My wife loves these things, but they lack the ability to fly down and out a door. Just bounce off the celling.. any tricks before I make it go to Jesus?

They’re attracted to the color red. Maybe set something small and red just outside an open door or window. Maybe a Solo cup on the window sill?

Looks like he's had a tough couple of days. There is no way to calm it down. Just let it go.

Weird. Just after seeing this thread I saw a post on facebook from a friend of mine with the same exact issue. In his case the bird got tired and he held out a stick and it landed on the stick and he carried it out on the stick. Before tonight I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they had a hummingbird in their garage and tonight 2 times in 10 minutes. Smile

Happens at my place a couple times a summer. I’m always harping on my kids to make sure the garage door is shut. Not just hummingbirds either. Had a crow in there overnight once and it wreaked havoc. Knocked stuff of shelves. For the hummingbird situation I made a net out of a broom handle, wire hangar and an old laundry bag. Works like a charm if you can corner them.

It gets weirder, Void. One came in my garage Thursday. Hovered right in front of me, looked this way and that, and just that fast turned and flew out. That was a first for me. They are fascinating little critters.

This happened to my wife last week. When I found the bird in the garage it was on the floor against the wall with its wings spread. I just knew it had killed itself banging into the walls. I went with a broom and nudged it, much to my dismay it perked up and flew immediately out of the garage!!

I'll chime in 3rd. I had never heard of or ever saw a hummingbird get stuck in a garage. I got a chuckle reading about your coincidence last night. Then this evening, the very next day of reading your post, I spent 20 minutes trying to get a hummingbird out of our greenhouse that just kept bouncing off the ceiling.
I started out the first 10 minutes by sticking a hummingbird feeder on a table at the door but he wouldn't go toward it at all. Then I had about a 100 tries at getting him to perch on a broom handle and about just as many times he jumped off it as soon as I moved it. Then I realized he was jumping off as soon as I went by a light, so I turned the lights off even though it wasn't dark. 4 or 5 more tries and he was flying off to freedom. I had to chuckle thinking back on this thread from just yesterday. crazy coincidence.

It must be going around! I had one stuck in my garage last week! After he tired himself out I was able to grab him and put him outside. I thought he was going to die from exhaustion so I made him a sugar-water cocktail and put his beak in it. It was like I kickstarted him instantly. A couple more sips and off he went.

Put out a feeder for them. They burn so many calories. They need the syrup. My wife has a couple out. These guys buzz around everywhere.
