Besides personal health insurance , who helps the Average Joe when they get seriously injured?

For comparison purposes, i broke my leg and collarbone and the bill total is $130,000. 1 person can wipe out 1/3 of the funds. R2r isnt st judes.

I always thought your Declaration of Independence started with “we the people “? If you put politics aside, just try for a second, don’t you think paying 1 or 2% more in taxes so you and your fellow Americans(we the people) didn’t have to worry about being sick, getting hurt or just going to a Dr. would be a good thing?
I now have a good paying job and excellent insurance. I also purchase short term disability insurance. Have a plan in place whether you participate in a dangerous sport or not. Anything can happen.
Even if it's only 5k, that 5k would be more helpful to Joe than WP.

As to the OP....my understanding is that R2R is a private organization that defines its own charter and can therefore help whomever it deems worthy of receiving said help.
When I see at least $100k or more of extra vehicles on someone's Instagram page and then 10 posts later they are asking people to donate to R2R to help them out seems kinda shitty to me.
I've lived in the both the US and in Europe for significant periods of time. The 'we the people' mindset didn't seem to exist in the US. It was more of a 'personal responsibility' approach. I don't intend this to be a negative comment towards the US.. I'm just pointing out that many things that would fall under the 'we the people' category in Europe are frowned upon in the US. I believe this is a big reason why you don't see support in the US for a tax increase for healthcare.

For those who do have to pay out of pocket via at a discount through their employer, or through some personal insurance where they pay the entire premium, Whats the average cost?
To make it fair, can I ask what the average Canadian would pay on say, 75,000$ CDN in income tax as a single person?
Lets say in a state with state income tax, comibining all taxes together you paid 25% of your gross in income tax barring any wild deductions. That'd be about 19k give or take.
Because I have no idea, although i've heard statements from others before, approximately 50% for a middle class two income family in canada, lets just assume 32% in Canada for a single earner. Thats 24000.
Difference of 5000$/year, ~415$ a month. Are those in the states paying 415 a month or more for insurance on average?
I have no idea, I just made quite a few of these numbers up but the math would hold true barring the currency conversion ect ect. Ovbiously any difference in tax isnt immediately tied to health care, but from what i've seen in general, everything in Canada costs more. Fuel, Vehicle Registrations ect, even with the exchange rate as good as it is at the moment.
If folks are serious about post injury financial help, private disability policies are worth exploring, especially if you are the breadwinner for a family.
I will also say Americans would not be keen on rationing of healthcare. The average wait for an MRI in Canada is 11 weeks. Seeing a specialist takes a long time as well, etc. In the US you might wait a week or two for a routine MRI, but can usually get one immediately if needed. The horror stories of socialized medicine scare Americans, and there may be some legitimacy to it, some of it may be overblown. But Americans pay for that access, medical costs in the US are indeed out of control for many reasons.

That said, it came to a point that I had to decide how hard I wanted to run. I have a great job, in a position of leadership and 4 kids. It was time to back it down.
Anyone with the thought process of "I can't afford insurance" shouldn't be riding. Period. Everyone knows the risk and injuries are inevitable. If you don't have the means to protect yourself with insurance and the financial burden of medical bills, you need to find a new hobby. To look for financial support to subsidize irresponsibility is ridiculous.
The other insurance I was also referring to is short term disability and or aflac type coverage. Also always have at least 6 months of savings and try not to have debt. Now I can play with the dirt scooter without worry and go snowboarding if my knee is up to it.
This... Ken could easily stroke a 500k check or more without batting an eye. Why not use R2R money for someone way less fortunate?
