What’s the issue with the schedule?

I know the schedule is tough because of the use of the stadiums but would it really be that difficult to allow more time off between sx and Mx?

They talk about the Europe series a lot and how much easier it is on the riders but they don’t have supercross so of course they get more time off.

I think they just need to do something soon to give these guys more breaks. It has to be brutal and it could extend the careers of everyone possibly.

So is it possible for the schedule to be revamped to make it better or is it as good as it’s going to get considering all the factors?

the mistake you make is the assumption that the SX series is about the riders. It is first and foremost a money making endeavor and in the end entertainment for Feld. I think the case can be made that the outdoors are more core and have more care for the riders (although not amatuers as the schedule could criss cross the states lees i think).

So Feld does not care about the riders and if they are tired in outdoors or if they get time to test for outdoors. They care that they sell tickets at the stadium and the tv rights turn a profit.

Like I tell my students all the time, if you want the truth follow the money.

Follow the money and you will find your reason. The MXoN date has been nearly the same for 50+ years. Oh the us tv package has to end because of college football and back to school. lol Give me a break. MavTV is wide open. Anyone who thinks monster (mxon and mec) is not to blame is a also a fool.

I still don't buy the BS about why we have to criss cross the USA 5 times for MX (I know it's not that bad), but I would think MX Sports could easily say "track owner X, you have date 1 or 1a, if that doesn't work we will find another track."

I'm not about dictatorship, but let's be practical here too. You want to host a national here are 2-3 dates that work, that would be more cost beneficial for the factories as well as privateers.

I totally understand the feeling of time off as a fan. However, you've completely failed to realize this thread isn't about you.

SX: 7 west & 7 east with 1 final
It could be over just after Easter.
Yes...yes...I know...Feld can't possibly "get it"; but, I do.

One thing that DC and/or Weege have mentioned previously is that for outdoors to be pushed to a later start is difficult with the NBC contract, as college football starts up and a lot the resources and live time slots for MX disappear. I think this is the main reason why outdoors always has to end before Labour Day weekend. (EDIT: sorry, I see GForceCoatings pointed this out above, my bad.)

Supercross runs 17 races in 18 weekends. The only way it finishes earlier is if it starts earlier. I mean, maybe there could be a way to run SX in December in baseball stadiums on the west coast, then have a Christmas break and start up after New Year's. But then the window gets even smaller at the end of the year for an off-season break. And if SX started first weekend in December it would not help with the MXoN participation, even if the riders finished the year a bit more rested.

Some guys actually hate the schedule breaks. I've heard Anderson, AC, Tomac all comment that they prefer to just get in the flow and keep racing.

I don't think tracks are lining up to get nationals like they once were.

That is not a comment on mx sports. That is the reality of a business where expenses have grown while attendance and sponsorship have not.

Tracks have to work their schedules out as well around other things going on in their area that could affect motel availability and support services (security, ambulance, Porta potties).

The there’s no need for 17 rounds of sx. All the tracks mimick each other. Even 14 rounds would make the difference. 5 weeks off between sx and mx would be beneficial for the riders.

In the US, you have 2 series, being run by 2 different promoters, that are very profitable. Neither is going to (or should) cut their series short to allow a longer off season. Realistically, everyone has from September till January off. That's longer than NASCAR has off. Nobody is being forced to race any of these off season races, nor or they being forced to compete in both series.

Is this thread insinuating that the US series' should be cut short so they can attend the MXON? That would be assuming that the promoters, teams and riders care as much about the event as some of the fans. I'm sorry that seems to hurt so many feelings, but it's reality. Nobody is going to plan their year around 1 event that is only a financial burden and risk to their investment (the rider), with zero return on investment or incentive.

Yes, but you have to think about sponsorship dollars. The contracts are for 17 rounds, not 14. Less rounds, less money. Remember, always follow the money.

As for the riders, I don’t feel sorry for any of them. They get paid to race a dirt bike. I don’t think asking them to race 1 day a week for 35 out of 52 weeks a year is asking a lot. I bet you work 5 days a week 50-51 weeks a year for a lot less money and a lot less fun. 😉👍🏻

Reason I started this thread was because of the new video posted on homepage. Mx nation season 5 episode 1. Watch it then comment if haven’t already.
Supercross is the money. No doubt about it. I understand the schedules with football and tv packages and all but it is a lot for riders who want to ride both series.

If things don’t change soon then riders and teams will adapt and you will see more riders in supercross only and only a few outdoors. We want the best in both. Need to keep it that way somehow.

Time for the us factory teams to have seperate mx only and sx only riders. Cut the salaries in half and pay both the same. Let the riders decide which 50% of the year they want to race.

If the Red Bull video Cooper said if he wins a SX title and an MX title he makes 1 million more for the SX title. That tells tou all you need to know about the future of outdoors. Teams, riders, networks etc would probably be fine with 6 MX rounds and more breaks.

Tomac has 3 straight MX titles but if he doesn't win a SX title his career will be incomplete. SX makes so much more money for everyone than Oudoors it is laughable. I understand the purist viewpoint, but you are a lot closer to having a 20 SX season than a 14 race. Races are shorter, more competitive, shows better on TV and is on Sat night primetime.

You want riders to do MXoN make the MX season 8 races with 4 rotating between tracks and being done by August 10th

for some reason i feel like they're doing a little bit of riding and testing between september and january; not just showing up on the gate at A1

For some reason, I feel like every athlete is working out during the offseason.
