I've been working on aircraft for 42 years. Building them for the last 20 or so. I've flown on every military transport plane since the C-130...never had any concerns. The Air Force maintenance is unparalleled. FAA and EASA maintained aircraft are really safe. The rest of the world....enough said. These days the only aircraft I feel completely safe in are the ones I build. I'm an anal asshole when it comes to safety. Luckily, I'm the lead tech...if I don't like it...it doesn't fly...period.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, we can’t all fly around in aircrafts built by you.. lol
I’d take Qantas every time, I think they have a very good safety record and have a WA (working arrangement) with EASA, as does Japan’s Airlines which are part of Asia.

Lol...I hear you. Most 1st world countries have comprehensive build and inspection criteria. Japan is most definitely on that list. Just use common sense. The whole MXGP circuit would have been better served by pooling resources and chartering a big plane from a reputable company.

Well there’s an ignorant statement if ever I’ve seen one.

Sure there are plenty of dodgy Asian airlines, but I can also name 4-5 that I’d gladly step on in preference to some of the shitty ones in the US.
Exactly. You would expect a well educated person like a pilot not to exclude airlines from a complete CONTINENT.

Regarding the picture, has he been hanging out with Baker? Dude needs a cheeseburger or three.
He said in a tv interview last month he lost 10kg/22lbs just to have a better chance of the holeshot against flyweights like Cairoli. It doesn't seem to affect his strength though given his powerful performances in last laps.

I've gone off Qantas after they've had a few issues in recent years with budget cuts and some queer Irish fuck running the show cutting wages and jobs. Had some service issues when I had to fly with them too for work. Very happy with Virgin these days

Yep. I definitely cringed when I read that post.

Yep that poof running Qantas is a knob. Still operating 747's which are a cool plane but more worn out than the CEO's arse

Since everyone is chiming in. JAL and ANA are very good airlines and operate excellent equipment. Cathay and Singapore also. Cathay and Singapore may be asian owned but I would say 90% of their pilot seniority list consist of expats. This means a lot of different things.

One thing to be noted about asian airlines in general. They have a much different safety culture then what you would see in a US airliner. For example Asiana 214. It was the 777 that landed short and crashed at SFO. That flight deck had four pilots on it. Two of those pilots were senior Check Airman. The flying pilot was one of those Check Airman. He allowed the airplane to slow well below its approach speed, stall, and then crash just short of the runway. Not ONE of the other pilots spoke up to correct the unsafe speed. The NTSB determined this was due to cultural standards. Basically the other pilots didn't want to offend the Captain.

I wouldn't say never, but your odds are much lower of that not happening today on a US airliner. We have spent decades on developing CRM (cockpit resource management). Basically how pilots interact on the flight deck to promote safety and adherence to standards. The asian and middle east airlines have a much different approach to this. This isn't my opinion either. These are all verifiable.

Or Cathay Pacific, Korean Air and hell let's throw in Hainan based out of Beijing to boot. I've flown all of them and will again I'm sure. I'd rather fly Singapore air or hell even AirAsia than to be stuck in a AA,UA, or DL cattle class and treated like I'm headed to slaughter with a 17" wide seat and half a drink for a 4hr flight.

BTW Indonesia has been my top country I've visited so far. Man when it rains it does rain for sure.

You ain’t lyin... flew UA to Thailand last year because the price was good and I had not flown a 787 yet so I figured what the hell I’ll give it a shot. What a bunch of old battle ax fat ugly waitresses that were inconvenienced to bring me a beer after meal service and plain old ugly and rude. I am going to Thai and Singapore in November and I can’t wait to be on Cathay out of SFO this go round. Americans have no idea what it’s like to travel out of the US, good looking young staff that almost make it a challenge to come to your seat with your beer before you hit the call button ... all with a smile!

By the way I forgot how cute Indo girls are, I spent plenty of time on Bali, Sulawesi, java and Lombok a few years ago! What an experience!

I hate flying commercial. I'm very lucky to work for an aircraft manufacturer so I get to fly private most of the time. Having said that...never ever associate roomy seats, good service, and fine food with quality maintenance and airworthyness. Profit must be made...US airlines spend dollars on safety....others spend theirs elsewhere. Your choice. Personally, I'd rather eat a bologna sandwich than worry that money for fancy meals came from the maintenance budget.

The problem here is many people speak of what they do not know.
