Severe Compression Fracture

Nearly 3 months ago I had a big get off resulting in 7 compression fractures t5-11. Then 2 herniated disc in my lower lumbar. The first 2 weeks were so miserable it’s all a blur now. Then life became tolerable at times. I have been on complete bed rest the entire time. Only leaving the house to go to the doctor. Now that I’m just about to the 3 month mark my pain has tripled over the last few days. So much so it’s making me sick multiple times a day. I can’t hardly eat. I never sleep. It feels like my spine is disconnected in the middle. I’m trying to get back into the doctor now but it’s a pain with corona and now losing my insurance since I couldn’t work. Has anyone else gone through this and can give me some insight please. Mentally up to this point I have held up well. But it’s hard to stay positive when you can’t sleep or eat.

I compressed my T8 and T9 and they put me in a steel brace for four months. I wasn't allowed to sit down except for driving and going to the bathroom. The initial few months, like you're in, weren't too bad as I was on all kinds of pain killers. It was after the brace came off that the real pain kicked in. Especially after the prescriptions ended. I know it's probably not what you want to hear but you have to dig deep into yourself and mentally shut down the pain if at all possible. That's what I did and I just accepted that my back hurt and that I had to learn to live with it. You're young and it'll heal up but it really takes a long time. Nothing like breaking an arm or leg. Hang in there and don't quit.

Fractured my L3 horizontal millimeters from complete and broke a large chunk off that was lodged in my nerve that had to be removed. Also burst 2 discs and bulged 2. I have had surgeries before where the doctors warned me that I would be in the worst pain a human can feel when I wake after shattering feet and wow, I have woken up from surgery and passed out from the pain almost instantly and I am known to handle some pain. But that broken back was like someone had a blowtorch on my hip. I swore my femor was shattered but it was fine but the crushed nerves in my back were tricking me into thinking my leg was shattered. It was a nightmare. The doctor asked if I was able to walk after crash and I said no feeling for a few minutes and then it came back and I was helped up and got back to pits and collapsed. Doctor said I shouldn't of been able to even stand. I had an instant choice of pain meds forever or surgery and I did surgery and hate pain meds and the second I woke from surgery I fealt I could of lined up at the gates for race day and great ever since after a few months healing. But what an awful experience. Nothing can hurt me now. I've cased the giant triple at FTT a few times since and fine. I hope you feel better. It was hell before the surgery, like torture x10. Go get a microdisectomy first right now. Its minimum invasive and will relieve your pain. If not it won't hurt and will definitely help some at the least. Feel better.

T4 & T5 week in hospital and 6 months in a brace. Started riding while still in the brace and it crewed up riding in the Hunched over attack position for many many years.

Hey fastpat, it's not normal for pain to increase suddenly like that, especially after having some improvement from what it seemed. In combination with the trouble sleeping, not eating, and nausea/vomiting, I'd encourage you to go and get checked on ASAP. If you have a fever, go sooner. If you've been taking meds like oxycodone, etc. you could also be experiencing some step down from that. Go to the doctor, call the office, ask for a telehealth visit, something but get it checked. Hope you get some answers.

I broke my back in 96, some bone was lodged in my nerves and blown disks. I tried every therapy and injection, there was. In the 90,s back surgery was experimental. 10-2-02 I finally had surgery. The days of 4 hrs trying to get out of bed, where over. The last few yrs my back will go out tho. 1 time my back just started turning, belly button pointed at my right hip, I was yelling no, no. Every day you have to do your back exercises, takes yrs to figure out what works. Loose all your strength in your legs and arms, even hard to breath. It,s brutal, you think you,ll never be out of pain. You just keep working on it, and then 1 day your all good again. I always keep my weight down, very important. Cold damp weather is terrible on your back, try and keep it warm at all times. Good Luck

There is sunshine in your future, although it definitely does not seem that way atm..... get checked asap, like anywhere you can, because of your sudden increase in pain.... enter beast mode for a few months, cause that's what it is gonna take.... many of the guys here have been through this, and they are all still here today.... tough road, but seriously, good times lie ahead... plus you'll have one hell of a story to tell afterwards....

I have the same injury to my T5 and T6 that showed up 11 months ago. I have had back surgery to bring the fractures back into the correct positions and size nd glued in place from the inside out about 6 months ago. The pain just will not go away, I am on 3 different high dose pain killers , an anti inflamitory, mussel relaxers and an anti depresent and still the pain will not give me any relief. This is going to be a long haul as the doctor has stated the pain may not go away.
So I feel your pain and understand what you are going through. I feel you must be much younger than I and that is on your side to have a full recovery. I wish you good luck in this journey.

Hang in there bro. I have had to work really hard to stay positive. I understand the high power painkillers I try not to take them but sometimes you just have to.

Compressed t4 and t5 .. thanks to my first generation Leatt. Had surgery to repair and went home the next day. A day later I was back with a major headache and partial blindness because the doctor cut into my spinal cord and my spinal fluid started leaking out. Spent the next month in the hospital with 5 more surgeries and finally before getting released. Had a meeting with a lawyer about suing the doctor but apparently the laws in Texas are very doctor friendly and there was almost no chance on collecting. If you ever listen to the podcast Doctor Death .. it was at the same hospital during the same time.

Hang in there. Broke my back four times. T5-7 fractured and out back together, L5 fracture, T10-12 compression fracture and the last which was the worse L1-2 with the L1 being a burst fracture into the spinal column. The first night home without a hospital bed I thought I was dying. Got my insurance to get me a hospital bed at home to get the right angle to sleep made a major difference. I was in a brace for 3 1/2 months. When they removed the brace it hurt worse because I had to regain all the muscle that I lost. It’s tough but just try and remember it will be better soon
