Yes
I had the frame made and installed the poster myself but was unable to make it 100% flat? There’s still some areas that are wavy not sure if the pros put something flat behind it to make it wave free?

There are different types of adhesives used to mount large photos on boards and then framed.

Photo credit is in lower right hand corner. Your frame is probably covering it up.

Out of curiosity, who currently owns the copyright? You or Oakley? The poster obviously makes it look like Oakley does, but who currently owns it would depend on the contract signed and what the terms were, yeah?

I own the copyright. I know what the poster looks like but as the photographer, I own the image. The moment a photographer (even someone with their camera phone) clicks the shutter and creates an image, copyright is theoretically given to the photographer. Beyond that, a photographer can register a photo with the Library of Congress for "official" copyright, which I have done with this image.

I understand all that, and shouldn't have focus on the actual copyright so much as the licensing terms. You're also welcome to tell me that the terms are none of my business (and you'd be right); I'm just genuinely curious how a deal like this (Oakley using your photo for their ad) is typically structured (not asking about $$ amounts).

Hi RH Lake, do you mean the newspaper? The Oakley highway billboard shot ran on the cover of the newspaper before we were a magazine...

What I learned from all this is that silly details like copyright don’t matter, and old photos are less valuable than new ones.

The good / bad thing about the internet......if you see a picture you like and want it for free , you can , just don't tell anyone else. The picture in question , is no doubt a great picture. And hopefully the guy who took it ( that chimed in here ) got some good money out of it.

I ended up buying a couple of the RC posters from Dave at dmsphoto in great condition. I couldn't find my original RC poster that I got when RC came to Gatorback during the Winter ams I think it was and rode lap after lap as the gate dropped for a bunch of amateur classes. It was pretty cool at his peak. He parked right next to us and asked if I wanted one and pulled it from behind his seat in his truck and signed it. I thought it was in the attic but couldn't find it. Thought it was gone. Merry Christmas I found it in an old surf board bag. Nice.

Hey guys... I know the back story behind this photo between the lawyers, etc... But I'm really trying to get my hands on a copy of this iconic Oakley poster of Ricky Carmichael or even a picture (minus the Oakley logo if necessary).

Does anybody know the photographers name that shot it or how to get in contact with him?

Even better would be if anybody has a mint copy of this poster they be willing to sell me?

It's a long shot but I thought this would be the best place to inquire!

I have the black and white Oakley poster. Brand new in the box. Make me an offer
