Tablecloths? 360? Don't know what you're referring to with those. I just have always thought Reed was overrated. Credit for his longevity but titles are what really mean anything, just like in any other sport. He's got 2 titles which is good but puts him on a lower tier than several other riders.

Reed got his first title in his second year.
And Reed is overrated. What about Tomac?
In his 6th season, no title. KR? MM? Webb? Oh wait, everyone else on the gate!
And as a rookie, Reed got 8 wins and missed the title by 7 points. Name a better rookie performance.

Maybe you should find a sport you understand.

2 SX titles also puts him a tier above many riders.

Yes.
So is that the list? RD?
That’s the point. RD, a multi time champ.
Name some more.

Calling Reed overrated is nonsense.

"Calling Reed overrated is nonsense."

You got that right.

Chad has one of the most succesful SX seasons on record.

2004 the year he won his title he never finished off the podium and his worst result was a 3rd place, once. I don't care who you are, that's impressive.

16 Races
10 - 1st place
5 - 2nd place
1 - 3rd place

The only other guys that I can think of that had SX seasons without finishing off the podium are McGrath in '96 with an almost a perfect SX season (finished 2nd, once, and won every other race) and Carmichael in '02. There might be more but I can't think of any at the moment. I know Dungey was close one season finishing 4th, once.

Reed is definitely one of the all time greats.

As far as Rookie seasons go. Chads assignment was about as tough as it gets. Dude was up against the Ricky Carmichael at his prime coming off his best ever SX season. The guy who dethroned the king FFS.

Reed actually won more races than him. The only rider in history who might have done better in that situation is Jeremy McGrath had he been born 10 years later. But had that happened one or both of their careers would be nowhere near what they were. What other rider in their first could have actually dethroned Ricky at his prime?

He was literally only a few points in 4 seasons away from being a 6 time champion. Against Ricky, Bubba and RV. His first ~10 years were against guys who ended up on all times lists and he managed to put his name up there too.

How can a guy on so may lists who has been competitive for so long against so many guys be overrated? No one is calling Reed the GOAT. Just saying he has had an incredible career that has seen him sit 4th on the all time win list and he has beaten the guys sitting in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th on that list.

In Supercross Reed is above the majority of past champions. Obviously Jeremy is above everyone but I say Reed is in that second tier group along with James, Ricky and The Ryans. How you bust that group up comes down to emotion more than anything imo.

Now build a “fastest to 20 wins” list.

Or, “Youngest to win a title”

You’ll see that Reed’s accomplishments are not just about longevity.

I don’t think it comes down to emotion. I think RC is second, then RV, then Dungey, Stewart and finally Reed. I’d put Dungey above Stewart and Reed because he has 4 sx titles, and I’d put Stewart above Reed because a healthy Reed never touched a healthy Stewart.

True but when Chad was in his prime he was literally racing with the best racers that ever there a leg over a MX bike, no question! RC & JS and later RV, of course there is RD but imo that was really later and RD couldn't even beat RV. Just saying, to come out with 2 SX titles was impressive to say the least.

Never been a fan, but hard to argue with those numbers Reed has put up. Although I do think that RC and even RV would have some absolutely ridiculous numbers had they raced even just a few more years.

I don’t doubt that Reed is one of the all-time greats, or that there haven’t been races where he was unbeatable. His numbers and stats speak for themselves and his legacy is sealed. But he never beat RC for a title, and he never beat James for one when they both raced the entire series together. Same with the Ryan’s, Reed never beat them for a title in sx. I’m a Dungey fan more so than RV, but RV clearly had Dungey’s number in sx when they raced together with the possible exception of 2010. That, along with titles and wins is why I’d place the aforementioned racers ahead of Reed on that list.

The asterisk defense again...entire series blah, blah, blah. If you aren't on the gate you don't count. Doesn't matter who Reed didn't beat when they raced full seasons...point was he was there and they were not. And he didn't get popped for fuel (not Ricky's fault for sure) or a banned substance (yes James shoulda known better)

I said nothing about an asterisk, don’t put words into my mouth. Everything I said is factual and if you disagree, that’s fine. The problem is that some of you interpret that as “hate” or as insulting to Reed when nothing could be further from the truth. I already said he’s a legend and deservedly so.

Perspective is important... No-one beat RC to a premier-class title, James included. Nor did RD or James beat RV to a title that he completed. By the time RD won his three straight, Reedy was getting old and definitely pretty beaten up from the big crashes in 12 and 14...

He's beat all of his competitors and definitely been on the short end of the luck and/or bike stick throughout his career compared to his comp and is 16 points short of being a 7 time champ – 7 in '03 and won more races than RC as a rookie, 1 in '06, 4 in '09, 4 in '11 and fuck knows what could have been in 11 outdoors (Without Millville he walks it IMO) or SX in 12/14 where he looked maybe better than ever too.

Great career, especially when you consider where he came from and always on their turf.

What causes these exchanges are statements like, “ a healthy Reed never touched a healthy Stewart.”, which is false.
Then when someone refutes it, you redefine it.
And when you look at seasons, in 2011 Reed was 2nd to RV, 4 points back, but beat both Dungey and Stewart.

How many guys have more than 2?

Who has he:
A) raced but not beat straight up in a main...?

Cool not at some point finished ahead of in a SX title? RC and RV ?
