03/13/2020 - Dade City.

Stoked to hear this news, will definitely be trying to make this race. Ever since moving back East, it’s not been an option.

Does Dade City have the facilities to offer a long GP style track?

A Day in the Sand would be a more appropriate title. There is no dirt in Florida. 😝😝

Not sure if they still use it, but they had a back section below the main track that used to get pretty rough. Would tie it in during WinterAms, day races sometimes.

They use the back section for Sunday races I think it will be big enough for amateur fun of GP racing especially when it gets rough.

I'll be there for sure. Glad they had one on the east coast.

Id say not depending on your idea of a long gp track. To me that is a 10 min lap.

The track is short for sure. Not sure how they are going to accommodate that many riders for parking or even on the track. It’ll be interesting for sure.

Is there much of a film industry in Florida?

The original idea behind the race was mixing the film/stunt industry with the moto industry. Seems kind of odd to see it become a “franchise” of sorts. Oz, now FL. Oh well, if Kenny can move it to other areas and be successful, more power to him

It’s no longer a Film industry race. Kenny has decided to take it to the next level. Hopefully it is a huge success in Florida, it’s become a huge weekend here in California.
I’ve been to most of them, but decided to pull out this year and ride the hills with all the rain we were getting.

Randy, the owner, is really close with the county, so I am sure there will be plenty of space. My guess is they will be using the entire fairgrounds for the track and then have a pit area in one of the other fields. Randy is a smart guy, I am sure he has all of it already figured out.

It definitely started out as a film industry get together and race, but has grown into much more.

However, there is a very large amount of us film industry people now living in the Atlanta area. I know a few of us that will make the trip, depending on work schedules.

So how does the GP format work for those of us (including me) that have never done one?

Mix moto and hare scramble. Can be whatever but usually 30 min motos with starting gate. A whole moto track and a woods loop. Usually 10 min laps or so.

Interested. Have to see what kind of races they schedule since they don't have multiple tracks. If it's multi day that may be my limiting factor. I don't have a camper or nicely outfitted trailer.

Well, if it’s like the original in California it is a mix of 45 minute gp motos and team races (you do a lap and your partner does a lap, until time runs out)

It’s a hand in your helmet start, bike in neutral until green flag drops.

And the track is exactly as described above. A mixture of Moto and hare scrambles. Long lap times.

Can one person do the entire 45min moto?

Yes, there are single rider races and team events.

There is a lot of cool stuff-

You can even get an “Ironman” award. I think you get that when racing a vintage class, single rider class, team race and the coup de gras- the coup de gras is the final event of the weekend and I believe that is something like a 2 hour race.

There is also a race called the bosa nova, which is where you team up with two other riders and the combined score of the three of you is where you finish.

You will need to verify all this when the details emerge, but I know I am close in my explanations. It’s a three day event, check In practice and maybe a race or two on the first day

Appreciate that Regis, sounds pretty cool to me.

I bet 1000 bucks I'm working that weekend. Every race event over the last 2 years i'm working the weekend. Frustrating. But maybe not!

Its a damn cool event. Lots of riding if you want but lots of other cool stuff as well. Xr100 race, not sure if there will be the hell on wheels races but that is mostly vintage and has a class for just about everything, even pull start mini bikes if there is enough. Like I said, not sure of the Florida round, but just incase, if you have a bike that runs bring it you might just get to race it. DITD is like fine wine, gets better with age.

I’ve been to most of them, but decided to pull out this year and ride the hills with all the rain we were getting.
The earliest ones at LACR were the best, but Kenny and the FH team have turned this into an event destination, and good on them for including the rest of the country/AU. I know a Euro one has been talked about as well.

You S.E. people will love it.
