Wait until new batteries are designed to give longer life and faster charging. You know it's coming. Then we'll have sealed motors, no air filters to clean, linear power, instant torque, low maintenance rides. What's not to like?

Well buddy, we are still using battery tech to power our cell phones, computers, power tools, cars, etc.. that is nearly 30 years old. Soooo when do you think this battery revolution going to start?

30 years we had NiMh tools which had very poor performance, run time, etc. Now power tools can be used all day with a couple of batteries and charger. Check out the 120V chop saws. RC cars use LiPo which has its benefits.

As an aside, I just bought an 80V lawn mower, weed whipper, blower and am surprised how much I like it (One battery is more than good enough for a 5,000 sqft lawn). No smell, oil, gas, noise etc. And as an engineer I love ICE engines, but this new stuff has a lot of benefits.

So when will acceptable battery life/charge time/range come? Not sure; 5 - 10 years? Good bet it won't be Li-ion though... Either way $billions are being poured into battery tech so a lot of people are looking at solving the problem.

I like the sound and smell of ice bikes. Ice will still be around 30 years from now and I’m 50 so I’m all good.

This bike is a DIY build by a guy in Australia. The guy said he really wanted an Alta but having one shipped to Australia was a logistical and economical nightmare, so he decided to build an electric dirtbike himself. Said he spent about the price of a used Alta in the United States (8-9000).
