Kenworthy's MX?

Does anyone know why Kenworthy's does not host a national anymore? Did they do something wrong? Was it because they had issues with flooding? Was it because they are in BFE? Does anyone know anything about Kenworthy's at all? Thanks in advance for any help.

Glad they did. That was an outdoor SX track. Thunder Valley offers more varied terrain, and it ruts up HUGE.

I have heard that people thought it was an outdoor SX track. The racers did not think that though, they said it was definitely an MX track. Does anyone have any real info on why they sold the rights and what the reasoning was?

lack of people to see the races. it was out in no mans land. poor spectating.couldnt see anything because it was flat as a board. i went once to the ken mx,never went back. it sucked....

Some riders also thought it was an outdoor SX track as well.

Been off schedule for last few yrs; why ask now?

I don't know about lack of people. The crowd was always huge. No mans land??? C'mon, most of them are...for good reason.

I have heard the main reason was the riders were getting tired of the track and some never did like it. AMA suggested some changes and the Kenworthys family were reluctant to change for many years. They finally did run it backwards in 04 and changed the track quite a bit, but I think deal was already sealed.

The flooding in 03 was just the nail in the coffin.

It was a sweet track for amateur racing, The prep work was primo. That track always had big ruts, big braking bumps and many lines.

I was out in that area the other day and I was wondering what happened and I was wondering if it would be possible to get a national back there again at some point in the future. What would it take? New drainage, new track, etc....It would save me a 4 hour drive to Red Bud!

Not true Drummer ( the lack of attendance). Kenworthy's had crowds in excess 20,000 repeatedly - right up to the end.

Flat - yeah, mostly.
But not poorly attended.

Southeast has zero Nats from Texas to Colorado and Budds while the Northeastern part of the US has like 5 Nats...

Even with compressed Nats in Northeast; normally you always comeback west anyways and go back east.....

Lots of us liked Gatorback and either it or somewhere closer where lots of Floridians, Georgians, etc have their own Nat.

Hope it happens for you guys...

The floods were the reason why they pulled the plug (no pun intended). It flooded twice in one year and they had to cancel that round from the schedule. As far as the track, it was a flat piece of land, but the jumps were massive. It was a fun track to watch. The problem IMO was that all the spectators were forced to watch from the inside of the track. The outside of the track was wide open to allow for medic personal to get to the site quicker (that is what they told me). It is a great idea, but having 20-25k fans inside instead of 10-12k on both sides makes the viewing nearly impossible while standing 20 feet from the viewing fence. The pro pit area was centered in the middle of the pits and was blocked off by 15 foot fence. They had a band that played at the edge of the property but when everyone was throwing full cans of beer in the crowd I said screw this!

The flooding didn't help, but, Kenworthy's was under pressure to improve the infrastructure to support the big rigs, spectator parking, etc.

In the end, when the AMA decided that they needed to expand outside of the PA-Ohio corridor (Troy-High Point-Steel City), Kenworthy's took the buy out money from Colorado and ran.

It was a good track to ride, not watch with a heavy crowd. The place was famous for a wave of fans running from one fence to another so they could see the leaders go by.
