Live Timing

Love this race, been watching and following for as long as I can remember.

Plenty of Aussies have done well at this event, and a lot of South Aussies

An old riding buddy put together an effort last year and did a pretty neat documentary about the whole ordeal. This year he did a crowd fund and got budget to have a truck follow him around for daily updates from camp each day. His stuff is really good. He runs the Malle Moto class, which is the hardest group. No outside help. You do all your own repairs, feed yourself, and live out of a tent. Brutal stuff.

Awesome guy that did loads for the KTM adventure community by sharing all of his finds and tweaks about the bike.

Been following his projects for years, interesting and and entertaining stuff he's putting out.

Personally I think www.trackingdakar.com is better then the official dakar site if you want to follow the tracking. The site just has a easier lay-out. The original dakar site is like a maze.

Ouch, tough landing. Pushing the limits on the first day is always a bad idea.

The first day is only 31km of Special. Just a quick sprint to get the field sorted.

Yup, it's actually pretty dumb to win the first stage. You wanna be in the top 10 but most guys don't wanna win it because that puts you at a disadvantage. Always pretty hard to be the first one to navigate through.

More interested in how Toby Price will do, guy just started riding again after last years Dakar crash.....Straight back into it.

Short is going well but a whole different set of balls are required to put it on the line for Dakar. I don't think Shorty will be willing to risk it enough for the win, smart move I think.

Shorty sitting in 25th after day 2. To put in perspective he’s 25 mins back on 3h and 18 mins of racing.

Really impressive to see Laia Sanz ahead of him in 20th as well. Girl is fast!!

Already getting interesting. Shorty will be under orders to get to the end, you dont win this event, without finishing it first.

Bareda has been fast for many years but always has a an off at some point.

Bryce Menzies wrecked his car pretty good

Said his co driver called the note, but he didnt think it looked that bad.. and kept his foot in.. rookie error. I know they get to pre run most of the Baja stuff, this is all blind, just off a road book , its harsh if you get it wrong,

So far so good for Brabec.

Dakar results site sucks, maybe I'm doing it wrong but I can't find any bike results past 13th.

How is Esposito doing?

Go here: https://gaps.dakar.com/2018/dakar/aso/ukie
Click the 'Results' tab for stage results, and click 'Rankings' tab for overall. They are updated as riders cross the checkpoints/finish line.

That GasGas is actually just a re-branded KTM Rally Replica. Weird deal kinda, but goes to show just how important Dakar is on the world stage that one brand is willing to race another brand just to have their name/presence in the race.

You're right, it's a matter of pride for GasGas:

http://www.gasgasmotos.es/en/news/793-torrots-gasgas-rally-team-ready-f…

After having competed four times in the prestigious endurance race -from 2012 to2015-, GasGas returns to the Dakar with an ambitious project to face the greatest off-road challenge. Therefore, GasGas has chosen to provide their Dakar bikes with KTM engines, the best option that exists to dispute that race.

"It's a question of pride to return to a historic brand such as GasGas to the world elite of motorcycling with its participation in a rally with the demands of the Dakar. This is the confirmation that we have managed to turn around the Company situation and position it again as a world leader in off-road motorcycling ", affirms the CEO of Torrot, Iván Contreras.” Our expectation this year is to race again in this type of competition to have greater aspirations in the near future" he added.
