I’m hearing a lot about the benefits of a new intake scoop on the yzf, how are your personal experiences with them? I like the low profile of the stock one on my 2020 yz250f but always enjoy more power. I love the looks of carbon too but some of them are priced way too high IMO. I’ve been leaning towards the lightspeed one but have been hesitant to pull the trigger.

2021 model got holes on back of cover. I got drilled holes on my 2020 model and they are pretty much same.
I cant see much more improvement buying bigger carbon cover.

Drill holes in the plastic cover instead and put the money you saved in doing that towards buying the Twin Air Poweflow kit.

The Twin Air filters fit the No Toil kit also. I have the No Toil and my friend has the Twin Air and we compared them side by side and other than the bling factor (that you can't see), they work the same. I used the Cycra cover to give some more air space over the filter also.

I just got a 2021 250 YZF and my first mods will be the DT1 powerflow set up (similar to twinair but even better) and Nihilo carbon airbox used by the Club Mx team !

I will also add an FMF exhaust and a Vortex ECU, so this bike should be on fire when all the mods will be on !

Yeah I run the no toil kit on my 450, I’m happy with it. I run either their filters, or the last gen stock replacement twin air filters. Fits perfect, no issues.

There is absolutely no way I could ever justify $300, carbon and badass or not. I don't understand it.
Can you post a pic of how you did yours? I think I am just going to modify the stock one. If I mess up then it's a good excuse to get a fancy one lol

I'm using the Cycra intake cover which is slightly taller and allows for more space between cover and filter. Also using a Twin Air Power Flow kit which uses a dome shaped filter so the extra height and air volume inside is nice.

Take a 1 1/8 hole saw and drill in the front as shown. This is what the Star team does except they cut a square hole which is harder to do neatly. You can also drill 4 or 5, 3/8 to 1/2 inch holes on the back of cover just above where it clips on. Similar to the 21 cover.. (I marked mine but haven't drilled yet as I'm not sure they are needed) You can add screen material if you wish both places you drill but it's not necessary IMO.

Throttle response is definitely improved and that's why so many aftermarket companies redesign the cover. Air Filter doesn't seem to get any dirtier than stock setup although I would probably cover the front hole for rainy or super sloppy conditions. Give it a try it's cheap and effective!

Another difference between the Twin Air and No Toil kit is Twin air is a billet aluminum cage, and the NoToil is plastic like the stock one.

Honestly I doubt that will be a big deal. When a bike flames out and shoots a flame back into the airbox I highly doubt it’ll have enough heat to melt the cage unless the filter catches fire. And the no toil uses a flame resistant filter just like the twin air. Thoughts?

Why are people drilling out the back after drilling out the front? Catching air in the front, only for it to flow out the back

I’m wondering if having it “pass through” is providing as much air as the motor needs but also allows debris to pass through too? Sounds like filters are staying just as clean on most tracks. I do filters every ride anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️

U think that air is not going into motor? Motor is just airpump that sucks air in. Im sure it doesnt just flow from front holes and goes out from back when motor is running.

I think a lot of people just think of it in terms of airflow in and through the air box but a big portion of the gained performance is just available air volume in the airbox(bigger higher cover) which means the air is there and available for better throttle response, and also means the amount flowing into it is slightly less important using the volume as a buffer

I have always used a drill bit like this. It helps make a super clean hole even with the graphic installed because the next step acts as a clean chamfer.
