the motos/heats and make the last race 12 minutes plus 2, the shortest of the heats. The intensity would be off the hook. I like how Prater and the folks are trying things up.

That's a great idea. Maybe they could also take out makeup to mud and actually broadcast the LCQ's as part of the night program rather than right after qualifying. One can dream right? Wink

I wouldn't mind seeing this at the last triple crown of the year to see how it plays out.

The shorter races have become the most exciting since the cream doesn't have as much time to rise to the top and overcome a bad start. Given enough time the riders with the lowest lap times will mostly end up in front.

I like that you are thinking outside the box with ideas, and the concept has merit. Let's take it a step further, how about 5 motos of 6 minutes? Huh

Yeah, the last races would be nuts.

I still don’t know about the Triple Crown. I loved it and flew to Vegas for the MEC because of it.

But in a points race, I kind of like the “reading of a book” style with the build up and an easily recognized hero at the end.

Can the series stand all those main events type starts. I know the passing is less intense near the front in a heat, I wonder about the start intensity difference. There must be a little less panic in a heat race start.

Heats are for qualing, riders tend settle in but the main, 1/3 of it anyways makes for more cutthroat.

20+1. Triple Crown is stooooooopid.
3/5/2018 4:14pm
Quadruple crown with four 8 Minute +1 lap mains.

But seriously, I think it would be interesting to see the shortest race last. That would shake things up!

Just curious how these 3 races would hit you?

Quarterfinal
Semifinal
Main

Still 3 races, but a full field in the night show, and no calculators needed.

They should run the track backwards on the second race and make the riders balance on a little ball while juggling. Maybe have the announcer in the middle of the track with a red & white pinstriped suit and a big bullwhip. Oh I know; they should have a flaming hoop to jump through at the finish line too. Oh wait, that one is almost true already.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Supercross wasn't broken. No need to fix it.

Better than the triple crown. I think we should try:
Heat
Semi
LCQ
Main

I like that they're trying new things, and even the reverse race order could be cool. Whatever they do, they need to figure out how to name it. If you're going to race a 3 moto format like LL, don't call it 3 main events. That sounds so stupid and makes parts of the broadcast confusing. Put simply, and I think this is why some people don't like it, if you have 6 "Main" events, you have no Main Event.

"Brayton has never won a main event, and he's about to win one, but not really, but kinda."

Similarly, I cringe hearing the commentary on the history of the sport regarding 125/250 and now 250/450. "Jeremy McGrath won the 450 Monster Energy Supercross title..." Oh really, he did?..the circus continues. And I'm still watching.

Are we talking about the same thing just adding an LCQ? I don't want to see anyone go straight to the main, gotta race 3 races. No use for an LCQ, knockout makes for more drama.

I like the Triple Crown, but don't want all of the races to be this format. I'd like to see maybe half Triple Crown and half the old format. Variety is good.

Yes and for the final race they could just release the running of the bulls into the stadium floor and the last man standing wins!!! Seriously this triple crown is a joke! Way to much risk for the riders with no reward! 20+1 is how the winner should be decided...

Yes. Not an all or notthin'. Speaking of variety, I'm zeroing in on this blend:

(3) Triple Crown
(3) Doubleheaders (2 moto format)
(Rest) Old Format - Barry White "style" Never Gonna Give You Up

Triple crown - meh, I don't like change.

I can't wait for the next 20 minute + 1 main event where Tomac holeshots, wins by 10 seconds, Marvin comes through the pack to get 2nd and Anderson protects his points lead with a solid 3rd place.

Can we please have more practice races, they are really awesome. They are better and way more exciting than point scoring races.

No, I actually prefer the traditional format. The three main events take away from the excitement for me. Everything has less impact because of averaging the three finishes the third race causes people to lay up if they are in a good position for the overall. Heats, Semis, LCQ, and Main Event. That's what's going to put the most racing on my TV in a 3 hour period. I don't care what it's for, as long as they are on my TV and racing. You want short races for excitement, the Semis were pretty short.

Heat, LCQ, Main = 8 races 4 per class (3 for slow guys, 2 for fast guys) non TC format '18

LCQ, 3 Motos = 8 races 4 per class (4 for slow guys, 3 for fast guys) Triple Crown

Heat, Semi, LCQ, Main = 10 races 5 per class (4 for slow guys, 2 for fast guys) old format

Quarterfinal, Semifinal, Main = 7 races 1 class (3 for fast guys) really old format

LCQ's and Semi's are a filler that require the slow guys to be more tired for the Mains. Fake Race.
2 Classes is more filler, most of the riders are the same talent. Fake Race.

I have been watching SX for over 20 years and have never been so thrilled than I was watching ATL Triple Crown in person. Best racing ever, imo. I was on the edge of my seat for each race... 6 motos, 6 different winners... throw a blanket over those 1st 6 racers in the first Moto... fantastic racing!

Not sure why anyone likes regular format over Triple Crown... the 20+1 idea is boring as crap. Let’s see how many times Tomac can lap Reed sounds like a blast. That’s just boring as crap. I’d rather have a full on scrap every lap rather than falling asleep because the leader has almost a full lap lead on 2nd or 3rd.

Well said. Both TC races had much more intesity.
The 20 lap mains are snoozers most of the time after the first lap or so. More triple crown races!

The "triple crown" encourages riders to settle in the last race. What should be the most important race of the evening isn't. Wasn't it thrilling to watch JA let riders go by without a fight because he didn't need those positions to keep the overall win. The night show should be set up so that each race builds in intensity. It shouldn't peak an hour before the end. Both triple crown races this year peaked part way through the second moto.

^ This.

Frank, it's good to have another Austin boy. As always, with online "stage names" I seldom know if it's someone I know in real life?

Hey Myersdork, I've busted your balls prior to Big Lenny, EID, Orvil and a bunch of others. I am going to admit your post's of late are actually the most worthy I've seen in years.
Keep up the good work
