RC and JS7 perfect seasons

Back when RC and JS7 got their perfect seasons, we weren't really able to watch AMA motocross in the UK like we do now. I'm just curious what the atmosphere was like. Was it boring to watch? Or was it just simply impressive?

I thought they were impressive, but boring at the same time if that makes sense.

boring in a way but crazy impressive. I think the one year RC led like 95% of the laps or something. There was a great ad (Fox?) that had the stats.

I was there the time RC lapped all the way to second at washougal? Very impressive. I’d say RC’s was a bit more impressive but stews was still crazy.

I loved it. McGrath in sx, and these in outdoors. I think rc also had a perfect 'overall' 1 year too. That amount of domination at the tip-top is absolutely incredible.

Carmichael was so far ahead that he raced himself, to see that was truely amazing...the real race for second position was hotly contested. For those who witnessed Carmichael in his prime was special.

Stewart was simply amazing, whether he won or crashed was spectacular either way. Cherish them memories.

Edit. My effing phone's predictive text is driving me nuts. I keep having to proof read and edit.

Technically 3 times depending on how you look at it. In 2005 he won all the overalls, but lost 2 of the 24 motos. He lost 1 to Reed and 1 to Windham.

So, perfect season in terms of overalls, but not motos. That's also impressive in its own right.

RC was a bad ass.

I look at it like he has two perfect seasons and three undefeated seasons.

Kinda like a perfect game vs a no hitter in baseball

Yeah, that's a better way to put it.

Another thing that I personally think makes RC's perfect seasons unique is that he has one on the 250 two stroke and one on the 450 four stroke.

I'm guessing if you were there you would remember where you were.

Grinning I think Honda might be suffering from the curse of the GOAT stateside.

Hard to believe it has yet to win a 450 SX title.

Would be cool for Kenny to get it done.

I was, and will always be a huge Stewart fan...but I will always concede that RC was damn sure the GOAT! The fact that he used his absolute determination to win, and worked his ass off to rise above his competition each year speaks highly of him even to this day. I'm not sure anybody works as hard as Ricky did any more. He just refused to lose!

This. RC won because he hated to lose and just used sheer determination to beat everyone. Stewart on the other hand is arguably the most naturally talented rider ever. He still worked hard but his abilities are jaw dropping. He does stuff on a bike that at times literally no other top pro would do.

And let’s not forget the fact that RC went something like 3 years without losing an overall. 😳

I love McGrath and his persona, but I got bored watching Supercross during his reign.

On the other hand, the way RC absolutely punished the track was so awesome to watch even if he didn't have anyone to race against. RV was similar. Just full out aggro no fucks given, but somehow still in complete control.

I love domination. To me, having a different winner every week or every moto is like "Shit, let's just draw cards out of the deck for the win." But someone like RC who _dominates_ is like "Can they do it AGAIN???" And I hold my breath the whole time. I wanna know what makes that person SO dominating.

I went to Thunder Valley the first year for one reason and one reason ONLY- to see RC ride and race. I've been back several times and when someone won, it was "yay... good for you. Do it again 23 more times".

So, yeah... RC was pretty exciting for me.

I like watching riders more than anything else, Always have. Racing is racing but talent amazes me. There was never a greater time to watch in amazement of what riders do than RC and JS. I've seen a lot of great rides from a lot of great pros but in my lifetime, RC, JS and Ron Lechien are the only riders that I have watched that made me go OMG. It was sickening how fast they went. It was like waiting on a bomb to go off. How could they go that fast. Not to take anything away from Ron Lechien because I mentioned him, because the things I saw him do were amazing but RC and JS did in every time they hit the track. Never a greater time in MX in my eyes.

I remember in 06 I believe, the year JS wrecked at High Point battling with RC. My buddy's father in law came to the race with us. He was not an avid fan and didn't know much. We were talking on the way to the race and I clued him in on what was going on, what to look for ect. He came to me and said this is amazing. These really are the 2 fastest riders to ever ride MX aren't they. I said yes and told him you will probably never see this again in your lifetime. You picked a great race to come to. He has been a fan ever since and watches many of the races and even came to a few more races with us MX and SX. But it is funny because about a year ago he told me out of the blue.. You were right, I still haven't seen anything more amazing than James and Ricky that day at High Point. I chuckled and said nope, you probably never will.

2004 was pretty cool because the level of competition was pretty high with Chad Reed and Kevin Windham healthy all year and RC coming in hurt.

2008 was a cool until Alessis injury as every other rider was mentally beat, Stew was already sitting out Saturday practice and smoking their times on Sunday morning and no one even tired to race him expect for Mike Alessi. Alessi in 08-09 was very fast on that Suzuki.

All three years the guys led well over 95 percent of the laps.

I was at steel city when james finished his perfect season. I think everyone knew it was going to happen, so it wasn't much of a shock. There was a road from the crowd when he finished moto 2, but up until then, it seemed like business as usual.

3 perfect Motocross seasons...02 Carmichael...04 Carmichael...08 Stewart, plus 1 perfect O/A season 05 (Carmichael on a Suzuki) in one decade is pretty badass. Probably never happen like that any time soon, glad I’ve been a fan since 1992 and got to witness it on tv and in person. Troy, High Point, Steel City, and Red Bud were always on my MX travel agenda every summer.
