I've watched the WMA class race around the same track on the same day as the pros. Ashley and Jessica are certainly good riders, but they are nowhere near the speed of even the 40th qualifier. It's something like hoping Nate Adams can make a night program.. it should work out in theory, but reality isn't so pretty.

With out totally analyzing the results, based on fastest lap time looks like she'd get between 24-30th place in the MX Lites Pro Sport A class.
Now I'm not saying she can go and make a national. But, I love how that guy compared women racers to 50cc racers.

I absolutely think a women will make a Pro National. Maybe not in the next couple years, but it will happen.

With the wonderful payouts most of your fastest 2nd tier racers don't even bother with the nationals so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened eventually. No disrespect to the WMA riders they are fantastic.

As far as the question, I say a simple NO--no women will ever qualify for a AMA Motocross National. FUGHETABOUTIT.....
The first step would be for girl/woman to go and win a prestigious Amateur National event (LL, Whitney, etc.) in the "regular" Intermediate class
Has that happened before/recently?
I've watched all the "current crop" race and I don't think any of them could win (or even run up front) at an Amatuer National in the Intermediate (Novice??) class, let alone the Expert class....

When people were writing about this girl from the UK, I mentioned 16 year old Sayaka and how good she was. She is very fast and would kill most of us here on the board.

She was at StarWest on Sunday and I have to say she is pretty fast. I have seen all the big boys at the same track (RV, Hill, Lawrence, Wiemer, etc.) and she does not have their speed, but she can definately ride. Give AF a run for money... in a couple year... maybe, but not yet.

Somebody mentioned a while back that Dorene Payne had qualified for a National MX in Colorado or something. This would have been in the early to mid 1980's. I've heard this mentioned several times before, but have never seen solid proof of it.

It won't happen.. Maybe, maybe - at southwick, as being in the unseeded lites practice is a huge advantage (on saturday, when racing was sunday) but even then its a stretch. I think girls had a better chance when they held pre-qualifier races instead of the fast lap to make motos, as then it plays into being a good racer, good starter; but theres just about anyone who can put in a wonderlap. But now that the program is moving to Saturday, 1 day, and 250fs are going after the 450s, it 100% wont happen.. The tracks will just get 2 rough and Ive yet to see a girl ride a 450 at a speed to make a fast 40 at a national.

If she lines up to run a National this year then we will know if I am right or not.

Ashley has what only some racers have, something that doesn't show up on a lap chart....determination.

Some people assume that because she has a (womens) Pro License, she can line up with the guys at a Pro nat. and try to make the top 40. I do not know if this is the case. There is a fast track (without those results) and that is basically, they can sign off anyone they want and allow a license to be issued. I was going to be monitored at Budds Creek on amateur day and evaluated whether I would get a "pass". Never made it there...

One other thing - you have to race to get in the show this year. Timed Q'ing is out. (Last I heard)

At Oak Hill last year AF was off the pace of the A class by about 16 seconds a lap. The last place A rider had times around 7 or 8 seconds a lap faster than she did.

Sarah lives a 1 mile from our pratice track. And yes Sarah is a great person. As far a what I think I doubt she cares but truth be told Even her father agrees that there is not a woman out there that can come close to making it into a mens Pro National in the USA. If the Woman want to race a Pro mens race then Canada is the answer. The top 4 girls in the WMA can make it into there program no problem.

I am not bagging on the WMA riders that are great but you without a doubt have never seen Ashley or any other top WMA rider on a track with any fast B rider let alone a top A/Pro rider. The speed difference is undeniable. Determination cannot overcome lack of speed and the strength it takes to ride at a men's Pro national level. If Ashley ran the A class at a big local race with a 20-30 rider gate the only riders that she would beat are the guys that DNF.

There are alot of people that live 1 mile away from me but that doesnt mean I actually do a fricken thing with them. Do you really RIDE with her? I have seen her at multiple tracks now that she is out here in SoCal and was wondering where you and her ride together. That was your comment, no?

Theres more than enough evidence to prove that the top women do not have the speed of the men on a national level, no question there. But your comment was more about degrading them into a "dog and pony" show, then comparing speed or am i misreading your comments?

I would think that Sarah would care if someone she "rides" with thinks that her career choice is nothing more than a "Dog and Pony" show and that "it is and ALWAYS WILL BE." Next time I see her at the track or at Panda Express I see her at, she goes to the one in Murrieta just off the 15 and Clinton Keith, I might just ask her about her "Dog and Pony" show sport, since you seem to think she would not care what a ridding buddy thinks.

I once raced against Mercedes Gonzalez at Indian Dunes in the 250cc Intermediate class and she went pretty good, but she was by no means a National pro...no way, no how.....
As far as the question, I say a simple NO--no women will ever qualify for a AMA Motocross National. FUGHETABOUTIT.....
The first step would be for girl/woman to go and win a prestigious Amateur National event (LL, Whitney, etc.) in the "regular" Intermediate class
Has that happened before/recently?
I've watched all the "current crop" race and I don't think any of them could win (or even run up front) at an Amatuer National in the Intermediate (Novice??) class, let alone the Expert class....

If the Woman want to race a Pro mens race then Canada is the answer. The top 4 girls in the WMA can make it into there program no problem.

Theres more than enough evidence to prove that the top women do not have the speed of the men on a national level, no question there. But your comment was more about degrading them into a "dog and pony" show, then comparing speed or am i misreading your comments?

I would think that Sarah would care if someone she "rides" with thinks that her career choice is nothing more than a "Dog and Pony" show and that "it is and ALWAYS WILL BE." Next time I see her at the track or at Panda Express I see her at, she goes to the one in Murrieta just off the 15 and Clinton Keith, I might just ask her about her "Dog and Pony" show sport, since you seem to think she would not care what a ridding buddy thinks.
You rally got this twisted. I said a WMA rider trying to make the Pro show would be a dog and pony show. I never mentioned anything about the WMA being a joke. Its a great series with super fast woman racers. The dog and pony show statement does not apply to Sarah. The dog and pony show applies to any woman that really thinks that they could get on a men's national gate. As of right now there are only 2 WMA riders that have no sense of reality. JP and Ashley. Sarah has a pretty good sense of reality and knows where she stands speed wise vs the pro men riders. Sarah will be riding with her Brother at a track near you this weekend. Go seek her out and tell her and her brother Terry that Dan said that she could not qualify for a men's national. They will laugh at you.
