If everyone has a device like this it still comes down to a racer with developed starting technique.

I understand the idea behind the device and they do what they are supposed to do however IMO they are another bling item that advantage no one at our level of racing.

You’re absolutely kidding yourself if you don’t think a start device helps at all levels of racing. It’s literally like cheating when you put one on, and I felt like the biggest idiot for waiting as long as I did to get one.
Yep. Honestly the biggest advantage for me is it allows me to touch both toes and not use starting blocks lol.

Start Devices.....

Making fat old MFs shut off sooner before the first turn since 2001.

Been waiting impatiently for a long time. Got mine yesterday, went to do the install today and.... Doesn’t fit cone valves... bummer. It looks as though a longer bolt will give it enough reach to make it around the fork tube, but with what’s in the packaging it’s a no go. The fit and finish seem to be great though!

Weird. When it was first introduced it was on Wilson’s Cone Valves and I’ve been led to believe it’s supposed to work with all forks. I need two of these and I need them to work with Cone Valves.

I love pulling holeshots without using a start device, start map, or roasting a fresh rear tire on a concrete pad. Throttle control and technique is all you really need.

You keen to ship overseas, to New Zealand. Can pay via Pay Pal. Checked the ones on eBay and shipping is over the top.

You’re better off going with eBay. Shipping would be cheaper through a big vendor with an account than a local shop like me.

$143 on eBay with free shipping. Not bad.... definitely want one but no need for one right now since there’s no races! Blush

I’ve tried calling PT (and of course, it says to email) and emailing them about Cone Valve compatibility and can’t get them to reply.

That sucks, Ive emailed them so many damn times about my ball bearing throttle tube and they are always very good about customer service. I would imagine they are still open right now but have a very limited staff.

Mine should be here by Friday and I’ll test on CVs. If not, I’ll look to source a longer bolt.

We just had the inventor of it in studio on the MotoXpod Show. He has been a life long friend of mine.

So the device itself fits 48mm cone valve forks...

Just the bolt is too short:

If anyone has received contact back from Pro taper and can ask for the thread and diameter we can easy source a new bolt. Maybe we get some nice looking ti bolts for it.

A lot of people are still furloughed so maybe that's why you aren't hearing back.

The best part us weekend warriors can get for better starts is a gate to practice on, launch devices and “launch mode” are for chicks and dudes with spoke skins

I suspect Joe will have an answer for us soon, as it looks like PT sent him a DM regarding this on IG.

Hi,
The fork ring was designed with flex to mount on a variety of common fork diameters. However, your forks look nearly the size of the tree trunk forks that the factory team runs. LOL

The bolt size is an M4 x .7 x 30mm long. By looking at the pic, a 40mm long should make the reach.

With those massive forks, the fitment guide for receiver and screw combo for your bike would not apply.

I would start with "receiver A" and the shortest screws to assemble to the fork ring.

The end result is to have the receiver nearly touching the inside of the fork guard, regardless of what spacer, receiver, and screw combo is used.

Everything has to be precisely mounted and adjusted for smooth operation.

Hope this helps fellas

Been waiting to try this thing out for over a year now. What online retailers are selling it so far? I saw that ktm-parts.com is selling it, but they aren't allowing any cancels during covid Blink and didn't give an estimated delivery during checkout.

I've had more than one moment on the start that one buddy or another was super late to show up and set my device, and I had to sheepishly ask some other dude to do it for me. Oh the shame Laughing

Dennis Kirk has them on sale, but they're back-ordered. I suspect that's going to be the case pretty much everywhere for a while.

I wound up ordering one off of ebay from H&R Powersports and it showed up in 4 days.

The bad news is, most of my riding friends are doing an unsanctioned outlaw race at one of the coolest tracks in the state, and I'll be installing this thing and a trellis for my wife instead.

Thanks for the info on the bolt. I ordered one and will see if it fits.

I read on Instagram a guy lost his device off the fork tube on the first day riding. He said it was for sure right, but gone in the dirt somewhere now... So sounds like loctite on the bolt is needed and/or some type of safety wire for insurance.
