Serious question about AMA SX championship, "an FIM World Championship"

First of all, i am super stoked the championship is back like most of you, no doubt. BUT... As it is, as stated anywhere officialy, "an FIM World championship", how come is it possible to run it without fronteers being open ? Joan Cros, for example, is stuck in Spain and can't do antything about it. I understand nobody cares about a Spanish privateer who doesn't even make mains, but still, where is the equity ? Shoudn't it be the FIM role ? Ken Roczen is German, what if he went in his birth country and not be able to come back ? Isn't this a grey area ?

2 sanctioning bodies for 1 series, what could go wrong?

So, are you proposing that they do not run the 'world championship' until all of the borders are open or what are you getting at? Does this really put a blemish on the integrity of the championship for you?

Are you thinking the FIM is going to barge into an office and tell the president of this (or multiple) countries "hey...we've got a supercross series to finish and virus schmirus we need to ensure an equal chance to everyone!"

It's a reasonable point to think that something called a world championship should be accessible to residents of more than one country. Given where the series is at, as long as everyone who is still in the title hunt mathematically gets to race, I think we're good.

This whole thing about getting racing going again is all about compromises, the schedule is condensed to a few weeks, all in the same place, no fans, limits on team sizes, and far more. All compromises in order to get the serious going again, this way teams get paid from sponsors, teams pay crews, riders make money, the series gets TV exposure, and more. This is obviously a very short list but just shows a lot of compromises have had to be made to make this work at all.

So yes not being able to get all foreign riders back is also a compromise, probably was discussed and decided that holding up the series for 1 or 2 people does not outweigh the benefit getting back to racing now.

I think they worked it out amongst themselves!

1 does all the work
1 makes all the money!

What happened with the Russian 250 rider a couple of years ago that was barred from leaving the country for a couple of years? They didn’t consider stopping the GPs because of that.

That’s only there for advertising purposes. Nobody cares if it’s a part of the FIM, in fact I think the majority would be in favor of not being run under their name or horrible judgement/involvement.

I believe that was Aleksandr Tonkov, had some sort of passport screw up and could not leave Russia. Not sure how getting the wrong stamp on your passport leaves you stuck in Russia for years, but nobody ever said being a Russian was going to be easy. Pretty much seems to have ended a promising career from what I gathered.

Yeah he was promising. I thinkt that he actually was mounting a comeback about a year ago and crashed really hard that resulted in a broken back. He didn't get paralyzed so he got lucky, the crash was gnarly!

That was a gnarly crash. The guy at the side of the track, not paying attention (maybe looking at his phone?) was about 18 inches away from death.

With everything that's going on in the world, this is what you're worried about?

Life’s not fair. Then you die. Who cares if some c practice dude can’t make it for his c practice round. What if’s are good for nothing. I want to see some racing. Don’t care about the semantics of what it’s called.

Such a dumb thing to say... Good thing is that cliché can work for EVERYTHING. Well done, you're officially the King of Vitards.
