Might still be on Netflix. Not underrated, but not widely popular due to a limited release. It's a real good watch.

Another one worth checking out. British film, not sure how much action it saw at the US box office.

“Israel is still officially at war with Lebanon, and when two states are at war it is normal for them to take certain measures against each other,” he said. “Lebanon, or certain sectors in Lebanon, have recently realized the dangers of cultural and academic normalization with Israel . . . after this whole Arab overture to Israel.”
Star Wars = Jumped the shark.
American History X = brilliant flick in a long list of GREAT films starring Edward Norton. Seriously, go back and watch a few Norton movies and marvel at the level of quality of films he's been involved in. (Primal Fear, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Rounders, Fight Club, Am. Hist. X, The Score, Death to Smoochy (seriously), 25th Hour, The Illusionist, Stone...)
Brawl in Cell Block 99 = Had no idea what I was going to watch. Didn't love it. No interest in that gener.
Downsizing = the premise had excellent potential, but the plot fell hard on its face. Would've been much better as a premium TV series where more of the storylines could have developed. I left the theater feeling a bit robbed.

With this info in mind, I decided to take a look at some of the notable releases so far this year and see if they've made a profit using this standard. But do keep in mind that just because a movie is set to make a profit doesn't mean that the studio is pocketing every cent of said profit. There's a lot more to it than that, but I have to be fairly general considering a lot of details (outside of the production budget and potential marketing budget) are not often leaked for movies.
Paddington 2
Release Date: January 12, 2018
Budget: $40,000,000
Box Office: $196,300,000
2.5x = $100,000,000
Profit = $96,300,000
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Release Date: January 26, 2018
Budget: $62,000,000
Box Office: $184,000,000
2.5x = $155,000,000
Profit = $29,000,000
Insidious: The Last Key
Release Date: January 5, 2018
Budget: $10,000,000
Box Office: $156,000,000
2.5x = $25,000,000
Profit = $131,000,000
The Commuter
Release Date: January 12, 2018
Budget: $30,000,000
Box Office: $81,500,000
2.5x = $75,000,000
Profit = $6,500,000
12 Strong
Release Date: January 19, 2018
Budget: $35,000,000
Box Office: $46,400,000
2.5x = $87,500,000
Profit = -$41,100,000
Den of Thieves
Release Date: January 19, 2018
Budget: $30,000,000
Box Office: $45,900,000
2.5x = $75,000,000
Profit = -$29,100,000
Now, I don't think that the 2.5x multiplier method is necessarily the best way to estimate profits for movies that had budgets of less than $40,000,000, and you can kind of see why with the estimates for Den of Thieves, 12 Strong, and The Commuter. I think a 2x multiplier is a more accurate method for films of this scale.
Using the 2x for these films:
The Commuter
2x = $60,000,000
Profit = $21,500,000
12 Strong
2x = $70,000,000
Profit = -$23,600,000
Den of Thieves
2x = $60,000,000
Profit =-$14,100,000
But, as you can see, even when decreasing it to 2x two out of three of these movies are still looking at losing money. Their theater runs aren't over yet, and they will still make money through VOD and TV, but it's still not looking good for their studios as of now.
Pit Row
I miss the old days where films were produced specifically for the video rental store ... many of these B films have become cult movies over time ... turns out many films who flop in America (box office) are great successes overseas (mainly in Asia) personally not such a fan of blue / green screen movies... those asians love it tho
why?..was it just totally stupid?
