You can always buy them not Pre oiled

I don't seem to have an issue running the twin airs. I also use the pc racing pro seal gasket which seems to help seal better at the rim. My wife has the new kx250 which takes the same filter but I swear that Air box is twice as small. It feels like I am going to rip the filter in half everytime I try and change it.

I really like the bike overall but having had 5 different KTMs since 2015, I think they just have the air filter R&R perfected compared to what Kawasaki is offering on this bike.

Im a No Toil lifer as well. Its not necessarily a problem, just something that always makes me second guess my filter installation.

Ok all you bench mechanics! I have a 2019 Kx 450. Just did the top end, everything looked great...except for the intake cam. I use Amsoil, change every 3hrs and use twin air filters with No Toil oil. Bike has 60 hours on it. From what I have been told, could be from dirt getting into the intake side. Some say No toil stuff is junk. IDK if im a big fan of it anyways but. Thought id see if anyone has seen/or had the same issue. The cam is not terrible, but you could feel some imperfections with your finger. Ordered a new one, Exhaust side looked great. What you all got for me?

Just did my top end and it looked perfect. Air filter will not cause that issue, that it's from lack of lubrication. Ive seen it bad enough on some customers bikes that you couldn't separate the cam from the cam cap (pinched oring on oil filter cover, and oil filter in backwards). I would sicke check the screen on the lh side of the bike and make sure it's clean, and definatly clean out the oil passages in the head thoroughly with compressed air in case there's anything restricting flow.

Oil problem. Has nothing to do with the intake/air filter.

Check your oil pressure. There is a filter between the cases i was told by a mechanic that gets clogged if you use alot of clutch or a fiber plate gets destroyed that causes oil starvation. I did the topend on My 19 at 80 hours and it looked perfect. If the oil pressure is fine i probably just smooth the camshafts out with a scotch brite and just ride with it👍

Hard to tell where the damage is in that picture. Is it bearing or the lobes?

I do use a lot of clutch so that would make sense. I’m pulling the screen tonight. Thanks man. Much appreciated.

I broke a few clutch plates last year. All the debris clogged the inside screen, but I didn’t know it. Then the right main bearing went out. When I split the cases it was completely plugged.

Is the location of the oil screen in the same place (under the flywheel on ignition cover side) as previous versions of the kx450? When you clean yours could you post a picture of the location. I don't have a service manual for my 2019 and the owners manual doesn't show the oil screen.

Problem is that you need to split the cases to check that filter, its the One the oil go thru on its way to the head the One at the shifter is from the head down to the cases. Thats why i think its a Good idea to checkbthe oil pressure first, i was told it shall be 4-5 bar

Ran into a problem with finding a good location for my hour meter after installing Renthal Fatbar36's. Which, by the way, have been a great improvement, I'll never go back to Twinwalls!

That being said, I previously had my Works Connection hour meter mounted on the top bolt for the front numberplate when I was running Twinwalls.

But I ran into an issue when switching to the Fatbar 36's, with the crossbar pad coming into contact wit hour meter and putting a good amount of pressure on the meter.

No problem, I'll just mount it on the upper tank bolt. Nope...the gas cap comes into contact with it when unscrewing/screwing it on and off.

Figured I'd just order a couple hour meter brackets with more offset, so it would clear the gas cap, the first one arrived on Friday and the hole pattern was well off and it won't work. The second one arrives today, but I noticed another problem I don't care for. When fueling the bike yesterday, I realized it's very easy to splash fuel on the hour meter when mounted on the upper tank bolt. I just don't care for that.

I also tried to mounted it on the right hand side of the head tube, on the bracket where the couplers are, but it doesn't clear the fork tube when you turn the bars to the right.

I know some people use double side tape and stick it on the frame, but I'm more trusting of nuts and bolts.

The only other thought I had was drilling and taping the frame and mounting it around the radiator area on the frame rail, but I just can see drilling into a frame to mount a damn hour meter! Seems like a bad move.

Anyone have a solution for this?!

Thank you!

Just double stick tape it to the frame spar in a spot where the forks won't crush it. Use the good thick 3M outdoor stuff and it won't come off.

The work’s connection hour meter comes with double sided tape if you kept it. I have mine on the upper frame spar on the left side of the bike. If you have xtrigs the forks turn even farther so you have to tuck it back slightly more.

I used self tapping screw and put it on top of airbox. My brother in las has same bike he runs his on the tank bolt. You just have to change the grommet I believe but his works fine on tank bolt with hour meter mount. Here is photo of mine

Any offroad racers riding their KXs? I have a 2021 KX450XC.

I race Enduros and the occasional Hare Scramble. 40+A, Not super fast but maybe slightly above average A rider.

My question is, My race this past sunday had a lot of open field sections and being it was a race, I held that thing tapped in 5th in those fields. This is something I would never do on my two strokes that I have been riding for 22 years now.

Should I be concerned with anything or will this bike handle that kid of occasional "abuse". I did find myself using the clutch far more than I ever did on my 250XC to keep it hooked up and driving straight. It's a handful in the tight trees and this race had a huge number of logs to cross that were big, small, straight, angled, on the ground, off the ground, etc.. That was a workout!!

I plan to drop the oil tonight into a clean pan and inspect it and to clean the scavenge screen before new oil and filter is installed.

How’s the suspension on the XC?

Just picked up a 21 450 a few weeks ago .Rear brake is super touchy.

Anyone have the part # for the 21 kx250 brake hanger and rotor ?

Also, I can't find it again but did someone say their 450 burns a bit of oil on start up ? I get a few puffs of black smoke at start up..

I plan to drop the oil tonight into a clean pan and inspect it and to clean the scavenge screen before new oil and filter is installed.

How’s the suspension on the XC?
The chassis and suspension is the reason I am keeping the bike.

I am 220lbs with no gear on and am riding the suspension stock with minor clicker changes and it's working pretty well.. It's a little divey in front under hard braking but in order to get the good small bump compliance I like, I am going to have to live with that for now. The shock feels really good over chop and chatter but this past weekend over the hundreds of logs and rocks the club was subjecting us to in their enduro, I was getting beat up and kicked around a little.

I was trying to get over to my guy Corey at ProTune and ride and do some testing and suspension changes. I don't anticipate having to do a whole lot though.

The full blown moto engine and transmission isn't ideal in the tight woods but I am making it work right now. I think if I could buy the tuner and change the ECU tuning a little bit to mimic "launch mode" it would be good. I rode a couple sections that were super tight in launch mode and it really worked well. I just had to force myself to NOT shift to third unless it was a really fast spot.

Thank you!
Works Connection sells an aluminum hour meter mount that screws into the front fuel tank mount. That’s what I use.

In my post I talk about how I used the WC bracket and mounted it to the upper tank bolt, but it comes into contact with the gas cap when unscrewing/screwing it on and off.

Unless WC has a bracket with more offset? The bracket I have, that came with my hour meter, has zero offset, the hour meter is centered on the mounting bolt.

It does touch the gas cap, but I just spin the cap counter clockwise a bit and it slides right under the bracket.
