I bought myself a new 250SX and my misses a new 250sxf.

You’re right.

2nd to 3rd sucks.

Guess what...YOU SUCK.

I had no issue downshifting to 2nd to help me
Slow down, then shift to 3rd in ruts. Bike carried it no problem as long as me as a rider carried momentum.

Point being, take responsibility for being a squirrel.

Move on.

Well im definitely not a squirrel and I've got a buddy who's far from a squirrel. He has 2 250sx 1 practice 1 race. Never dropped....yet. One bike misses shift between 2nd and 3rd quite a bit and one that doesn't. Breaking that motor down next week to see what's up. Be happy yours doesn't.

My ‘19 250sx has 18 hours on it now. Always loved the way it shifted but hit a false neutral between 2-3 for the first time this past weekend. Could have been a fluke but I’ll be keeping my attention on it for sure.

I had a 13 250sx and it had a similar problem. The shift drum is anodized aluminum.

Actually the only thing people say about the transmission sucking on those bikes is the gear ratios. I agree with that too, dropping a tooth in the rear helped. I want to order a 48 and give that a try as well and see how it works out for me.

Is this post to somehow provide evidence that you are bad ass on a dirtbike?

I've heard a lot about the shortcomings on the 2nd to 3rd ratio but I don't have a problem with it. I can scream it in 2nd or lug it a bit in 3rd depending on the situation and still make jumps out of tricky inside lines.

It’s a known issue within a few model & years. The metal on 2nd and 3rd were suspect. Actually on back order for a long time. When you lighten bikes ,there are certain things that are better left alone in the process. KTM tests that fine line often. I think that was your point no? Or were you speaking in terms of Internal ratios? I’m out on that one if so.

I put 100 hrs on a 2018 SX. Ran 13/48 final gearing. Never had an issue.

Not that it's anything but put 180hrs on a 2019 XC last year and so far 30 something hours on another new 2019XC.

Seems fine to me.

The second to third gear ratios are ultimately the reason I sold my 19 250sx. I Must Suck and that's ok! Oh well at least I enjoy sucking on a bike that has a more usable engine/tranny combo for my style. lol

After trying many different gear combos I just couldn't find a setting that I liked. down a few in the rear.. up a few in the rear it didn't matter much. I ended up one smaller in the rear as my best gear setting. The bottom end only engine does not whined out far enough in 2nd gear and I was always trying to shift after the apex of the corner. At the same time 3rd gear wasn't torquey enough to pound into a deep berm and have it pull out. It would bog because 3rd gear is a mile away from 2nd.
The next option for me was to port the engine for topend and overrev to help second gear get me through a corner and onto a straight.
also this problem isn't nearly as noticeable on the mx track as it is out in the desert on the outdoor type tracks I like to burn in.
Glad your enjoying yours though! They are badass bikes.

I meant the ratios, my apologies for not specifying. Shifting ain’t an issue, and I doubt oil makes a huge difference but I love the Honda tranny oil.

No sir, meant it towards people bitching about bikes and not adapting to them. I’m a squirrel too, but know how to make adjustments to bikes characteristics.
