I'm not sure how they do it, but capstead mortgage (CMO) has been returning 10%+ dividends for over a decade.

The stock price never moves, but the common shares have been kicking back 10-12% like clockwork. They have preferred shares available too that don't pay as much but have a little more security in that they have get paid out first in the event the company collapses.

Well, here we are almost 2 years into this thing. All I can say is I wish I started doing this when I was a kid. I would have long since been retired. Smile Very pleased so far.

Ha ha. Sure I do. Smile One thing I do have Trump to thank for is giving me the incentive to 100% give up watching TV. Smile I feel so liberated. Smile

I gave a ton of money to Wells Fargo and said make my money make me money. Called me twice to congratulate me on 18 percent this year. 18 percent of a lot is a whole lot. My daughter invested in her own portfolio not long ago. Including Bitcoin. She said she has exciting news about her profits. My personal ghost portfolios always do well but i want to give it a shot again when its right.

Economy's roaring. Won't read or hear about it though. MSM too focused on what an idiot Trump is and also the Mueller Russia collusion investigation. Ultimately though, I'm sure the booming economy is part and parcel of Obama era policies. Laughing

Okay this is about the stock market, not about Obama or Trump. I don't want this thread getting flushed because of either of those two idiots. For the record, I have seen nearly identical gains under both of them.

Mods, it you have to flush anything please flush the few individual posts and not the entire thread.

I was out of the loop on Roku, looks like they just IPOd a couple of months ago. I have a Roku device, maybe I'll throw a little money their way. Smile

My buddy bought 1 bitcoin early this year when it was down around 1000. I thought he was crazy. He's thinking he may be able to retire off of it here shortly. Smile

I'm confused, say bitcoin was 1000 now it's say 20000. How do you retire off that?

1) He's thinking it will be much higher than $20k soon.
2) He wasn't serious.

I have rediscovered my love for woodworking thanks to him. There is an amazing amount of serenity in a sharp chisel, some sandpaper and a beer.

Nice! Smile Seriously, I haven't turned on the Satellite in probably over 6 months. I used have the TV going 24x7. I really do feel a lot better without it. No blood pressure issues. Smile But, I digress. . Smile

Well, here's the deal. If you do have any money lying around in your savings/checking account, doesn't have to be a lot, you can open a Scottrade (or Ameritrade, or ...) account and invest a little of it in something. Your savings account is making you what, 1%? You can pick most any stock and make that much without even thinking. And you can get your money back out if you "have" to really easily. So it seems to me that it's worth putting at least a little chunk in there. I feel like I should have way more in there than I do right now myself. I've been "dabbling" now for two years and if I had been doing a little more than dabbling my money would have made a lot more money. But I'm still a n00b so it all could come crashing down tomorrow and I could lose it all too. Smile

Oh, and it looks to me like if you want something that's fairly safe but makes a lot more than a savings account I would go with something like SPY. That has had really good steady growth for a long time. It's done very well for me the last couple of years and appears as though that will continue.

From the looks of things lately. ANYTHING
But beware, it seems to go in cycles. When the market is red hot
everyone jumps in and the smart money starts getting out and going into
real estate. then the market tumbles and folks start to follow the trend
into real estate (after the smart ones already made much higher profits)
Then when the real estate prices are real high the smart money starts to
convert back into the stock market. By the time average Joe follows he
didn't do so well.
Just an observation

Yep, I wish I opened a small account 20 yrs ago, buy S&P 500 and various ETF's associated with S&P 500 and just keep adding to it.

I'm about 2 yrs into my Roth IRA and the difference between that and a savings account is insane.

I watched a documentary on bit coin last night and i'm more confused then before i watched . Bit coin miners make money by how many transactions they can process a day ? Doesn't that still open the door for the rich to control the money? Like i said ,i'm super confused about it . Only 21 million bitcoins will ever be available? The guy who created the bit coin system just vanished.

The person or entity that created bitcoin is unknown, so it's unclear if vanished or hiding.

The bitcoin pump and dumps are interesting. Sounds like an exclusive club fudging the numbers and reaping huge profits.

Not sure how cryptocurrency works. Won’t be long until it gets regulated id imagine. So damn risky I don’t wanna put my money into it. Risks reap reward but I’m too chicken....
