BIKE WEEK

Well Arizona Bike Week came and went and while we aren’t taking over towns or pillaging the community the ARIZONA TRAIL RIDERS Club kicked off the festivities with a Dual Sport Event—staging in the quaint town of Mayer.

You get quite the variety of bikes at this event and some folks had the big 990 KTM Adventure Twins.

You can see Frankie known as “EastCoast” on ThumperTalk unloading his bike. More on him later.

This made for an interesting obstacle.

Who put the Freaken LOG in the middle of the trail!
Turned out this is where we did some trail maintenance. Bill replaced a fuel line and I had a leaking clutch hydraulic cable with no fluid. If you can believe someone stopped who had some Magura BLOOD to help me out. He was with the California Dualies and came out for the ride. Thanks man!

Bill’s usual Sunday morning greeting…..

Being the Cheeze-Head he is Marko was thinking about COLD BEER…..

Pulled Pork sami’s with a side dish & drink was provided at D&K Service, a motorcycle Accessory Shop. They even had the Magura BLOOD I needed for my clutch reservoir. Turned out to be a good shop and was well stocked. If you’re in CottonWood pay them a visit.

Megan rode her KTM Adventure up from Mesa, then straight on the trail, she’s hardcore and a very skilled rider. She enjoyed the Lunch Break too.

Bellies full and ready to head out.

Ahhhhhh yes it’s Miller Time.

Don Hood and the rest of the ATR staff put on a great event. The next one is in Flagstaff in July and the National AZ Dual Sport event is in Payson in October.

For some reason EastCoast wanted to wear his dirt mustache back to town…… lol
Marko invited him over for some R & R so I gave him a ride down the mountain.

Frankie made it all the from Massachusetts but I was later told by Marko that the most scared he was, was driving down the hill in the Works Van. For some reason he kept looking back thinking his bike was gonna ragdoll down the highway at 80 mph. He was hanging on for dear life as I blasted the stereo to full tilt…...

This kid just turned 18 “EASTCOAST” as he is known on ThumperTalk wanted to explore the Wild Wild West and get outa “Mass Hole” otherwise known as Massachusetts. So he loaded up his trusty DRZ with as much cra_p as possible, welded on some highway pegs, filled up a HUGE Tupperware bin with spare parts, little money in his pocket and headed out. He documented the whole trip and if he’s still alive out there look him up on Thumpertalk.

This is the last I saw of him…..

That’s all for now—don’t miss the next one!

Great report Gary! I am still pissed that I didn't get to meet you when I was in Phoenix for the SX in February.

Thanks Trick. I have a 02 KTM EXC 520.
She's a good machine, rides like a Cadillac. Wouldn't mind upgrading to a newer 05 THRU 07 one day. This is my 3rd DS (first two were XR's) and the magic button is worth it's weight in GOLD!

I've owned it 2.5 yrs, 3rd owner and it has had a couple issues. Exploding a rear hub on a deadly single track trail was the most exciting one though..... We made it out of the cold DARK NIGHT---BARELY......W00t

It was SX w/e 2yrs ago and my buddy Jeff came out from Cal. He rode the KTM and I rode my CRF 450 along with some others. It happened on a hill climb, so after that we switched bikes as I am lighter it was my responsibilty anyway. We had to stop and tighten the chain about six times and the funnest part was crossing the river twice in January....It took four of us to drag her across.

Then some yahoo's going for a test drive in a truck got stuck in the river too, there was nothing we could do as we were scrambling for our own survival as darkness fell.

What happened was the bearing siezed up and exploded (sprocket side) and the hub was cracked (7/8 around). Some of the crack was big enough to stick a finger in. At first I was looking for a bush to stash her in as I didn't think there was anyway I could make it back. But we did, cold, wet and shaking like a leaf.

But once we were safe Jeff and I were laughing at it all.....lol

Word on the street or more appropriately "the trail" is they are no longer an item and no Tim wasn't there, he was moving out....Woohoo

But keep that on the down low, you didn't hear it from me.....Cool

Tim, I know you have said before you don't trail ride. Well if you ever venture out this way you can take the "Cady" or the 450 for a ride with us.

I think you might have a different outlook on trail riding after that....Woohoo
