It's like a carbon copy of what happened to Webb when he went from 250 to 450..

It will be interesting to see Plessinger next year on a different team.

He’ll have to show something to get that chance. As tough as it was those first couple of years on the blue pig, Cooper was still able to put it on the box once in a while. These flashes of brilliance probably helped him land his current ride.

And the most important thing of them all. Cooper Webb was not working hard enough in his 2 first years in the 450 class. He has admitted that.

I think it is the bike. I love yamaha, have owned 2 2016 yz450s, and currently ride a yz250, but I can’t get myself to want another yz450 until they turn the motor around. They are great bikes if you want to ride at 80%, but they do not turn compared to the other brands when rode aggressively. Sure, Barcia won a sx race, but I can only imagine how much better he would be riding if he was back on Honda. Look at Stewart, Grant, Brayton, Millsaps, Webb, Plessinger, all of them overall had a bad experience on that bike compared to other brands during their career. Comparing the 450 to the 250 is irrelevant because the bike acts drastically different. Hopefully they change it soon because I’d like to have a yz450 alongside my yz250 smoker.

The current YZ450F is not even close to the bike that Stew, Grant, Brayton and Millsaps rode. And like i said before, Webb was "slacking" with his training the years he rode the YZ450F.

The bike in itself is not the issue for Plessinger. It might be a small part but he is responsible for getting it setup for him.

I’m sure a baby surprise that showed up halfway through his rookie 450 season only added to the pressures he is dealing with. He wears a happy go lucky face, but it can’t be a good time back at the semi after the races. I hope he’s able to put up some results outdoors this summer.

Hes right around the top 10. So what exactly is factory level good to you? 3 guys?

I understand hes not living up to the hype. But that comment you just made is absolutely asinine.

He got 5th in Atlanta, the race before he broke his heel. So saying he has been "off" since he moved to the 450 isn't really the case. He's coming back from a brutal injury and having to play "catch up" with the fastest Supercross racers in the world.

He is right there with the other 250 champions in my opinion. Mookie,Hill, Bogle and Plessinger in 7-14 guys. Tough class and like he said 3/4 of them were champions.

1-2-9-5 for 3rd overall in the points standings. Seems average......

There's 19 factory or factory-supported rides in 450. Beeing 9-12th is not as horrible as you make it out to be. While he is at the tail end of the factory guys, it's not like he's not qualifying. If he can find a second per lap he's right there. Someone has to be at the end, not everyone can be at the front.

Although, I do not agree that Plessinger is a 2nd tier factory rider. I do think that Yamaha should invest into the Rock River Yamaha team, like KTM did with the Rocky mountain team. As of now the Austrian manufacturers seem to be the only factory teams interested growing the sport domestically. If the Japanese manufacturers don't want to get left behind, it seems it would be a wise choice to follow suit.

You have to look at the amount of effort that is being put into the race bike development. When you have a good base set-up(as Yamaha does), you dont always have to slap on every single "factory" part known to man. Look at Grant Langstons 2009 nationals bike or Roczens 2016 nationals bike, they both had a lot of stock components. Im sure the guys at Yamaha are working their tails off, but maybe they need some new people working within the factory race team, just to get some new ideas on testing, set-up, innovation, etc....

Yeah, you’re probably right...but we’d probably be shocked to really know the percentage of regular posters here who bash & critique riders...who have never even been on a dirt bike, let alone race!

The talk that i'm hearing is that the Yamaha race team is a shit show. The Yamaha probably isn't as agile as some of the other bikes for supercross. Great bike for us....not so great for 450 supercross. Also....Plessinger had a pretty bad heel break. These don't completely heal. It's like an eggshell....once you shatter your heel the fluid between the bones leaks out and it becomes arthritic. I'll bet it hurt Plessinger to walk as well. Maybe he will give us some insight......

I wouldn't call it a "shit show", I mean, they are doing a hell of a lot better than Suzuki at the moment. But I would question whether or not they are utilizing all of the domestic resources available to them. Yamaha has Ryan Villopoto as a "brand ambassador, and Travis Preston as a production test rider. Ive only heard of Preston doing some factory bike testing at the end of the nationals. Im just a common fan and I could be completely wrong, but it would be nice to see Yamaha integrate these past champions into the program to hopefully help out with current situation.

True, but the motor is still backwards and the bike does not turn as well as the other brands. I’m a yamaha guy but these are the facts.

I just said that because I hear it here so often, lol. I've never ridden one so I have no idea. Maybe it's a good woods bike? Wink

Whether you ride or not there is probably about 10 people that know what’s going on with AP7. Willing to bet no one that’s posted in this thread is one of them. Yet, it’s still fun to share opinions or thoughts back and forth. To me it’s just childish to take the “well you can’t ride like him” approach.

I’m willing to bet that his heel took a lot of endurance training away from him and he’s not quite there for 20+. Then add in his bike might be off some rounds and that’s a huge disadvantage. I’m not as fast as Aaron thought so what does my opinion matter

If you are a team manager would you pick Dylan or Arron?
Even if ap7 results improve I don’t see Yamaha letting DF go to another team.

So...could it be, if that’s correct, that Barcia saying his motor is mostly stock is less the result of intensive testing & more the result of limited Japan R&D factory support?

Been saying this for a while, like i said before and ill say it again, the sport Is packing its bags and getting its plane tickets, boat tickets, and whatever else ready cause its heading out, if the sheep cant see the writing in the wall then they are blind, what more can you improve on a motocross bike, motocross/supercross has come and gone and its been awesome, but its heading out, its all about just riding, i wouldn't be surprised if plessinger walked away from the sport because of judging people like you all that post on this forum and talk shit, who would want to remember that. Fans asking for Jerseys just to go throw up for sale the next week, people thinking that Ronnie mac is someone to look up to. The entire sport has taken a turn for the worse and if you cant see it your blind.

Plessinger has said it before, in mx you barely can find anyone thats willing to help you, but in gncc everyone is willing.

And i personally think when you throw a good soul into a ring of bad ones and southern california away from family it becomes a question of “what am i doing with my life” “like honestly what am i doing?”

“Time is passing, my parents are aging, my kids are not getting to see their grandparents as much as a regular family.” It becomes a question of if the sacrifice to be someone in an already greedy sport is really worth it.

So far plessinger has been the only one to give back to the amateurs as paying some tuition for school for them.

Talking shit on this guy isn't a good look for any of you all in this board.

He's a good ohio soul thats now trapped in a experiment for a certain amount of money getting him to stay.

If you drop him because of his supercross results your going to be sorry when it comes time for nationals.

Webb was a helllllllllllll of a lot better rider than plessinger on 250 , imo he will come good on 450 s but will only ever be a 5 - 10 guy in the 450 s . He got beat for a SX championship by Mookie. Look how he is doing . I don't know why people think he should be winning. Zaco was alway s a good bit better than him imo . And look at how good the next group are .who is he ment to beat ????? . PS , i thought the last race was alot better for him .
