We use spook as not normal. He's definitely not being secretive.

I had a great day as a kid working at a friends farm.... couple fields of slashed lucern fields drifting 4 wheelers flat chat across the paddock. That thing is a fucking rocket ship... still a quad though, I guess haha.

You definitely would not want to use that word in an urban area right now. You might not get an opurtunity to explain different cultural slang meanings of the word.
