Any ideas for protecting bike from elements/salt when being transported in bed of a truck during winter? Have a friend bringing a bike up from Texas to WI, it's going to be in the bed of a truck during transport. Would prefer it didn't look like the bikes from Lime Gate after the trip if possible...

I've actually been looking for a bike cover that would work while my bike is on a hitch carrier. Doesn't seem to be many/any form fit ones out there that work with tie downs?

Yeah see some covers on amazon that are for storage, don't know if they would just flop around and eventually blow off during transport

Figured a tarp would just shred during transport and possibly cause more damage than good flapping around?

A billion years ago, when bikes were transported on open rail trailers, we could get fitted bike covers, even with brand name and logo.

Usually made of vinyl or pleather, they were water and dirt protectors in case driving in the rain or anything

Maybe consider a snowmobile cover? Designed and made specifically for harsh winter conditions.

Saran wrap it. Form fitting, no huge expense for a one time trip. Load it up then wrap it.

I would be interested in this as well. I have tried to use a normal cover, but it just picks up too much wind and is crazy loud.

Shrink wrap? Some dudes from the south brought some choppers up to Milwaukee for a show a few years ago and they shrink wrapped them up. Worked quite well.

This seems like a pretty good idea.

Lived in WI up until 2 years ago and used this cover in winter. Same material as a snowmobile cover but cut to fit a bike. Transported my bike to and from Austin to Green Bay in the bed of my truck this summer and it worked like a charm. Just added a couple bungie cords and it was good for all 1200 miles.

Not affiliated with them in any way.

Would a grill cover for a larger grill work?

I got this one off Amazon. Straps around pegs and then secures under frame and hooks to rear fender and shrouds. Universal. Never tried it in...
That looks good. Mind putting it on your bike and driving around with it in the back of your truck for a couple days??

Does it go in front of radiators and under engine so it "encloses" the bike? Or is it open and just covers sides of bike?

I have one of these for my bike, don’t know how it would do out in the wind but it does buckle around the bottom of the bike. I’d imagine some creativity with bunch straps or zip ties on a long haul would keep it on and the bike clean.

Yeah, It's raining enough I should try it for you. Yes, it does wrap around front of shroud and elastic over rear fender. It has straps to go under each peg as well as a strap that goes from one side to the other underneath the pegs. It's not form fitting on my 18 YZ450 but I'm not sure if any are. I am the service manager at a dealership and trust me, we get new bikes (street and dirt) in crates and boxes with more road grime than you'd expect. You won't be extending the life or paint job longer by covering it, probably the opposite with it flapping against the bike and leaving a wear mark. Just give her a bath when she gets there, like you would after a 12 hour drive with swampass.

I have transported in winter month's in eastern Canada, in heavy salt conditions. Plug or duct tape in takes for air box and exhaust. Remove chain and then Saran Wrap the bike once loaded, including fork legs, and radiators. If you can get the heavy wrap movers use (ie: U haul) that is even better. As soon as you get the bike to destination wash it completely, with regular garden hose (not pressure washer) has worked for me with no damage for years.

My first thought as well. Like the way boxes get wrapped on a palette.
Cheap and effective.
