CRF450L: Pssst, hey, over here, have you heard about Honda’s street legal Motocrosser?

Got there and took off of my Adventure Jacket that was loaded down with water, phone, 1st aid kit...etc. & dropped my TLD Baja tool pack at the "OB Pits brought to you by Bud Light"...and...hit the Vet track!
Like I said...this is a street legal MXer...ESPECIALLY when compared to other "Street Legal Enduros" that're on the market. It was waaaaay beer on the jumps than ANYTHING I've ridden that comes with a license plate...EVER.
I added 1.5 turns on the rear spring, 2 clicks of Compression and 1/2 turn of High Speed Compression (all "IN").

I see that plenty of people seem to think the EXC is better..or...funnier still...that the EXC has the SXF engine/power/gear box: that's really very funny!
Better yet, have you guys ever taken that EXC PDS Suspenion out on an MX track?
I own Husky FESs(Linkage, thank you!)...they're EXCELLENT off-roaders; but, this thing is waaaay more "Moto" right out of the box. The CRF-L shock and fork are Worlds BETTER than the stuff on the other bikes you guys are bringing up.
I can't wait to ride Honda's new "X".
Bring that thing out to LACR tomorrow and I’ll bring my EXC 500 (PDS) bike. Let’s put them to the test and draw our own conclusions....
you got my # Cool
I’ll be there at 8:00.

Yamaha is dropping the ball bigtime by not offering a 450 dually. I'm not even a huge Yamaha fan because of their ergos but a street legal wr450 would be my first choice because of the durability of their valvetrain.

Well, I guess I can find a way to bring the BOX STOCK CRF to compare to your KTM of Beverly Hills $30,000 “Enduro”...

You seriously cruised the 100% stock 450L to the track, then rode motos with it? Does it come with a trailer hitch so it can tow your massive balls around behind you or is that sold separately???

I'd be curious about longevity. The EXC-F's aren't exactly durable / setup for long term street usage, I'm guessing the CRF is the same. Though its a good option, there still and likely will never be a good MX'er and Street bike.

The L has its own engine (well, it shares it with the X).

I noticed that in the press release, but how different from the R is it? Just curious if it will really prove as a reliable option for street and dirt use. I know its got an electric fan, sprocket dampner, etc. but internals wise since its the same unicam design. Still a cool bike none the less as well as the 500 EXC-F's.

I'm considering the Honda or the Husky 501 and I'm waiting to see how much weight can be taken off of the Honda so it's in the ball park of the Husky. Out of the box the Honda is a PIG!

The Honda is like a DRZ 400 Supermoto or dual sport. A turd stock. Opened up, with a different exhaust and carb, not a bad ride.

For the money though, a dual sport kit for a race bike is better, or get the KTM or Husky.

Change my mind.
Having rode both (actually sell both) the Honda has far, far better suspension, especially potential for easy valving and tuning. It's not really that much slower. Also having needing it's major services @30 000 km is a game changer. I have a demo/test ride model, everyone has loved it. Ktm customers/fan boys just turn their nose up at it, it pretty funny actually, they all think its 26hp due to poor journalism.

Yeah he showed up, blew up all the berms and hit the highway home. Didn’t even take the extra 30lbs of air out of the tires before hitting the track.

Yup! The point was to take it straight from the street to the track. Having a place to "poach some pits" was priceless. After adding some clicks, it was virtually an MX bike with all the street stuff.

It was great getting to hang with you and your possie.

Shall we discuss the PARTS THAT DID NOT FLY OFF THE CRF450L that never EVER last on my other enduros?
Hmmmmm?

I’ve still got the license plate:

My gauge cluster still works and my Odo-Wire cable IS STILL ATTACHED:

Do ya wanna talk about “Blinkers”? Well, those of you that have ridden SERIOUS OFF-ROAD like Baja aka “PreRunning”, etc. ...well, y’all know your blinkers literally “Fly Off” in the Santa Rita Whoops.
Not the Honda’s!
(I have LITERALLY witnessed my FE-S blinkers FLYING OFF their stalks in Baja and at Pala on the Hillside Track while testing. That’s on 350s and 500/501s).

This thing is BULLET-PROOF and it gets Ridiculously Great Mileage. It takes nothing but just a little common sense to get over 50mpg on the road.

As for some of y’alls good questions: Yes! I will get to work and see “what weighs what” & I will go to work on making it lighter and faster. But!!! I’m gonna do everything in my power to keep it California Road Legal AND QUIET. The “quietness” of this thing is STELLAR.

The quality of the suspension is UNMATCHED in this class (STREET LEGAL ENDURO).

The Ti tank is simply “sick”. The stock pegs are the best I’ve EVER seen on a “STREETER”. The bars are an excellent “Moto” bend...I can feel them flex & that’s a good thing! The brakes are impressive BUT the additional weight of the “L” is a noticeable difference ESPECIALLY when braking for a turn...ON A MOTOCROSS TRACK Laughing man, I love saying that. I’m literally talking about TAKING AN ENDURO WITH A LICENSE PLATE STRAIGHT TO THE TRACK from the dealer.

Some things really are getting better.

That's almost XR600 territory... only in race trim this time... 40hp is enough for most folks at the vet track and in urban areas (terraces killer ; ) If you gear the 6th for highway use (overdrive) It’s an exculent bike for city folks as well. In general off road bike’s are very safe in traffic jam situations... you overlook all the cars whit eas.

It's limits to 90mph stock (doesn't want to let you go over 90).

I was able to roll with the high-speed-nut-jobs on I-5 South from San Clemente to Oceanside (75-80). I prefer 60-65, tho, which was easily doable in the right lanes.

Stock gearing is an excellent compromise between on-road and off-road. They REALLY sorted this bike out.

The only shitty setup on my ktm is the rear plate mounting. Comes loose constantly but blinkers don’t fly off.

I find the "lower 1/2" of the assembly with the plate still on it...on the trail...more often than you think. I take them to a friend at CHP & he returns them (he's a Moto dude).

Man that 26hp error must have really hurt Honda. I’m a KTM guy and I took great notice at this when it was announced, but the HP numbers and weight immediately turned me off.

Those losers on advrider had a field day with it that’s for sure.

Far as fire roading goes, the KTM 690R is only 40lbs heavier with 20hp more. 6.7lbs/hp:5lbs/hp. And a longer lasting engine. Buy one of those and a cheap 2 stroke for mx. End up with a worn out bike and disappointing lap times if you try to MX a DS bike. Been there done that. But that Honda suspension looks WAAAAAAAAAAAY better than EXC WP.
