I got to thinking about this yesterday. I am a big believer that if you do the right things, work hard good things and good results will happen. I thought about commitment, sacrifice and hardship and what that means in MX in the past and today. I started thinking about John Dowd and Barry Carsten how they put together deals and in the case of Carsten lived his Moto dream and ran a business. Then I started thinking about Scott Champion and how different he is from them.
19 years old but he says he had it all and had it all taken away. What happened? Why, if he is asking, in a public forum, for help does he feel exempt from "interviewing" for help? IMO, Champion has some explaining to do. Yes some people were over the top going off on him. Hey he can ignore them they might just be assholes but he is the same Scott Champion who people wanted to impale his head on a stick when he "took out" Michael Leib last year. Scott Champion finished 13th in a moto at Southwick last year and he finished a 29th. (EDITED FOR ACCURACY)
IMO, Champion needs a reality check. Dowd didn't start racing until he was 19 and raced competitively for 20 years. Hell he's still smoking fast. Carsten has supported himself for years and years and if you ask him he's still livin the dream. This is just 2 examples of guys who worked their way through the sport. I'll bet Scott Champion is faster than I ever was or even dreamed I could be. Who cares at this point? Being fast helps but anyone who knows anything about racing for pay can tell you that is only half of what it takes. You are an investment and/or an indulgence for who ever supports you. Cause I'm fast and its my dream isn't enough you got to work for it and you have to provide a return on their investment. I'd just like to know what Scott Champions value proposition is.

Why do you care? Do we ask for validation on everything everyone says around here? It's your opinion and you are entitled to it but unless you provided him with substantial support and financial assistance then it is your business and you should be entitled to that, given the case that should be taken up in private.

Most in interviews say, "well I havent been riding becasue no one is offering support, bla bla bla, but I have some things in the works"
then they come back and get smoked. WTF?
i thought this board had more respect for a privateer. i cant help but think if he had been a regular poster in here, he would have been treated different.
i applaud him for trying to be innovative and round up a program. sounds like he had something put together and it got yanked out at the last minute. times are hard and i dont blame anyone for trying to be creative.
in this day of internet, its hard for someone to come on here and bullshit everyone.
with all the kids who's parents are well off and they ride around with 4 bikes, complete toy hauler and home schooling, i have no problem rooting for a privateer working out the back of a pickup truck.
back in '82, i tried to make it to a national working out the back of a mustang hatch back, just couldnt get a program going.
this reminds me of the time on the motodrive board when the legendary jonny long came in here and did the "i want to race the nationals" routine. everyone embraced him immediately and wanted to help him out. when i asked him what some of his results were, he ignored me and i never heard a peep out of him again. that whole deal makes me chuckle.
anyway, i wish the best for scott and will be rooting for him.

Champion showed up and raced Glen Helen so he was not stealing money from those that gave to his cause. In fact it shows good character. The only thing he has left to do is come on here and give his report and he met all expectations he put out there but I am satisfied just to see he got the oppurtunity.
Good for him he got his chance and to race GH and if he gives his report like he said he would I am sure some guys will give him support again if he asked.
