2012 450mx was very thin thanks to sx injuries.

All I see is a lot of racers trying to beat Dungey's pace and then crashing out because they ride too far over the limit. Then, you have big time jealous fans of said racers trying to downplay Dungey's incredible career.

In the three races they raced together in 2016, Dungey beat Eli all three times. Then he was out with a neck injury. You know someone is big time desperate and big time pathetic when they hang onto Eli beating a guy who was out for the season after three races with a neck injury. Then some other big time desperado says Tomac put Dungey into retirement. New lows, big time lows.
Dungey saw Tomac’s speed after his shoulders recovered so he decided to retire a champion. That’s an irrefutable fact, mate. Not even Aldon Baker has an answer for Tomac’s MX speed. Tomac will win the 2020 SX Title, too.

Maybe you are too young to remember.

Dungey exited sx early with a collarbone injury practicing. Then Stew and Reed exited due to injury, then RV wrapped up the championship and promptly tore his ACl ending his 2012.

Onto outdoors, Stew switched to Suzuki and won the first 4 Moto's before crashing out in moto 1 at Thunder Valley. Take a look at the finishing order from that race. How many 450 wins (moto or overall) does the top 20 in that race have combined NOT including Dungey? The answer, not many. Fact matter.

Fact, those racers crashed out, or ended with injuries. 4 motos is nothing when you end up on your head trying trying to stay ahead of Dungey. Happened to Stewart, Reed, RV, Tomac, Roczen...all trying to stay ahead of Dungey and rode over their heads and ended up on the ground. Dungey beat Roczen and Tomac plenty of times outdoors and indoors, but you'll just pull the not 100 percent card like a big time lamo. Your "facts" are big time excuses in an attempt to down play Dungey. Here is a fact, a big time fact, that can't be disputed: Reed, Stewart, and Tomac never beat Dungey for an outdoor or indoor title. Roczen never beat him for an sx title. I want you to spend time on your lunch break thinking about that.

All those riders are amazing, but when I see people trying to down play Dungey's career, I just think that's big time lame.

I said the 2012 450mx season was thin (after Stew crashed out). RV, Reed, Tomac, Roczen were not racing in 450mx that season. Thanks for proving my point that 2012 was thin.

Dungey won over Eli every overall he raced with him in 2016.
Hmm I believe Eli beat him in points. Isn’t that what matters?

I thought everyone’s Dungey argument was “you gotta be in it to win it”? Well, he wasn’t in it in 2016.

To use another one of the points, maybe he crashed in 2016 trying to push the young guns pace?

You thought wrong. Unlike the others, Dungey doesn't have a history of crashes and injuries. But the big time error in your argument is that we are talking the about titles, and in 2016, it wasn't Tomac that won the title. Roczen did.

Stats are fine but epic rides are what I remember. All riders have a few or a lot depends on the rider.

Tomac and Stewart had so many epic rides it’s unreal.

Translating...computing through excuse filter. Results are in: Our guys didn't beat Dungey for a title.

Had JS7 not went SX only so many years, he could be close to RD. 2009-2010 would of been a cake walk.

Dungey would have won the 2017 450 MX title by round 10. Tomac has too many wired rides to race against someone like Dungey for a title. See Anderson and Webb. See multiple 5 to 10 place rides in 17 and 19 MX. His only dominant year was 18 450 MX.

Is that why Dungey retired, Did you ask him that?
Breaking his neck, then Nelsons horrible injury and Kenny’s are more the reason along with the fact that he got to have a life during the Summer of 16 but hey go with what you want. 😂

Last time I Checked Kenny was the only one that beat him in a title race of the current guys.

Using that logic we can say if Villopoto hadn’t retired he would have wrapped up the title at round 8. But none of that would ever happened if Carmichael never retired.

Why is it that Dungey gets given titles that he definitely didn’t win (2011), and some that he didn’t even compete for (2017)? Not trying to hate on Dungey but I always see people trying to discredit the more recent champions by saying Dungey would have won when, in my opinion if it was such a sure thing that he would have won, he wouldn't have retired.

It must have sucked for you watching Dungey smoke every premier rider you listed 24 - 24 races save for one moto where Allesi beat him... barely. Yep, facts matter.

With that logic in mind. Every title since 80 is null and void. Hannah would have won them all!

While in the 2011 MX series Dungey lost at least 30 points to his Suzuki shitting the bed not once but twice. BTW I’m an RV fan too.

RC quit because of Stew jumping shit in SX and RV quit because he hated racing, Dungey quit because of what I wrote earlier. I just think it’s Funny that after Dungey won 3 straight SX titles over Tomac and won the outdoors because Tomac weeded it huge and Dungey is the lucky one? Tomac at times can go faster than argabuly anyone but Dungey’s OMG did you see how bad he did races were 4th place. No comparison for a series, outside of Tomacs 18MX season.

It’s all in good fun, it’s what I come to Vital for. The what if’s and arguing with the same 20 of us over and over again.

Agreed, but you were the one who started with that logic so I'm not sure what your point is?

I’ve never claimed Dungey was lucky. All I'm saying is if we're going to give Dungey the 2011 titles because of mechanicals then surely we have to give Tomac the 2017 SX title? (Not to mention anyone else who has lost a title because of a mechanical). The stories are very similar, had a mechanical early, managed to claw their way back to title contention but didn't perform when it mattered. 2011 outdoors Dungey was one point behind RV after Washougal and only managed to beat RV in three motos after that, that's including the second moto at Southwick where he actually didn't beat him but put in one of the best riders ever. Even if you give Dungey the win in that moto he still loses the title by one point.

Again, I'm just saying that in both scenarios neither of them got the job done when it really mattered and only one of them gets shit for it, and it's not Dungey. Now to Dungey's credit he did manage to come back and win not just one but two more outdoor titles which is something Tomac has failed to do at all in SX.

Tomac only finished off the podium (4th) once this year in MX, what are you talking about??
This year was a textbook Dungey title run.

I really don’t understand why some people are getting butt hurt over the criticism of Dungey
stacking wins in thin fields. (He won about 30 races over the 2010 (thin field, RV2 injured, Reed on Kawi, Townley etc), 2012 (Stewart crashed out, RV2 injured) & 2015 seasons (ET3 out at round 3).
Nothing against Dungey he can only race who shows up but you do have to agree he did have it easy in those years. (Good on him, he deserved to after all the work he put in).
He was beaten by RV2 2011/2013, his rookie teammate KR94 2014 and went out injured in 2016 (I don’t think he would of beat KR94).
I do agree that he would of probably won 2017 450MX though, ET3 was too inconsistent.
