine(not hard just awkward) Since you have an 8ft bed I would just used a bike stand or similar to space the front wheel back slightly and leave the cover on. Just my two cents.

I have that cover. It actually has two thumb screws that will allow it to come off. 8 ft bed would be heavier. Here is a pic of where the bolt holes are with some easy thumb style nuts that just come off.

I've had a Gator Tri-Fold on mine for a year and a half and I love it.

Originally I bought it for a road trip to keep luggage dry. I didn't want to spend a lot because I didn't think I'd like having one but now I love it and even though this wasn't a lot of money the quality is good and I'm happy with it.

At the same time I bought the cover I bought a Bed Rug mat and liked that so much I sent it back and got a full Bed Rug.

I should add that my only problem with my tri fold is getting it perfectly lined up when I reinstall it. I may screw some stops into the bedside or even a paint mark would help me line up where the clamps go. I'm really OCD and it has to be perfect. Thirty seconds to remove it and 5 minutes to put it back on.

I have the backflip too. 6.5 ft is pretty easy to remove and install by yourself. You will have 2 metal tabs that stick out on each side of the bed when it's removed.

I know your pain. My mountain bike has a bar clamp center bolt with an arrow on it. Guess which way the arrow has to point, EXACTLY?

I just bought the roll up one for my long bed Tacoma. I can roll it up and cinch it an fit my bike in with the tailgate up. The trifold one I'd have to remove and store it if I wanted to haul my dirt bike.

Yep Truxedo roll up. Don’t ave to remove it to load the bike, just roll up to the cab and the front wheel can go up to it. With the cover closed everything stays dry under it, don’t see a benefit of the tri-fold unless it was a material that couldn’t be broke into for securing items in the bed

I have a Tonno Pro Hard Fold for my F150. It looks like a tri-fold soft cover, but has aluminum sheet below the vinyl, to keep someone from cutting through. I have a Lund Genesis Elite tri-fold on my Silverado, and it’s a basic soft cover, but the material is more like a convertible top than basic vinyl. Both come off with 4 lever-type fasteners each. The Hard Fold is definitely heavier, but not unbearable in a 6.5ft version. Lund and Tonno Pro are the same company, by the way.

I have the bakflip on my 6.5’ Ford bed. I fold it up against the back winsome and bought a bar that goes across the bed of the truck for $45 and put the wheel against that and it doesn’t mess the cover up at all.

I had the Backflip on my Tundra. Shit always got wet in the bed. They leak between each panel. When folded it rattled against the cab and you have zero back window vision. They are made cheap as hell. The latches are riveted into styrofoam and tin. I just put a Gator roll up on my 8 foot bed Ram and love it. Easy on the wallet. Can see out the window when rolled up. Doesn't rattle on the cab. But most importantly my shit stays dry and it folds up in 30 seconds.

Look up Peragon truck covers. I have one , pretty easy to install. Locks. Easy to take out and reinstall. Maybe all hard covers do this but it makes noise driving in high wind or over 70mph.

Truxedo Sentry. Aluminum roll up cover. It's secure, not noisy, and more water tight than most. Can either leave in place with bike in truck, or it's easy to remove and reinstall afterwards.

Thank you for the all of the replies, seems like the Truxedo Sentry would be a solid choice and I think it would work best with the CCR Sport tie down bar I have installed. Wondering about the longevity of the velcro and what it's like having diminished bed width, with the rails that clamp on to the bed sides? How many inches wide are each of the rails?

love my Bakflip and don't really care if i can see out the back window because with bikes and gear you can't see shit anyways. if i'm taking just my bike i put it in diagonally and can shut the tailgate without removing the cover.

also, i'm driving a new Ram 2500 and that bitch is tall, as are the new Ford SD's, it's a total pain in the ass to load bikes so i usually pull my trailer.

and if your shit is rattling on your cab then you clearly didn't install the rubber pads correctly. there should be NO hard surface on hard surface with these. mine came with about 50 strips of 3m pads to stick and they're all hidden when the cover is completely closed.

I had the Extang trifold on my 2011 Tacoma and loved it. It was a soft cover, but Im pretty sure they do make a hard plastic one also.
Had a slight accident with it (my fault) and was able to easily get spare hinge parts in a few days.

I have the Extang Trifecta. It's a "soft" style cover. I've had it for like 4 years, and no complaints. It's good for under $400.

The worst part is that the hinges are plastic, and a couple times I forgot to buckle the cover down and the hinge broke. But it's easy to get replacement parts.

You only know my pain if when you go to Starbucks the seem in the cup and the seem in the sleeve have to be perfectly in line and 180 degrees from the sipping opening.

Yeah, I'm a mess.

I think the velcro actually holds up better on these due to the more solid top...it isn't able to flop around in the wind as they do with a soft cover. I've seen people's soft covers have the velcro completely separating as they drive down the highway, and that seems way less likely with the solid top. As for how much bed width is diminished, it isn't significant. Unfortunately I can't give an exact measurement, as my current truck has the Rambox so the securement is slightly different, but on my previous truck, I don't recall the rails intruding all that much.

No velcro with the Extang model. It is held down by clamps.

I really went back and forth on this decision a lot but what made me choose the roll up was...

None of them keep all the water out so I wasn’t gonna choose between fold up and roll up based on that. I think the fold up does better, but not perfect.

The roll up one literally takes 30 seconds to take it out. It’s super easy to get out of the way and easy to get out.

I think it looks good but the fold up does look better.

Maybe some people don’t care but me personally, I’m not trying to have something contacting the paint on my truck at all. MX tracks...dust...scratches...you get my drift.

The roll up one is a great price!

Me personally, roll up is the way to go. Good luck on your purchase.

Almost the same for me. 2019 F250 with MX4. I can see one handlebar from the side mirror to just check on the bikes. The F250 has the step coming out of the tailgate, which makes it a little easier, but the height of the bed is pretty tall.
