I wasn’t trying to get you, sorry if it came across that way. I had an ‘07 Ram 2500 with the Cummins and the Ram 1500 diesel peaked my interest when it was announced, so I followed it pretty closely. I just remember when the EcoDiesel first came out I was kind of confused why they didn’t go with Cummins, then I came across those articles. I thought for sure they would have stuck an inline 4-cyl based off the Cummins 4BT in the 1500.

my 2 cents , I know several people with the ECO boost engines with 200k+ miles they are work horses and great trucks .

If i were to buy a truck today it hands down would be a ford or a dodge , simply because im not into chevrolets " yes i have owned one " . You do not what so ever get your moneys worth . When i buy a truck im looking for the most usable "truck" not the flashiest , or best looking . Obviously i want it to look good , But chevy is more focused on looks in my eyes , the 5.3 is a turd as well.

That would have been sweet
Even a in line Cummins 3.0 would have been way better then the motor they chose
But I still like it

my 2500 has the 12" screen, thing is fuckin' sweet

the '19 RAMs are legit
It doesn’t have the big screen..just the 7”, but seems to be good for me.

We just pulled our boat up north (220 miles today)- Man I love this thing! It’s quiet, comfortable, and great power! I definitely made the right choice!

Here is a pic before we headed out..

Forget the truck and boat I love the location of the house. No neighbors right out your side windows.😄

I've narrowed it down to either the ram 1500 hemi or the f150 ecoboost. Both trucks will be 2017 or newer but used. Hoping to find something under 25k miles.

Cool, good luck searching. For what it's worth, my Ram is a 17 and I just turned 33k miles on it which have been trouble free. My buddy in Seattle has an ecoboost (17 or 18) and is also very happy with that.

If you decide F150...really do some digging about the Ecoboost. Glad I got the 5.0.

Another thing...you may not care, but the ecoboost sounds like shit with exhaust compared to the 5.0. Makes it harder to annoy people on cellphones or Prius drivers.

In my research I haven't found many issues with the EB, the 5.0 has oil consumption issues from what I've seen. Some owners over on f150 forum.com are getting new engines b/c of it.

I wanted to edit this response, after some more digging it seems the 2018 + 5.0's are the ones with oil consumption issues, the 2015-2017's seem to be fine.

The Titan XD diesel has caught my attention, V8 cummins paired with an aisin 6spd would be a tough combo.

I agree somewhat, the ones with all the chrome look terrible. The pro4x models look pretty good IMO, they do need a bigger tire though. I think a one size bigger AT tire would set them off pretty good.

GM. Excellent fuel economy, reliable, well designed. The 5.3 isn’t a powerhouse but it’s a really good engine, I’d take it over the Hemi or the Ford 5.0. I wouldn’t want an ecoboost either.
Get a 16+, the 14-15’s had awful headlights.
The 6.2 is great if you can get it.

I’ve had a 14 Sierra Denali with the 6.2/6spd, loved that truck except the awful headlights.
17 Silverado LTZ Z71 with 6.2/8spd, great truck but didn’t care for the 8spd.
18 Sierra Elevation with 5.3/6spd, good workhorse but the 6.2 was actually better on fuel
Got a 19 Silverado High Country now with the 6.2/10spd and I’m 100% satisfied. First 400 mile trip with it which included 40 miles of very rough dirt roads I got an honest to god 22mpg.
I’ve driven the newer Fords and Rams, I’m not a GM loyalist I just think they make a better truck. I really tried to like the Ram, tested a 17 1500 Limited for two days and was offered a smoking deal on it but ended up with the Silverado instead, the Ram was nice just felt gimmicky.
Great break out.

One more vote for the RAM. I love the 8 speed and 5.7 in my 2016. Best automatic transmission ever IMO. Thing shifts perfectly always, shit tons of power all over. 17 mpg. Blows me away.

There pretty nice trucks, a little out dated but can beat a 5y 100k bumper to bumper

I went with the 2019 Colorado. It will pull my boat or my 3-rail trailer and plenty of room.

Those are really nice for a guy that doesn’t need a big truck.

Do you do any towing? The 1500 with the 3.92 rear end is rated for towing almost the same as my 2000 F250 6.8L

Sorry, but no I haven't had the need. I just stuff dirt bikes or whatever in the bed so far. I do have 3.92 gears and the towing package with integrated trailer brake and all that but haven't had a need to test it out.

Well to be fair mine is a 2012. I'm sure improvements have been made, but I am just not sold on the EB. I wasn't aware of the oil issue in the newer 5.0s. That's a shame though. I am rather happy with mine, other than MPG.

We're running the 3.5 Ecoboost in some of our service trucks, no major issues on any of them yet. We run them on 5 year/120,000 mile replacement schedule. Also have the 6.2, 5.0, and a few 5.4 2 valve engines left. No issues on the 6.2's, the 5.0's had one loose the ECM. The 5.4's are pretty good except for the smoking during startup issue. We're going to be all Ecoboost within the next few years though.

Looking at new truck prices I could buy a brand new 2.7EB 4wd for what 2017 3.5EB's are on autotrader. I wasn't aware the gen2 3.5's held their value that well.

I just picked up a 17 ridgline. The features, comfort and ride quality sold me. Its so nice to drive. Awd. 280hp. Locking trunk in the bed. Flip up rear seats and the floor is flat underneath.

I averaged almost 29mpg on the 50 mile drive home with it.

If it averages close to 25 overall ill be stoked. Its rated for 21 mixed.

I need a truck, but i dont want to drive a truck every day. They suck to live with. This was the best compromise. Nice to live with every day, but still able to handle two bikes 2+ people etc etc.

If your like me and need the truck for smaller type jobs like home depot runs, and the dirtbikes this is a good choice. If you legitamately need to tow 10k lbs regularly this isnt it obviously lol.

That’s just a suv with a bed on it.
And also how isn’t a truck good to live with??

Parking, mpg, ride quality, etc etc.

Yes it is an SUV with a bed. Thats exactly what makes it ideal to live with. You'd have to drive it to appreciate it.

But also considering you thought buying that modified roached 97 7.3 was a good idea you might not appreciate what makes this ridgeline nice to drive.

Its not bad ass, its not massive, it doesnt have a huge front grill and beefy tires.

But it fits inside a parking spot, doesnt need a 4 point turn to get lined up, gets the same mileage as your ecodiesel without the diesel fuel prices, without the diesel maintence, without all the diesel emmissions bs, and without the complex diesel repair bills. Its a honda.

You probably use your truck to tow and haul real weight regularly. If you do, then you wouldn't be able to use the ridgline. But for me, most ill put back there is a weekend of gear, clothes, food, 2 bikes and 2 or 3 people. Itll handle that easy.

For working and using it everyday your eco diesel is a good choice if you are actually hauling real weight like 4k+ regularly.

Ford guy my entire life, but admittedly going to test drive a Ridgeline tomorrow. Parking a full size in LA proper is just a lesson in futility. Not to mention the mpg average.

Two features that are cool to me is the locking truck and how easily the seats fold up in the rear. Both really useful for me.

The ride quality is tops also. Let me know what you think of it!
