I'm still waiting for "give Emig some time, he'll get better as he gets more comfortable" that everyone was saying three years ago. Seriously, Cameron was 10 times better, with arguably just as much insight. It doesn't take a champion to explain how fast Stewart is, and dirt bike racing makes your heart rate higher than normal.

When watching the speed report I swear Emig was stoned. It was kinda funny.

I follow the sport closely.. but i'll never pretend i know more than Emig about it like some of you. he's been an sx champ and an mx champ and mxdn champ.... and he goes to every single race and knows the racers on a personal level. noone here can say any of that.

not saying Jeff doesn't know shit about the sport.

"Ryan Dungey's strategy is to win this race..." no shit?! wow! thanks guys! joe six-pack wouldn't have understood what was going on without that little tidbit of info.

what i'm saying is that they are paying these guys. all three of them are on the payroll. after 4 years, they should at least have a grasp of what the hell they are doing.

it's like hiring a past pole champion fatty to come strip for your buddies bachelor party. sure she knows what she's doing, but there are plenty others, probably non-past pole champions, that can do a much better job for the same pay.

what we have now makes our sport look juvenile and very annoying to watch. even to the non-hardcore fan.

whats with the explanation of the colors of bikes and the color of the riders gear? who gives a flying f**k? they have been "educating" the viewer for the last 4 years. what they are doing is making the viewer dumber.

"so how is the weather condition going to affect the riders Jeff?" fuckin seriously?? give me a break.

I think you forget that new people are coming into the sport all the time so its normal to educate all the time. The color of the bike is used to help to quickly show the casual fan or new fan whats going on when the number is hard to see or they don't know the riders names. Its all good to me.
And as far as Ralph goes, he does have an annoying sounding voice but when he asks Fro some stupid sounding questions, it is just to set Fro up as the expert. I am quite certain Ralph knows the answers to most of his questions..

This is how all sports commentating works, one is the straight guy that calls the race/game and the other provides the expert opinions but try not to talk over the heads of the casual fan.

All things considered i think they do a good job this year and are sounding more enthusiastic like the canadian guys used to in the great white north!

i started watching Nascar recently. HUGE difference in the way the racing is portrayed. they don't try to educate down to the smallest detail. why? because most people have the common sense to understand what is going on, even when the announcer mentions a small inkling to a detail. they don't have to grind into your head every second what is going on. every viewer isn't a drooling 3 year old.

anyone who thinks the broadcasts are doing a good job portraying our sport are just blinded by their love of the actual sport.

can i do a better job? hell no. but that is why i am in Construction Management, not Racing Broadcasts. had i tried to get a job doing commentating for any sport, i would make damn sure i was making the sport look professional. and if i was in charge of the broadcast, i sure as hell would make some HUGE changes to what is going on. whoever is in charge needs a reality check.

emig actually looks like he wants to be there and he wants to see the racing. that is good, langston would kick ass as a commentator too.

anyone notice how Ralph is always standing in Emig's bubble? he has to actually hold his head back to keep from touching forheads...

i mean, they're touching arms most of the time, and that's the arms that hold the mics... just sayin, standing that close to someone lets them know exactly what you had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... if i were emig i would punch shaheen in the sack and tell him to get outta my bubble.

Bobby, there is no way you can actually think Emig is doing a good job. It doesnt take an expert to realize this isnt the right job for him.

Remember the days when you would wait for that once a year GP on Wide World of Sports?

It's amazing how spoiled we get, and the unrealistic expectations abound.

It's moto cross racing people, what are you expecting. We get same day, next day, replay, internet play, message board back and forth, and some are still pissed it's not good enough...
X2..we never had anything before

regardless of "never having it before" or not, this is a professional motorsport and should be regarded as one. watching a broadcast, it is unlikely that any new fan is going to be impressed with it, and it's been the same piece of garbage for the last 4-5 years.

anyone who brings up the lack of coverage in the past needs to get with the times. we're living in a time where news is spread instantly and professionally through the internet, tv, radio, etc...

the North Eastern Semi-Regional Quarter Finals in Super Modified +300cc Riding Lawnmower Racing gets better television coverage and commentating than supercross/motocross...

If Emig had someone to play off of that wasn't a complete pile of shit, he would be much better. Sheheen is the problem but most of you already knew that.

You would all be surprised to know how little they get paid to do this show and in saying that, getting Bob Costas and 'insert great motocross commentator here' is not gonna happen at these rates.

Oh, and holy hell, can you guys over analyze a broadcast or what?! Do you clowns take notes during the broadcast on what Emig/Shaheen/Bates said so you can go piss and moan about on the web?

How about just watching the race.

Ha! Honestly, I would dig that enormously. You people are to mainstream, scared or whatever to dig a verbal artist like boobM.

im just happy to see racing with a pretty good broadcast production and more than reasonable time slots. Sure emig needs to hit his points faster and ralph sheheen keeps talkin about this elusive "james Reed" fella, but all in all I think were lucky to have the broadcast we have and should be thankful.

Jeffro does an awesome job. So, I'm not sure what you are talkign about. Shaheen on the other hand needs a new job.

i think they saw this thread because the CBS broadcast was straight forward...not too many useless comments, an improvment.
