-My bike is a 2018 300XC which was bought this summer.....and I paid $8600 OTD with a title AND a license plate....MSRP is $9299...not EleVeN THouSAnD
-Reeds were fixed after 2017
-I dialed my bike in with the provided jets and needles
-Everyone who has ridden my 300 has nearly broken their zippers from the boner inducing ride
-Two of my bros are selling their current four strokes to go to a 300 after riding my bike
-My old man will be 70 in three weeks and has sold his 350 to buy one...it is that smooth and easy
-Cutting the head is not even in question for anyone that I know with the bike...pointless mod IMO

People are too lazy to take a day and jet their bikes correctly. They want to go online and ask Thunpertalk bros for ideal jetting specs. Sadly all bikes are different, as are riding conditions. The OEM Mikunis caught a bad rep because most guys do not know how to jet a bike or are too lazy to try different settings. Albeit the 2018’s were much improved base settings compared to the ‘17s

Suspension is bone stock, and have no plans on changing it.

This. I laugh at people that think the NEED this and that to make a bike "rideable". I have 50 hours on my stock reeds, installed a JD jet kit on my bike and left it stock, Think runs awesome.

In North America for 2019 the 250/300 XC-W (wide ratio) are TPI and PDS (which are basically European EXC) the 250/300 XC are with carburetor and linkage… price increase/difference carb vs TPI is $400,- not really a deal-breaker. KTM’s are overall great bikes however, I had over the years some issues with the gearboxes, I find them pretty prone.

I tossed a rktek head on my 18 tx300 and it’s a tank in the tight single track, even more than it was before. A gear higher lug no swear vs stock.

Herb, go ride a 17+ ktm or husky 300. There is a reason the rule the single track right now.
BobPA is spot on. You can walk in pay 11k if you want to for any bike. Dealers would love that!
I paid 8800.00 OTD. The xc air fork is every bit as good as tripple sss stock. I'm at 84hrs with zero major mechanical issues. I have had 3 yz250's, 2 cr250's and lots of 4 strokes. There are 4 new 300's in my group since I snagged mine. This is by far my favorite bike yet. Currently for me the 300xc is the best option but these manufacturers unfortunately don't pay me to ride. I'm hopeful Yamaha does show some love to their current 2 strokes. Ktm/Husky do need a Japanese competitor in the 300 class. I'd love to jump on a new yz300x with better brakes, hydro clutch, counterbalancer and some general updates stolen from the 250f's. I'd bet just adding those things the yz would be just as good. I'd bet that Yamaha is in the exact same price range as the 9,200 msrp or 11,000.00 thousand dollar KTM/Husky.

I have a strong feeling there will be a 300 coming from Yamaha and it will be a shut up and take my money kinda deal.

I believe a Yamaha YZ300X would sell like hot cakes. Add e-start and a wide ratio 6 speed transmission (maybe a hydro clutch?) and you have a blue KTM. But people would buy them no doubt.

The problem is, Yamaha sells every YZ250X that they make... and they are able to utilize low manufacturing costs due to the bike being practically unchanged for years. This is probably more profitable then going balls deep making a new bike and hoping people buy it over an orange one.
There is no glory in life unless you go balls deep in what you do! So let the ones you may have drop and make life happen!!

If I was getting a 300, it would be between a Gas Gas, TM or Sherco Factory Edition https://dirtbiketest.com/fresh-dirt/riding-impression-2018-gas-gas-ec-and-xc-300/ https://dirtbikemagazine.com/tm-300-2-stroke-full-test/ https://www.dirtrider.com/2018-sherco-250-and-300-se-r-review-first-ride https://www.bikesales.com.au/editorial/details/2019-sherco-250-300-se-factory-review-115239/

I honestly don't understand the "waiting for ____ to make this bike". I guess people have no idea how good the current offerings from KTM, Husky, GasGas, TM, Beta, etc... are.

Where did you buy your ‘18 300XC for $8600 out the door? I can’t find one for under $10k OTD here. I’d drive a long ways to get one for $8600. (Does your state not have sales tax or something? But even then OTD for less than MSRP on THAT bike is impressive!)

Two separate shops in Notheast PA offered the same price. Sales tax here is 6%. Title fee is $45 or so. I just looked at my pink slip and it was $8668 for the bike with taxes. The registration and plate were an additional $70. So more like $8750 with tag and registration. When I bought my bike, KTM was offering $1000 off or 1.9% financing on the 2018’s. I opted to pay cash and take the $1k off. They also offered me a leftover ‘17 for $200 less...but I opted for the orange frame and updates for $200.

It's rather simple for me at least. I like the YZ. If they made it in a 300 I'd buy it. I wouldn't buy those other brands for the same reasons I didn't buy their 250.

I get it if you're really glued to that one single bike platform I guess but then why not start with a yz or x and mod it into your perfect 300?

So your bike was $8k? That’s way under MSRP...no way a dealer out here would do that.

I think Yamaha even sells a 300 kit for their 250’s for like $700 (via GYTR).

But I worry how that would affect Jetting, Reed’s, etc etc...I don’t want to figure all that out. I want Yamaha to figure that out and sell me a 300.

Thought of doing it many times, but I really like my YZ being a 250. Having a 300 as a secondary bike would be nice, but it's not high on the priority list. I don't need to have one.

I have the TE and put the red power valve spring in when racing HS and swap it when doing extreme enduro. It’s amazing how much of a difference just swapping the PV springs can make.

The Mikuni carbs are fine.

The 2017+ 300 are light years better than the old chassis/engine

The 2019 TM motor is nothing like the one in the article. Electric start and counter balancer are just a couple features. Not to mention the power is very linear while still being very fast.

And deal with the 4cs forks? No thanks...worst forks ever? They’d be in the running.

No thanks...I’m not going to spend that much money on a bike and then have to switch the suspension based on riding conditions? That’s crazy to me.

Pretty found of YZ’s too, but DON’T mess it up making a 300! I rode one of the magazine project bikes with a big bore 300, it wasn’t so good. Had torque, but revved really slow and no top end. Worst 300 I have ever ridden. Obviously if Yamaha built it, it would be a better bike.

I have the TE and put the red power valve spring in when racing HS and swap it when doing extreme enduro. It’s amazing how much of a difference just swapping the PV springs can make.

What do you mean? I don’t switch my suspension. The power valve spring changes out in 30-45 seconds.

The 2019 TM motor is nothing like the one in the article. Electric start and counter balancer are just a couple features. Not to mention the power is very linear while still being very fast.

My issue with the TM (which I really think are great bikes) is that when I go to Rocky Mountain there is no bike option of TM...that is a deal breaker for me.

Then I must have misunderstood what you were saying...my bad. I thought you meant you switched out the air forks for spring forks. My bad.

14' Husaberg 300. Awesome for off road. The new counter balanced 300's are even better.
