Safety. Grow our sport

Edited Date/Time 2/21/2020 1:45pm
Previous threads have established key points for bringing new riders to this sport. For beginners,
1. Better protective apparel
2. Cheap low performance mx bikes
3. Safe tracks

We already have all of that and it's not growing.

While I agree with the message, I’m not sure you need to start one of these threads daily.

It’s gotten to the point to where we have to ask you this question. Why are you still involved in the sport if it is so unsafe to you? My drive to work every morning is more dangerous than a few laps at pala.

How about do a search on this site and look at the other 10,000 times safety and bikes too powerful has been discussed.

You aren't posting anything new that hasn't been beaten to death here before...

Kind of surprises me there is not a class for the 110's at AMA sanctioned races. Adults can race them and send them over jumps in some gnarly pit bike races (Summit This weekend?) but if you try to talk about letting kids race them the typical response is "thats a trail bike". Good power, low maintenance and easy to ride. Great way to get kids into racing.

Let's face it. This sport hit it's peak popularity with the explosion of FMX. Now that, that's pretty much died down, except nitro circus (which is literally a circus with performers) Motocross will never be as main stream as baseball, football, soccer or even golf. The sport itself is too expensive! That is the biggest deterrent there is, along with potential injuries. When, and if you can ever get into the sport for under $100 then we will see it hit mainstream. But that's never going to happen.

Trying to be real here, but seems to me you're a troll looking for controversial hot topics to discuss and get people arguing. Either your a complete moronic imbecile, who somehow imagines a world, like Thailand, where everyone is on motorcycles, but they would be riding Motocross instead. It is just NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! There are way too many Sissy's out there afraid if the repercussions of falling of your bike. I mean ffs how much physical activities have they removed from schools, and objects from playgrounds?

In all reality, there may or may not be, an event that could've been avoided to prevent a catastrophic injury. But then again, that's why it's called a fkn ACCIDENT! They are NOT INTENTIONAL! Do you think after all your nay saying, and mentioning of how dangerous this sport is, a random mom or dad reading any of these posts, would ever let their kids get into the sport, if they aren't themselves into it? Hell no, you're literally helping to try and destroy mx scene with these stupid topics. Which do neither to help promote safety, or the sport itself.

Do us all a favor, go get your moped, and STFU already about safety. Everything we put on to ride is safety equipment. Everytime we start our bikes, could be the last. But that goes with anything in life! So seriously STFU! If you're scared of injuries or death GTFO of the sport, fkn sissy!

I Think a Class for them on part of the Track, like a track within a track, or Half of the track. And Include a class for Some bikes like this would be a Game Changer.
This bike is A XR100 motor in a Race chassis.
Not everyone wants to go as Big and as fast as the bikes are these days.
And it actually has been Done but I wish it was everywhere.

They say history repeats itself. I don't know about Australia, but for Southern Ca. this worked in the past.

Vacant neighborhood lots and empty fields where kids can ride from their house.
Cheap simple bikes any kid with a set of tools could fix.
Off road parks, ie: Saddleback, Escape Country, Seabreaze, DeAnza...etc. Racing for all size bikes and offroad trails, rental bikes yada yada.
On Any Sunday.
How we get back there I have no idea

Life is not safe.

Thanks to all the"bulldozer" parents, safe spaces, emotional support animals and trigger warnings that have brought us to this....

How did we ever survive ?

Yeah that was allowed because there weren't as many people like, chook here, trying to regulate everything. Someones kid gets hurt, and instead of accepting the date, they try and blame anyone and anything else they can.

And that was before California turned into the over regulated, over bearing, super scared of everything, no one ever responsible for their own actions, state we are currently living in. Regulations and massive migration has turned Cali from the beautiful Golden State to Kommiefornia.. 😭😢🤬🤬

Before everyone from Cali becomes too judgmental, there are some tracks here in Texas, specifically North of Houston (Dallas-Fortworth area), that have some seriously dangerous jumps that is available to the general public. Like unnecessarily dangerous when only 2-3 riders out of 50 riders can hit em. They try to justify it by giving you a double-down option instead of tripling, but you know damn well people stare at that mug all day, and then eventually go for it.

When I lived in New Mexico, all the tracks out there (there used to be a bunch), were hella forgiving, and that state pumped out plenty of AMA pros and even one MXGP pro.

Its all a moot point, because track owners dont give a fuck, their money, their decision. My best advice, find a different track to ride. As far as the average joe is concerned Houston tracks >>> Dallas tracks if you wanna go home and kiss your wife and kids after a fun day of moto

You don't get statistics do you? Put it this way, how many miles have you driven a car without a crash? How many miles have you been on a dirt bike and crashed? Way more people die in cars because there are millions of more people on the road at any time. If the same amount of people rode motocross that drive cars and do the same amount of miles, you'd see way more injuries/deaths. Motocross is way more dangerous than driving a car.

This is the type of argument that will help kill the sport.

You need money to be in the sport. The people that have money put a ton of time and money into their kids and don't want to see them hurt for life for a sport. This is why football is becoming less popular too. People now see the impacts of concussions on the brain in the long term.

I'd be fine with my kid riding/racing a track that was mostly flat and tame but no way do I want him riding/racing a regular track. I don't need him getting landed on by some kid who can barely ride but can do all the jumps cause they're on an overpowered 250F.

Lastly, riding areas are going away because people are moving to cities for work and the land is too expensive. If you have to spend all day getting to and from the track, fewer people are going to do it.

You think the tracks here are just vet tracks or what? If you think something is out of your limits, don’t jump it. It’s really not that hard. Self awareness is a crazy concept
