Just listened to the Rock River podcast on Pulp and thought it was great. One takeaway I was surprised by was that it could help teams if they could sell at the SX races.
What is the reason why Feld won't allow it? Chris & Christina said it could help bring in and/or retain sponsors...
Apparently, they had to get permission to give away items as long as they didn't give away hats or t-shirts??? I don't get it...
If you haven't listened to the podcast, it's an insightful one... I'm more of a fan of their team after listening...

Their merch is hideous!
Also I think for the right price a rider or team can buy a license and sell Merchandise.
I see the point of selling Merchandise but you also have to look at the person who did pay to have exclusive rights to hat and shirts etc.
This is not a pure case of Good vs Evil, it's Business.
That’s why..
Pit Row
Imagine Bob is having a garage sale. You have some tee shirts you want to sell and Bob agrees to let you use his driveway but only if you pay him $50 first. You'll need to sell a lot of tees to cover that $50, but you agree. How would you feel if Bob let his other neighbors sell tees to each other on his driveway also? Not only that, but they are arguably cooler tees and they are cheaper because the neighbors didn't have to pay $50? It's just business and all is fair.
This reminds me of the old conflict thing back when Chevy was the promoter but because Suzuki also made cars at the time, a stink got brought up from some ama rules about a series sponsor that conflicts with a manufacturer.
I honestly feel like this is more of a Monster issue then a Feld one. I can't stand Feld, between how they run things and talking to people who work for them they sound like a scumbag company. But they run the series, and I doubt sold merch on site would conflict with anything one their end.
Monster would be a different story. They obviously only want stuff sold that they are associated with.
Just my observation.
But I'm honestly shocked I have never seen companies selling hard parts to people on site. People go back and forth between the pits and their cars/hotels to pregame and dress up/down all the time between pit open and night show.
The merch is a tricky one because you start getting the legal contracted mess of licensing/promotional grounds.
But hard parts? There's gotta be a reason why it's not done. Maybe logistics and keeping enough on hand for their team/sponsored riders?
Yeah, it sounds to ridiculous to walk around with an exhaust and a few sets of wheels. But fork spring seats, mid valve sets, gasket/piston kits, ECUs, clamps, clutch kits, etc. All small items you can take to point b or keep in a backpack on you without being stupid cumbersome or heavy.
But it still isn't ok to cut income from all the teams and riders just because they feel like it. What world would that be where if you just pay enough money, you can do whatever you want, no matter how shitty it is.
Oh wait....
Still doesn't make it right.
