I have a track that’s about 1.2 miles long. Mostly sand. When it rains it’s the greatest thing ever but the sand makes it hard to maintain. Spring riding is best but the time, diesel, and weed spray adds up to keep it decent!! My wife would tell you one of the best “investments” we’ve made. If I had to load up to go ride, we’d never get to go. But the ability for my son and i to ride for 30 minutes after work/school or two hours on a weekend is quick and easy. And my wife can sit on the back patio and watch! Totally worth the time and effort to have it in the backyard.

More is never enough lol. My track a mile long on about 12 acres.

It really depends on what type of track you want and if you want lanes close to one another. Oh, and if you want to get a water truck around it.

I love seeing peoples private tracks, proffesionally built or amateur doesent matter.

I am in the progress of building my own track now that will be finnished this summer (i have 1.5 meter of snow now here in sweden) and it would be nice with some inspiration from others.

I'd look into city and town ordinances too. They passed a law in my local county that requires 5 acres minimum for off road vehicles. Just something to consider.

Private tracks are the best!!!

I have a corner track laid out on about 4 acres. I would be nice if it was bigger, more elevation, and had more jumps but it is enough to get me and my boy some convenient practice. I have the most important ingredient that makes a good track. . . Good dirt!!!

Thanks for sharing, some really cool backyard tracks here! The Kingman track is something out of the old "fox dream on" advertisements. Wow! Motomojo that's a beautiful track you got there. I've driven the I-40 right thru that area and what a sweet place to ride! Congrats all your hard work looks worth it!

Here's a short video of mine. It has a little elevation just to make it fun but it's hard to see in the video. I built it in a 25 acre horse pasture. I planned it out over a few years. Rented a Cat D5 dozer for 1 week to clear the land build the track. Spent over $300 just in gas for the dozer. As others have stated it seems awesome from the outside but the work, money, and time required to keep it up is insane. My track being sand requires a ton of water. I'm currently looking for a water truck but the price on those will shock you.

Thx yes worth every minute. I figure if you are going to commit to something this big go 100% and make it awesome. second track is in the works. still have some work to do cutting the lanes outlined in white and
the location of the lake/reservoir between the tracks which i am working on at the moment. There is also a vintage track that uses parts of both bypassing all the big hits.

I took a min to outline the tracks so they would be easier to distinguish Yellow is track one blue is two and red is the vintage.

Yeah, this is a HUGE issue in many areas. Grading permits, move too much dirt and get fined, runoff issues onto neighboring properties, noise laws, dust problems. The list goes on and on. I had neighbors in CA file with the county that I had moved too much dirt around. County inspected me - inspector's brother used to ride with Malcolm Smith so we shot the $hit for an hour, and he said "looks good to me" and left. But I had a pissed off neighbor anyway.

Then there is liability - either from people you allow to ride, or someone that sneaks onto your track and gets hurt. I actually had someone sneak onto my track while I was at work - wife called and asked if I had come home to ride w/o telling her!

My minimum is 10 acres. Need room for a house and shop, and at least 5 for a track. Anything smaller is not worth the work IMHO. And my next bike will be an Alta so no one knows I even have a track.

Here in sweden it is pretty much illegal to have a private track. You would need permission from the police and all different authorities. If one person find the sound offensive it would be shut down in one
second.

I am really jeallous of you guys who can have full size private tracks.

Lot of potential there. Need to till in some sawdust and maybe clay, and spend a couple weekends with a skidsteer and you could really build it sweet. Water was always a problem for me in CA. Even a small track can suck up 20,000 gal really quickly. Yours would take double that easy. All you need is a lottery win so time and $$$ are no longer an issue. Smile

Living in Michigan and riding in Florida in the winter I ride a lot of sand tracks so I like the sand. I wanted a practice track that would make me a better rider so I was less worried about jumps and more about the different types of turns. I added the jumps just to make it fun still. I like the track rough for practice so I don't need a lot of grooming. This video was the first laps on the track after I finished it. The table is a 95' uphill with a 20' elevation change although the video doesn't show it well. As far as water goes I have a spring fed 2 acre pond on the property so water wont be an issue once I have a reliable way to spread it. I guess that's where the lottery comes in. Everyone that has ridden the track has really liked it, but I already have a few ideas for the next re-design.

You ever out to Coops in the summer? Track looks like it has a lot of potentional. My buddy has a deep sand track in Adrian. Softest sand I have seen in Michigan.

I have that issue as well. Water where and how. Up to now i have just been depending on the weather which is great when it rains but you can't just ride anytime you want at least if you want it moist.
I am in the process of building a lake/reservoir to be able to water when i want.
Will use a truck for some of the track (yet to get that) but the big hills will have to be sprinklers or fire hoses no way to drive a truck up those hills and cutting a truck lane is just way too much work in this terrain.
Stocking the lake as well as i like to fish and what a nice place to cool down after a hard ride.

I'm a perfect brownie mix kind of guy. I like a mix of dirt, sand and sawdust. Makes good ruts and holds water well. I'm old now so I also want perfect grooming and traction that never stops, and a soft landing for when I crash. Smile I also like big bowl turns, small whoops, and safe tables. That's the cool thing about having your own track - you can build what you like and hell with anyone that doesn't like it. I always shoot for a mix of outdoor and supercross styles. I would usually do a rebuild each Spring and change stuff up. Its pouring here today and the track is basically a pond. It will be April before I can put a dozer out there w/o sinking it.

I have an old hand-dug cistern that I dropped a pump into. I run that to a 1500 gal tank, and have a gas pump off that that pressurizes a lot of 3" PVC. Then I use fire hose off of that to water. My current track is pretty small on 3+ acres so I can reach it all. Still takes a good hour+ to water.

I'm not gonna question anyone's financial position but to have a track, the size as some of you guys have here, in the UK, you would need to have very deep pockets. Even if you had the money, getting permission from the local authorities would probably never happen, due to noise and greens moaning about the environment.

I noticed you had a lot of nice trees scattered around i would look at an aerial shot and work more of them into the design for turns and trim them up head high gives the track a nice landscaped look.
Plus there is always nice dirt with much organic material around the trees

I'm not gonna question anyone's financial position but to have a track, the size as some of you guys have here, in the UK, you would need to have very deep pockets. It's really hard to see in the video but my primary focus was using as much of the natural terrain and elevation changes in the track as possible.
