Star bikes

Just rewatching Wednesdays race and it is startling how much faster those Star Yamahas are than everyone else at elevation. If Honda doesn't find something soon I don't think Chase stands a chance. He can be just as good or even a little better than Shane and still lose.

On the other coast I don't think there is any way Forkner can run down two Star bikes.
Poll

Will the Star Yamahas sweep the 250 class?

Dylon looked pretty unbeatable no matter what last we saw, I could see Sexton beat McElrath at some point, though. Tough to say, but I think this break favored Shane a lot. He would always come out hot and slowly fade as the series continued. This way he got essentially two fresh starts. Chase seems so pissed and determined though, if he wanted to win he could still win even if the Star bike is better at elevation.

I think this will be the championship to watch moving forward, though. 450 seems to be leaning heavily towards Eli, 250 West seems to be leaning heavily towards Dylan.. 250 east is tied in points with 2 normal races and 1 showdown race to go. If I had to bet on either Shane or Chase, I'd just flip a coin at this point because either of them could take it home, IMO.

EDIT: It does make me shake my head a bit at Sexton saying he's still riding and training a lot between races. That same mentality ruined his outdoor season last year after overheating at WW and continuing his same training regimen the following Monday.

Hahahahahaha. Not a snowballs chance in hell. He’s a great rider but come on let’s be real here.

Star went from having one competitive rider to having their whole team upfront when the engine got updated.

As much as I think Sexton is a better rider, unless McElrath makes some mistakes I think the engine package is going to bring home the title.

On who is the better rider - I'd call it a tie. What is the tiebreaker? Having the fastest bike out there, right?

I've never seen where Shane said he left KTM for Yamaha Because of the power difference, but you know that has to be a big part of it - or maybe the entire reason.

You have to figure ever time a 250 rider is passed by a guy on one of these Yamahas, they've got to be extra pissed - thinking 'is that guy better than me, or is just the power of the YZ-F?"

As the old saying goes - IF you can't beat then, Join Them!

I'm a McElrath fan, & I applaud the guy for seeing the opportunity and taking the chance.

Starts are going to be very important, especially at the last round. Chase has his work cut out for him.

If he was on a JGR Suzuki he would step on a murder hornet and his foot would be too swollen to ride.

Or a Bugs Bunny anvil would fall on his head.

If he would ride a Suzuki that Suzuki would be a murder hornet, killing all the competition ...

Just joking and trolling on this, the star bikes are amazing and I wonder what there would happen if Star would run a 450 bike.

Hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but the Star 450 thing is happening. Lots of hints have been thrown out lately on various media.

Dunno if true but if I'm correctly informed they do all the developing in house so they need to have some very talented and capable people at their roster. Something we're talking to little about.

Even Geerts in mx2 is using a star engine in a class with with full on works bikes and no production rules. Shows you just how good those engines must be.

I dunno if that is true but I know for a fact that the Rinaldi MX2 tuned bikes suck... Go back to the time where Yamaha had two backed MX2 teams in the MXGP series: Standing Construct (doing their own bikes) and KEMEA (Bikes done by Rinaldi). The results spoke for themselves.

The last race didn't help for sure. Being bruised for next race on sunday either.

But I think what favors McElrath the most right now is the soil. The day conditions looks super hard pack, dry, slipery, quite like the typical West coast rounds in houston or vegas. The east coast championship was not supposed to be like that where it is usually much softer and more rutty.

McElrath I think performs better in the current conditions, while Sexton is also training on the east coast on softer dirt. They may go at the same speed the next races but I think McElrath will be able to click another gear if he has to go all in due to that confort level. But anyway, still lots of racing left, starts will be key during this crunch time.

You realize Shane grew up on the east coast, and has only spent a handful of years in california on "west coast hardpack?" Shane is a grinder and has elevated his technique to be good everywhere. His throttle control, body position and seriousness about fitness is all contributing to it finally coming together for him. He was always close but had some tough breaks, his crash before the 2016 season definitely set him back and the one later in the year at Soutwick did too. Then he got tangled with Chris Aldridge when chris crashed and that set him back again. Hes is now 100% healthy, on a good bike and even this cahmpionship would have been way closer in points if he hadn't gotten cleaned out by sketchmaster Jordon at daytona! He is an incredible sand rider too.

Forkner's not going to win.
Sexton maybe, he's very clean and has tough mentality.

I didn't notice it but what I saw was he is particularly fast on hard pack. Probably a rounded rider for sure but a bit like Davalos (sorry if you don't like the comparison, I am just looking at speed on soft vs hard pack), I actually could feel he could hang out with let us Tomac, Anderson, Roczen, Webb, on really slick hard pack. Maybe I am totally wrong and have to rewatch, I did not follow that closely. On softer stuff, I think and hope to be proven wrong this summer outdoors, the bike will for sure not hold him up this time. (I feel TLD/Rockstar is great at developing the riders but are not there too win, probably too costly to change engines each moto for instance unless they really have a shot on the championship. It is quite a real problem in the "development class", 20 years ago you could holeshot a GP or an outdoor as a real fast privateer. I am not in favor to have only 1 championship like in 450 but some limits should be set - i.e. 1 race engine for the 250 sx season otherwise 10 points penalty per change)

It's freaking gross how those bikes shoot out of the gate. I thought the short start would equalize the horsepower. Going to go down to the wire on the East.

What the heck is in those engines? Will they sell them to anyone? Have they ever been protested for a tear down?

Do we want parity? Should there be a claiming rule?

I’m not a 100% sure. However you can buy a Star bike that was a practice bike for 10k. It comes with A kit, clamps, bars, spec exhaust, mapping detuned a hair, good transmission. My buddy got one and when we rode it I was surprised my yz250f had more bottom but as soon as the mid and top kicked in, it was ridiculous. I can only imagine the full tilt engine package.
