Took me a day, but after re-reading this thread, I think I get this initial lobster reference in context. Hard to tell if I’ve ever had a great lobster as it’s usually intertwined with our wedding anniversary, etc. Understandably, I have other things on my mind for later. Wink Like a good BBQ’d pork chop. Coals not gas with some Kinders seasoning.

Haven't tried lump in my own bbq. Maybe it's the smell of lighting briquettes that brings back childhood memories for me.

Lump Cowboy charcoal is the only way to go.
That and use a chimney lighter.

You can get them at Wally World, stop using nasty lighter fluid and charcoal briquettes unless you enjoy chemicals in your food! Sick

I particularly enjoy (sarcasm) that Kingsford is owned by Clorox. Shocked A little Bob Seger on the outdoor speakers(when we have power), a banquet beer, skoal long cut, and dog is intact. All the previous make for great conversation pieces when having new people come over.

Man, that brings back memories. Med cruise back in '91, I'm a snot-nosed LTJG on the FID, when the squadron chiefs invite me to their weekly surf & turf dinner. This is a real deal, no dirty khakis, four-on-the-floor feast!

So I'm escorted like the royalty I am to the chief's wardroom. A gentle knock is greeted by an immaculately decked-out E3, tables adorned with white linen, and actual candles! I'm thinking "Am I still on the boat? Did I cross some time/space continuum?", when we're served 2" thick fillets and a lobster tail the size of my boot! And it's not some shoddy job, no sir! This meal is for the chiefs, who show absolutely zero tolerance for anything less than perfection.

We shared stories (well, what little stories this first-time cruise JO could have), and before you knew it, my time had come to an end. The chiefs all rose, offered a toast to this lowly officer, and proceeded to bum-rush my ass out the door!

As it has been said before, and will be said again: chiefs run the navy...

I was a Photographer's Mate when I was in. We used to get the Chief's Mess to cater the photo lab on Indy in trade for 8x10s of the official ship's photo (below). For all of the shit that gets talked about navy cooks, the ones in the CPO Mess know what they're doing.

Sorry I bailed but had to go deep in the mountains and reset my mind
Nothing like hiking around in old growth forest by myself to get reborn

Hang my hammock between 2 rocks on top of the !mountain and watch the sun set then rise is just so cool

Even there though you run into those people

I’m not defending Hillbillies original post. It was certainly rough around the edges. Too rough for some obviously.

There was plenty of other good back and forth dialogue in that thread. Some of us are capable of typing up a coherent thought. And replying to others in a thoughtful and respectful manner.

The problem is when just because there is a difference of opinion, one side gets shouted down. Shut down. Clipped. Silenced. Whatever you want to call it.

Believe it or not, these topics are not political. They are moral and ethical topics. They are only politicized to keep good folks divided.

- Why are some gays so open in public to the point of it being completely inappropriate
- Why do we look for any sign up life (any microbe or living cell) on another planet and call that life, but a beating heart on Earth is not life
- Why are there a significant amount of incarcerated African Americans
- Why is most terrorism globally committed by Muslims.
- why do parents refuse to vaccinate their kids
- How has the break down in the family contributed to mental health problems
- Why isn’t marriage valued anymore by society. Or rather, why does there seem to be a concerted effort to undermine marriage.
- Why are there safe spaces in college schools
- Why are illegal immigrants allowed to keep breaking the law.

I could go on and on. Those are examples of threads that have been clipped here over the years.

Rather then saying no politics on vital how about no moral or ethical topics.
This is a motocross forum with a non-moto section bolted on as a sidecar. When it comes to all the sections, I prefer to keep more of what unites us, and less of what divides us. When it comes to non-moto, that's particularly true. Most of it's not worth saving. The world's problems aren't going to get solved here.

The big problem you have here is that you primarily post in the non-moto section. Looking over the last eight-plus pages (at 20 messages per page) of your posts on your profile, there are maybe 20 moto-related posts. So being generous, you post about 12% on the moto side, and 88% on this side. I weight your opinion accordingly.

I've definitely let some stuff slide here...particularly when it comes to guns. Some (many) of the other topics aren't really worth saving. You touched on a few of them above. If you really want to talk about that stuff, I'm sure you can find some other more tolerant forum to take out your keyboard aggressions.

Just for giggles, I went on a deep dive back to the early days of the site...back when we still allowed posts on politics. Man, people were really going after each other. Looking through that, I figure ditching those topics, as well as religion, are a couple of the best decisions made here.

HB , I myself have less then 1 bar reception where I'm at. Fishing / crabbing on a jetty with an easy 10' swells. I got drenched today and also a little scared on how vicious this ocean can be. I made it down here and dropped my 3 traps off the jetty before it got dark. May of lost one as it got sucked into the rocks right when I threw it out and I got blasted with water. Letting all 3 traps soak over night , pull them in the morning and then sticking with the surf crabbing tomorrow. That jetty is no fucking joke!

I find Non - Moto quite entertaining especially now that Off-season is in full swing. We learn a lot about each individual member here...

Anyways, no offence to Hillbilly and his nice brothers above...all in good fun.
