Interesting. This is all hypothetical, with no basis in fact, but: JS befriends MA. He wants Mike to win the outdoors because RV was getting too much press, hype, fans, and moto wins. JS has Mike's number. But he doesn't have RV's number. In other words he has no fear of Mike and knows if Mike wins the outdoors he can still take him. RV,on the other hand, with a head full of steam after winning the outdoors would have come into to SX next year a blazin'. Oh,well. It's a moot point either way now. Heal up RV. And may the best MX'er win the outdoor championship.Wink CR now has a great chance at getting his first AMA Outdoor title.
Good post... I was thinking similar thought after the Speed podium interview.

Since when is your main competition your best buddy? WTF? Did Mikey forget who he's going to be facing next year in SX?

Some pretty silly bullshit right there... John and Kate all the way!

I don't think that the 800/7 conversations are going to bother 22 as much as the whoops at Freestone are going to bother 800 (and everyone else, for that matter). Those little buggers swallow small children - anyone have a good photo of the dirty dozen?

In 4 or 5 more races Reed will be leading the points chase I think. He is getting faster and faster and the 1st two races were not even close to his favorite tracks.

Reed is definately a threat. He was turning out the fastest lap times in the first race deep into the moto. His start killed him so he had to come from waaaay back. The track became 1 line through many sections & made passing very difficult Lots of high speed stuff as well so you had to ride hard. He was very hard on himself after the race for blowing the start. He looked good on the bike & can only get better IMO. He was absolutely launching off of the jump at the top of the first long uphill & making up lots of time. This could very well turn out to be a battle between Suzuki teammates for the title. With Dungy doing well in the 250 class, Decoster must be very happy with his teams' prospects.

Once again, Reed will soon start wining moto's and people will wish he'd not raced the outdoors this year.

Believe it.

Tom.

Yep. Same thing at GH. Chad's SX technique seems to allow him to launch a lot farther off the jumps. You can easily see him out-jumping everyone else and making up time at both rounds. I just don't see either Grant or Alessi being able to hold him back if they all get a good start.

Mikey is just making a fool of himself trying to play up this new best friend Stewie crap. It really smells more of something LB would come up with rather than JS, but who knows. And I'm not sure you would want to give Reed even more motivation to beat you. MA may well soon regret doing it.

Reed can't beat Alessi. True Story!!! He is 0-4 with three of them being solid ass beatings. As far as the Stewart Alessi thing goes who cares. Regardless of that friendship Reed is going to start being a distraction come mid season because for the first time in his career is not going to be about him.

In a few more races if things stay the same; it will be bugging him. At the moment I don't think so.

I am most pleased that so far both races have been exciting down to the last lap, not complete runaways as before where the only races are for 3rd on back.. I hope that continues!

Chad's fast and Mikey knows his lead isn't comfortable by any means. We're two races in and Mike's got what 16 points? Well the bad thing about outdoors is, you can loose points just as fast as you make them up. 1-1 vs. 2-2 will get you 6 points per round. Three rounds is all Chad needs to get a two point lead as we stand. It's a long season and things can change in a split second. Ask Ryan Villopoto.

This kind of post is stupid. 'can't beat Alessi" If you change it to "hasn't beaten Alessi, outdoors in 2009" , then it's a True Story!!! But Reed has already beaten Alessi outdoors.

So many people just insist on pretending they know the future, unable to deal with the unknown. If Reed beats Alessi, what will you say. I can imagine your response to this, " I won't say anything cuz Reed can't beat Alessi. True Story!!! The remaining 20 motos will be just like the first 4" .

I doubt that Mike thanking James bugs Chad very much.

I'm sure that never having won an overall in the outdoor big-boy class bugs Reed to no end though.
6/1/2009 8:23am
Chadd is having tons of fun this year because the pressure to win a title isn't there the same way it was indoors. Nobody expects him to win it all. Nobody even expected him to race outdoors. I think that takes off most the pressure and allows him to race, get third or whatever, and smile big. He'll get a moto win soon enough.
I love his attitude so far this summer.

Didn't Alessi get in a shouting match with Stewart in the staging area last year at Red Bud because Mikey did not like the way James passed him in moto1?

Got himself all worked up and then torpedoed himself trying to pass Stewart on the ski jump at the start of moto2.

Now they are buddies? Doubt it. Its all about mind games between these guys.

when Alessi was talking on the podium.. it came off as awkward to me. almost like he was desperate for stewarts friendship. just race Mike... there's no magic phone call that makes you win races. Good job btw.

I doubt it. Reed had about 2 weeks maybe to prepare for the Nationals and zero baseline with the RMZ to start with. He's only going to get stronger and the fact he's this close is a statement about how strong a rider he is. Reed is a smart competitor and it only takes MA to crash out of one race... poof no more points lead.

At the end of the year Reed will still be top dog at Suzuki, Alessi will be headed for a new ride somewhere else and with any luck we will have enjoyed one of the most exciting National Series ever.

I think Chad respects Mikey's speed outdoors and is happy with his own speed over the whole moto, Chad will get better and Mike is already at his best. Build's up to a good round 3. Don't think Chads worried about the JS/MA relationship at all.
