Ben Watson's ride in moto 2 and those battling 250's was the highlight of the MXDN.
Did anyone on a 250 send it over LaRocco's leap during the weekend?

Many of the answers above - and I was very impressed with Tommy Searle, I thought he rode excellent in both races.

How some riders just rise to the occasion. For example, Coldenhoff, Paulin... Did Coldenhoff even podium this season? I think his best results was 4th, but I didn't follow all the races.

How lucky France has been lately. They didn't dominate but they found the top step again. (Same deal with the World cup, I don't know how they pulled that win!)

The US riders did not adapt well to the conditions.

The US team puts to much pressure on themselves to not lose instead of trying to win and after the saturday qualifying crashes and DNF were mentally F'ed up.

And to me it was easy to see who just raced last week and who last raced 6 weeks ago. Ferrandis was the only AMA rider who did not look like a shell of his normal self.

What stood out to me was that Herlings has a different riding style than pretty much all the US riders. I think it would be interesting to take a "Gary Bailey" type look and break his style down compared to guys like Tomac, Barcia, and Roczen. I'm not sure if it has to do with his body type or what, but he seemed to me to be positioned farther back on the bike and "flatter". He really never seemed to move around too much and really just maintained the smoothest, flowing lines possible (when he could). He carried a lot more speed overall. I'd like to see someone like Plessenger ride in a similar way (outdoors). I don't know that this style would work indoors but it sure works outdoors.

Vintage sandman style imo, just more aggression and desire. He kinda has some James in him where he has done some different stuff so maybe is looking for other things.

Another huge performance was Antonio Cairoli. Crashes first corner and looked like he took a couple of shots from other bikes and comes back to 6th place. Ditched his goggles with half the race still to go in moto 3 and somehow put on an epic ride to almost catch Paulin and win it for Italy. A true legend and I was cheering for them to pull it off just for his efforts.

I agree, I mean his rides were amazing. He seemed to hover over the sand and could get his bike going if he got slowed down better than everyone else.

Maybe him being 130lbs helped. I don't know but I was rooting for him!

I'd agree with the "sandman" style analysis. I think about the great sand riders and most always seemed to ride off the back of the bike, even in the turns... keeping the front end as light as possible. Herlings and Prado both rode on the back of the bike from what I could tell. Tomac seemed more "centered" over the bike to me...

Thinking about it... could this be part of the US issues with starts? Possibly too "balanced" when they needed more rear weight? Bike setup MXGP vs US could possibly play a role? I know in the past that US guys traditionally ran stiffer forks and suspension in general.

No question for me - Herlings last-to-third on Saturday.

A first-turn crash to third is amazing.

A first-turn crash followed by a trip to the pits for repairs and fresh gloves, then re-joining the race 60 seconds behind the last rider, THEN making it through to third was the best ride I have ever seen.

- Tomac is still a head case to pressure.
- Motocross Action Magazine is right.... KTM's are really the best.
- I actually thought USA had a chance, and then timed practice started.
- The myth is over....the Euros are really are on another level at MX than us.

- Team Puerto Rico's clutch B race victory! It was the only thing that kept me curling up in the fetal position and crying.

- Plessinger spent more time on his hair then riding these last few weeks.
- Never imagined you could make a chainsaw that frickin loud.
- 70,000+ people from all of the world can be together in the mud, rain, cold at a MX race and still have a blast!!

The fact that I didn’t really see anyone on the track give up and coast it in. Everyone was charging every lap. Nice change from a national.

What stood out to me was that KTM has a hell of a team and a hell of a bike. I know the starts and races are mostly the riders but those KTM's are rockets.

What stood out?

* I saw a guy (pun intended) with an expired drivers license trudging up the ski jump hill after the first moto.

* I was glad to see Herlings race for the first time. It's humbling to see greatness.

* I was looking for our team but they never showed up.

* The mud was pretty memorable. Stood out, even.

* I had to wear a pair of purple girls boots (the only thing that Walmart had left that remotely fit). It was humbling Wink

* My wife and I had a good time, in spite of Godzilla.

That it was fantastic to watch, I wasn't bored watching it for a single minute. Just a shame a few of the other fast mxgp guys didn't go.

Nice to see that Nagl still has the speed on that tm. Blew by Roczen, passed cairoli and Paulin easily, went over the bars early, crashed again later and still finished inside of the top ten.

Yes that's actually why they did it but to me it should have stayed. The south end of the track used to be way more complex and interesting in years gone by. It seems like ever since the 4 strokes have taken over they simplify the layout more and more.
