Sprinter van vs enclosed trailer?

I am thinking of staying with the truck. I have owned vans before for work as I have a floor covering business. Here in the northeast winter sucks when you have a van, if I’m on a job and it started snowing or if we kept getting big storms I lost a lot of money not being able to work or nervous as hell that I would get stuck on the way home. I went truck, trailer 20 yrs ago and it’s gone well. I like not having to smell whatever I’m carrying, also only one passenger in a van..that is too limited with kids..I think I’m getting a 20 tundra 8 ft bed, found one under 35 k. The van isn’t a good value for me..2 wheel drive..2 seats..not fun to drive..can’t go thru a car wash with the high tops. My mind may change if I was making it a Moto van but my stuff needs to haul a lot of different things

just because you're married with children and can't do everything that you want to doesn't make it wrong for other people to have cool stuff... you make yourself sound like a hater.. maybe some people don't want a flat bed trailer and 4x4 truck? not sure why you would care what other people decide what is good for themselves... Unsure

Oh, and just wondering, did you have the balls to go up to that little moto racer girl’s dad and say anything to him about his awesome van, and how he shouldn’t have it, or did you just hate from afar?

My sons and I ride together most times. Found an 06 HT Sprinter for less than$ 7500. Set it up with a fold out couch bed and partition wall. Get 21 mpg on the rev limiter and hauls all of our moto gear and bikes no problem. Fits under drive thrus and love the height. I tow a trailer at work and don't want to be limited in speed. Used regular vans for years and really like the added head room. Not for all but works great for us.

Sprinter vans. Yea. Totally a fad. Pinch Huh

Now being serious here. Totally awesome and the perfect vehicle to race out of. Your shit is safe in them than a truck. And really you can use it as a daily driver too if needed. I don’t think they’re fad vehicles at all. They’re made for people who race and tradesman.

Vans are very versatile. Nice to have a changing room, lots of storage, keep your bike out of site from thief's . For longer trips, the Transit and Sprinter can tow a nice size trailer.

Sprinter vans are the fad with just enough excuse/validity to justify in someones mind to buy......if they just simply want to buy one. It's like a damn man-bun. Want a moto van, go get a used van for <$10K and deck it out. I was at a local track the other day and saw a moto dad who just bought a Mercedes Sprinter van to take his daughter around in, who by all accounts is a very nice and pleasant young lady who I wish all the success in her MX journey. But damn, if you got that much money to burn on your kid who (just being brutally honest) isn't going to go past a local C class, give some to friggin Ryan Breece and call it a sponsorship. I applaud the passion for the sport and wish the young lady the best - this isn't directed at her (its at her dad). But getting a sprinter van isn't going to teach her to go faster. Rant over.

I think 4x4 truck and flat bed trailer is about as useful as a combo as someone can get for just about everything. A box trailer is also extremely useful.

Sprinter vans = moto man buns IMHO
Vitalmx, where even simple/innocent and interesting discussions of race transportation get sidetracked by clowns.

Ford Transit! My daily driver and it is so convenient. Throw the groceries in the back, baby stroller, basically anything, it's always dry and secure. Get 17MPG and can set cruise control for relaxing driving or hammer down if running late.

Spend the time to build a secure and sealed wall and you will never go back to the truck.

You need to upgrade the locks if you are using a transit. They are great vans but can be broken into in literally 5 seconds.

I guess it's safe to say that you won't be changing yours to "Comedian" anytime soon.

btw, if you're going to attempt to insult someone, you should at least know the difference between your and you're. It makes you sound really stupid. And trust me, you don't need any more help in that department.

Excellent point. If I try to drag a 8 foot high trailer with my express it’s like dragging a parachute. Fuel mileage goes to shit. Towing with the tall sprinter it’s like the trailer isn’t even there!

We use deadlocks on ours.

All they need to break in to the cab is a screw driver and a pair of grips.

The plastic around the cab lock is replaced as that is the weakspot.

Obviously it won't stop them if they really want it, but it stops it from being such a stupidly easy target.

If you decide to go with the sprinter, I might be interested in buying your trailer.

I love my transit van! I am a mom who drives my son all around to tracks. We’ve gone from ct to ca and ct to fl. Instead of having a seat like in most of the pictures here i had my husband build a bed higher up so the luggage and supplies can fit under the bed.

Believe I read that Ford was making an AWD transit to capitalize on the sprinter market

Just out of curiosity how well does that do mpg wise? Prob i hear around 16-17 with the transit now towing curious how much the wind break helps you with the trailer.

I have gone over this debate in my head for a couple years now. I really would like to have a van but just cannot justify the money if i am not going to daily drive it. No matter how you look at it if you are not going to drive it all the time a truck and a trailer is cheaper.

With the wind deflectors on back of van, going 65 in no wind conditions get 13. This is with the 3.7 and tow package which has a 3.73 rear end.

My 2 cents.

Had a 20’ enclosed. Loved it. Sold it.

Bought a Promaster and built it out bad ass. Loved it. Sold it to a member here.

Bought a 7x14. Built it out bad ass. Love it.

The van was cool but I didn’t camp in it. id show up for practice day, unload everything, ride, and then have to load it all back up. Then I’d come back the next day and get a crap parking spot 2 miles from the gate.

With my trailer I can leave everything locked up and ditch it at the track and go to eat or go to the hotel or my wife can go shopping while we practice etc. and I don’t have to take it all with me.

The van was convenient at times, but a real PItA at others. For me, the trailer meshes more with our racing. But when the wind blows while I’m driving (all the time), I wish I had the van back!

Buy one. What the hell. Can always buy another trailer Laughing

Here in California a trailer is a no bueno because of lane control and speed limit. With a trailer you can only drive in the 2 right lanes, you cannot use the HOV lanes, and the speed limit when towing is 55. The CHP pretty much will let you go anything under 65 with a trailer when traffic is flowing if you're not squirrelly but no HOV lanes, even the toll ones. Without a trailer they'll let you slide up to anything under 75 when traffic is moving and you can use all the HOV lanes. In the Inland Empire area where the tracks are traffic is so bad 7 days a week that it's a deal breaker. It could cost you 30 minutes to an hour every day. That's why it's so overwhelmingly vans at the test tracks. The industry is here so that's what you see in the magazines and online. If it didn't cost me time every day I'd pull a trailer out for sure.

10 or 12 foot single rear wheel cube van if you're ballin' on a budget. A couple grand will get you into a higher miled former work van. Covers everything a Sprinter does but built on a more rugged Ford or Chevy cab/chassis.
