Herman, Nebraska in 78' or 79'. I don't remember what year exactly. I was 6 or 7 years old. I remember the announcer talking about the all new Bell Moto Star. Doug was on a KX.
Lots of venders that had cool prism stickers.

are you talking about the summercross at the LA coliesium? McGrath was there but was crashed on the last lap to have Tim ferry win. That was in '98 or '99 I think but I could be wrong. Its before The wheelie king past away in 2000.

My parents took myself and my moto buddy Trea all the way to the '87 des Nations at Unadilla. Doug was scheduled to wheelie the entire track at some point in the day, but as some probably remember, it was a terrible mud bath.

Nonetheless he still went out and successfully wheelied the entire track, which was astounding given the conditions.

My dad remembers seeing him at races back in the 70s / early 80s - he said he was always on one wheel any time he saw him around the pits.

It wasn't? Well, lets see.. there was McGrath, on a Chaparral Yamaha... with his teammate, pretty sure it was Tim Ferry, who won the race when Jeremy crashed in the whoops.

There were no fourstrokes, or metal ramps, and hardly any turnout either, which was kinda sad for Jeremy.

They did run the peristyle though, that was the BFD about this stupid race that hardly anyone went to, cause my buddy, who worked for Dirtrider magazine at the time, raced the amateur races the next day, so he could "run the peristyle".

I can't remember much more about it right now, but, it was Jeremy's race, and someone DID attempt to wheelie around the track with the name DOUG.

Your pal Chris

Sir, you need to calm down. Goosfraba........
The mistake was kind of on your part. Just saying.

I don't think I ever saw Doug ride, but my dad did. He said it was one of the coolest things he's ever seen, and this is coming from someone who's riden wheelies for city blocks at a time. He was one person I also wanted to see ride, but I'll have to stick to youtube.

Not 77, that's an 80 or 81 KX, in fact there wasn't a 77 KX.

I was lucky enough to see Doug several times, the most memorable was at Washougal. He wheelied the whole track, dragging the rear fender all the way down the hills.I used to think I was pretty good at wheelies,I could do full circles, and go for a few miles on the back wheel, the first time I saw Doug I realized I wasnt even good enough to be a pimple on his ass...

Know we saw him at one of the Hangtowns and/or SoCal SXs before he left us.

Know for sure one or more of the SXs and we were thinking how peaked some of the jumps were and how he'd make it.....he did.

Wasn't he on WWoS before? Seemed like it.

First time I ever saw him perform was at the 1978 Sears Point Trans AMA and then after that, several other times over the years in various places.

Wow Chris... you are getting dissed on a few threads... maybe you should think before posting? This internet thing is great for checking what you say before you hit submit.

And, smart guy, I think most people on the board would agree that "McGrath's one off supercross" that you referenced would have been his one off invitational in 2006... Not a supercross he ran in 98 or 99... Just saying...

But hey, I like ya so keep posting!
