Back in the day (1978) a classmate of mine from A&P school said he went to HS with Bernie Schreiber.

We took our moto bikes out to an area in La Cresenta where Bernie would practice.

He went straight up a vertical WALL that was surrounded by HUGE jagged boulders! As he wheelied towards me he playfully said "Can Brad Lackey do that?" Smile

He went on the become the ONLY American World Champion.

Total Badass!

Yes,he's a true bad ass on a bike.saw him a time or two.
You know you have National caliber trials riders competing in AZ.
When we get past this pandemic go to a Central AZ trials event, you will be impressed,The AZ club has put on many National events and just a few years ago a world round, saw Toni Bou and company and was completely blown away at what they could do on a bike.
Trials is a lot of fun to ride.moto is my first love but trials made me abetter overall rider.

Yes I rode my ol 87 Hurricane up to a Trials event up in Payson, I’m pretty sure it was a World Championship calendar round.
Those guys are pretty amazing but just like the sport of MX/SX the stuff they do now is off the charts.

The Spaniard Toni Bou is completely insane!

And you are correct on making you an overall better rider--just ask Roger Decoster. Smile
Here is another ol classic photo-can you name the rider?

Is that where Bernie was from? Tujunga/La Cresenta? Or is that just where he rode/practiced?

It is going to be even more crazy what these exceptional riders can do with electric bikes, with lighter weight along with instant and almost unlimited torque.

The envelope will get pushed pretty hard.

Does anyone down here in Tucson ride trials?

I spoke with some folks at a recent AVDRA race here who ride trials and that kind of kindled some interest. I have been surfing used bikes/prices, but would like to find some folks to ride with here.

Yes that is the area he was raised in he went to high school in La Crescenta.

That's a cool link, I never even knew of that Club.

So if you are racing vintage then I'm sure you know Dave Boydstrum (sp).

He restores CZ's to MINT condition--has a regular CZ Factory with all the parts he has obtained over the years.
Takes them up to the Mecham auction in Vegas and does pretty good.
