Just look up bundy built. He started his own shop was at JGR prior. He builds the cycle trader Yamaha motors.

If I were buying a new 250f, I'd go with the Honda.
The YZF has an awesome engine and suspension, and would be my second choice.

Yamaha hands down. Best engine in the class (IMO of course), Best suspension in the class, and competitive weight.

They have a really good contingency program as well ($300 rebate just for buying the bike and signing up).

Yoshimura builds the Cycle Trader engines, you're thinking of Trader's Racing Yamaha for Bundy.

If price is the most important factor for you... go for it. But it's gonna take you some money to tune that motor and the resell is also shitty. So yes, you pay less but you'll also get less back into your pocket when you sell. Especially when you do motor mods because nobody wants to pay extra for that.

I am also in the market for a 250f, I don't care if it's slow, I just care about durability. I plan on keeping the engine stock except for a pipe. Has anyone had a newer 250f that has regular oil and filter changes, not ridden it like Barcia on coke and still had valve, crank, or other engine problems? Found a few 17 leftover CRFs and RMZs around 5k, wondering if anybody can vouch for their durability or lack thereof.

Yes, a ton of 2017’s left over. I’ve seen leftover 16’s and 15’s. Like you, I don’t have to have a Supercross/National ready engine. As long as I can mod it with a pipe and re-gear I’m cool with it. However, if they can get me an 18 model at around 6300.00 I’ll get the Yamaha.

Yeah I'm on my 2nd YZ250F and just ready for a change. The haul ass though and go through whoops really, really well. After reading around on the interwebs all day it seems like the latest gen RMZ250s are pretty reliable, so I am gonna try for one of them to see if the cornering is all it's cracked up to be. If one if those gorgeous KTM 250XCs doesn't win me over first that is.

I was on the fence between Honda and Yamaha. I ended up going with Yamaha. I think the engine will suit me better. Considering nothing changed this year besides the blue wheels in which I am not the biggest fan of anyway. So I just went with a leftover 2017. Win win! same bike, saved some cash, and avoided the blue wheels. The only negative thing I see is that the 2019 yz250f will be all new, and Honda obviously just released the new generation, so the Yamaha will most likely lose more value buy this time next year. But whatever, we all know new bikes are pretty bad investments haha

Serious Question..... Does anyone think a 2016 YZ250F is an all around better packaged bike than a 2017 or 2018?
It seems when Yamaha slightly changed the frame and suspension settings in 2017 the magazines, Vital, etc became less enamored with it and since the reviews have been more mixed. It seems everyone loved the 2016 year bike?
I have seen numerous left over 16 YZF's as well. There are always left over RMZ's.

You know a couple years ago I had the same thought. Never owned a Suzuki and thought I'd give one a try. I did enjoy riding it as it turned like no other. However, after the idler gear shattered and I had to replace the cases I decided I was done with yellow. Only 250f I've ever had any type of catastrophic failure with. I went through the whole engine before selling and a friend ended up buying it. It always had one weird issue or another that wasn't maintenance related.

I really doubt anyone posting is going to have significantly different lap times on any newer 250f. I have no real brand favorite(maybe a little Honda) and currently bought two 17 KX250F's since for $4995 you can't beat the deal. Really good bikes all around especially for the price..........(they feel like a Honda).........

Get the spring conversion kit. Whole different ball game. The engine wakes right up with a Full Yosh, go to the lean coupler, and going up to a 50 tooth rear sprocket. 98% of the Vitards in this thread can't even ride this bike to it's full potential. It's comical hearing people say is sucks. There's no such thing as a bad mx bike these days....(the air forks due suck balls though.)


Also, they're bulletproof.

The 2016 YZ250F did win the shootout. Hell, I think it won most shootouts 5 years in a row. It’s been on the podium the last 2 years.

The way I look at it, a brand new bike is a brand new bike. It’s worth is what it is worth to you. I get a new bike every two years anyway. If you maintain the bike well and spend a couple hundred bucks on new plastic and tires when it’s time to sell, it will make you that 200.00 back and then some. If it looks new, you’ll get more money out of it.

I’m picking up a 2017 RMZ tomorrow for 4900.00 dollars. I’ll re-gear it and throw on a Yoshi pipe and be just fine. I’ll still be 1500.00-2,000.00 better off than buying a 2018 Yamamaha or Honda.

As far as I know they haven't changed the frame at all from 2014+. They changed suspension setting between 2016 and 2017 and that's what some shootouts said pushed it back.
