NBCUniversal plans to axe its cable sports channel NBCSN at the end of 2021 and shift some of its sports programming to the USA Network as part of a “larger transition” within the company, according to an internal memo.

Later this year, USA Network will start carrying or simulcasting certain NBC Sports offerings, including NASCAR races and NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games, the memo from NBC Sports Group chairman Pete Bevacqua says.

Starting in 2022, after NBCSN goes dark, some programming will also be shouldered by Peacock.

The move to draw the curtain on the sports-centric network does not signal a reduction in NBCU’s commitment to carry live sports, according to the memo, but rather is targeted to make the USA Network “an extraordinarily powerful platform” that will give the media giant’s sports programming an audience boost.

However, USA is not poised to become an all-sports network, Variety reports.

Additional details are not yet known about how this transition will impact all of NBCU’s sports portfolio, which includes NASCAR, the NHL, English Premier League soccer and the Olympic Games.

Sounds like Peacock is the future, so we better get comfortable with it.

"We've decided to create yet one more way to charge you an additional $9.99 per month for something you already get with your included fees."

"You know, it really makes sense to do this to the consumers," says NBC president and CEO, Jack MeHoff. "We figured, since Disney, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu and the cable companies are already screwing their customers rotten, we should get part of the action too. Why not get them FDAU while we can?"

I honestly don't know if Peacock is a pay service, but... let's be real, it probably is. I haven't even bothered to look. Am I right?

EDIT: Oh, I was wrong! It's only $4.99 per month. FML.

Don’t forget, with that $4.99 a month, we will take away your ability to pause or fast forward the event.

Get more with Peacock than you did with NBCSN, and you can watch it all on the go

Also seems to be for less money annually

problem is, from what I understand theres no option to start from the beginning if you join halfway through, so you have to wait for the event to end to watch from the start

It doesn't really matter...I've been at this a while and SX/MX is sure to be shuffled off to another network/platform sooner or later. Don't get comfortable.

My thoughts exactly. I pay almost the same amount annually, but get all the extra shows and content - including The Office which we’d just lost on Netflix lol

That was the best thing about the Gold app. I could wake up at a reasonable hour (7-7:30am) and start watching the first Outdoor motos while the second ones were still going live.

I currently have an antenna for local HD channels, Netflix, Disney Channel, Hulu, Peacock, and the MotoGP app. Waaay more content than I could ever watch, and a helluva lot cheaper than cable. Plus, I can turn any of the services on and off whenever I feel like it.

What do you pay for your wifi service in your home?

One thing that drives me batty is the amount of commercials on network TV. It's abusive to the user base to have so many. They deserve to crash land! LOL

Sounds fine to me. I cut cable 10 years ago. Just a bunch of shit that cost $150 a month. Now I've got Peacock and Netflix at kess than $30 per month and have sports, shows and movies. You can keep Leave it to Beaver reruns and qvc

When does Supercross contract end with NBC? I wonder if CBS would be interested at all? I know CBS Sports does Motocross. Or MAVTV?

Gotta have that whether or not I pay for cable.

Couldn’t agree more spend more time sifting through the shit to find something good than actually watching anything.

Exactly. Good shows are nearly nonexistent these days. These streaming platforms are a sea of either rehashed old shows or new crap with bad actors on a shoe string budget. We rarely turn the TV on in our house and if we do it's to listen to XM radio on Dish. I'm pretty close to just shutting it all down. Dish, Netflix etc... all of it.

Funny how so many think they are so special / in the secret know / when it comes to cutting the cord and "saving $$$" when the content providers are dropping channels like NBCSN which used to provide all Supercross rounds live for no xtra charge (if subscribing to a $50 basic cable package w/ , dvr , on-demand , mobile app options for travel / remote viewing)

Surprised the cord cutters even reveal their "secrets" in forums such as these! :-) J/K

That just gave me an idea... they could charge $9.99 and call it "Peacock Pro" or "Peacock Premium." That level would include the DVR functions. Great idea, right?

Yea, but from what I have been told $9.99 doesn’t get you DVR functions either.

I just re-upped with NBCSN over DirecTV even though I paid for Peacock. The flexibility of the DVR and the difference in video quality made it worth the extra $$$. I will keep Peacock for qualifying (SX and MX), for the times when the NBCSN telecast is delayed, and for when Lacrosse or WNBA pre-empts racing. NBC Gold had the same problems as Peacock. Hopefully there will be a DVR solution for 2022.

Same with me, I have NBCSN with my YouTube Tv package, I can not live without DVR! Do you know if NBCSN has DVR FUNCTION for their other sports. Premier league soccer?
