He put in 3 solid “mains” and got the job done.

He made the main event on a factory bike and finished just inside the top ten. That is an adequate finish for a first year pro, but I wouldn’t classify it as “cutting loose.”
In 2014, AC cut it loose. Notice the difference?

Why are you being so hateful? This is a teenage boy racing his second supercross race ever. You should dial it back about 9 notches.

Great ride by Jalek Swoll. Ninth in your second supercross ever is nothing to bat an eye at.

I think this result was fantastic for him. He's not yet at Jett's level.... Just is what it is.

Maybe we should look back at rookie expectations. How does Swoll's result compare to what was expected from the SX rookie and former MX2 winner Covington? Looks like Swoll had a great ride to me.

haha watched that whole thing in practices and was laughing my ass off. Guy could not ride whoops to save his life...They flattened the whoops before the night show and they became jumpers anyways, so that was his saving grace.

9th is respectable, but not quite "killing it" for a FACTORY RIDER. Jordan Bailey 2.0

people put SO much pressure on these kids to perform right out of the gate. if they don't go out and fuckin' kill it then the haters come in droves. if they do well but not up to the public's standards, then the haters come out.

let them get a good solid season under their belt, not everyone can come out like an RC or JS.

The Rookie Updates on the broadcasts about Swoll and Shimoda have been pathetic. They wouldn't shut up about Jett Lawrence with the West Coast rounds (even before his breakout performance), and now we're lucky to get more than a couple words and turns focused these two very promising young athletes.

I really enjoy watching Shimoda ride. He's incredibly smooth and efficient. Also I believe I met him a long time ago when he and his dad first setup shop in SoCal, so it's fun to see how far he's come.

I think peoples criticism is more of a referendum on the Amateur system. There have been alot of these kids that come up, and because the teams are so competitive to sign them as amateurs, they throw in a 2 year pro contracts. But as we've seen with a lot of racers recently (Swoll, Cantrell, Bailey, Faulk) they're clearly not deserving, yet have the contracts factories are forced to abide.

This obviously takes spots that would probably be filled by more deserving/proven riders like Hayes, Osby, Crown, etc...

So again, I dont think people hate Swoll, but he will have to prove deserving on that spot.

I kinda like it, especially for Jo. Not too much pressure aside from internally, solid rides two top 10s in two starts. Keep building a solid foundation and maybe can turn it loose at Daytona.

Yup

That 1st race in Tampa was pretty damn hard on him & I think it gave him cause to ride a bit conservative at Arlington. He spent a bit of extra time passing people that he’d normally pass much quicker.

I’m stoked for him. He’ll move up and get a little more loose and fluid.

They both did well in east coast first 2 rnds but I think jo has potential to top 5 once he gets a few more raced under his belt . Jett got so much hype because of his speed his first round got same results as these rookies whilst he had the runs and spewin , then next race he stepped it up by running 2nd most of the race in the “west “ coast until his bent brake pedal and his pull in to pit lane stopped a podium and still finished 5th ( also 2nd fastest lap time of race ) then at A2 he was 2nd ahead Of Ferrandis in his heat race then lead whole main till a few crns before the flag fighting for that win the hype was cause Jett is younger than all those rookies at 16 and did all this with limited sx experience which may explain the mistakes in racing these other rookies have been racing mini o , monster cup and practicing sx at tracks ect for years . So that’s why there was probably more hype .

Which interview was it?

I think Shimoda has a bright future. Great style and doesn't go over the limit. About Swoll. He needs time but did a great rebound that second race. I think these kids don't get enough time. Look at Falk and Bailey. Both great supported amateurs, and as soon as they need it the most the teams quit on them.

And if you are going to compare rookie years stop comparing these kids to prodigies and all time greats. Start comparing them to all rookies. You can’t use rc/stew/reed/McGrath etc every time you want to make a comparison of a rider not performing. For every RC, there are a 100 Ryan Mills, Ben riddles and others who couldn’t dominate.
