The forks and clamps are from an '05 crf250. I thought about getting some aftermarket clamps but ill try this configuration out first to see if i like the distance from the centerline of the footpegs.
It does have taller seat foam, cr bend high bars, and the fastway pegs in the lower position. Just sitting on it to me is quite comfortable. Actually has more room than my brothers yz450f. The seat height is taller also.

Does this '96 shock look stock or is the bottom of the valve body aftermarket?

aftermarket bladder cap, much nicer for maintenance. I need to put that on my list for the 95 125, it will be here in a few weeks. I'll have a similar front end, an 08 crf set of forks and wheel, and custom applied clamps on the 95 stem. Enjoying your build, very unique.

Looks like a Pro Circuit bladder cap, I have one on my 96 also...the 96 shock can be made to work pretty good with stiffer spring & revalve to match the newer forks....

Nice build. I too am/ was one of those that grew up in 90s, but could never afford a honda. In 05ish i found a hammered 95 cr and brought it back to life. I had its big brother, would race both the 250/500 on same day, was always fun, but was also cool b.s ing with dudes about them
Some things to help your motor out, a digital ignition from a newer 250, like 99-01 would be a nice addition. If you can find an older vforce 2, that works better than the 3 on that motor, well most for that matter.
Clean up those powervalves good, and make sure its all working right. The 92-01 pv was simplier than the 86-91 design, but still ive seen more of 92-01 screwed up than working right.
That motor is a jet though, mine had a mild port job, stock compression, thermal coatings, pipe/ silencer, carb, etc and had no troubles pulling me around ( 6'5", 220).
I used a 96 rear shock ( adjustable high spd compression) and a old devol linkage, and twin chambers up front. That bike handled awesome
If you ever feel you need more rear brake, a 240mm rear rotor from a 97-01 will bolt right up, just use a 97-99 rear caliper bracket.
I sold mine back in '15. Miss ripping that thing.

A question, you make the tabs for the skidplate? Or was it like that when you got?

I have been looking at putting 01 electronics on it. Ive got the motor partialliy disassembled. Heads beat up as is the cylinder.

I got the tabs from a circle track supply and drilled the hole to accept a larger diam bolt. I fitted the skid plate (cut off section of a quad skid plate) and welded the tabs. Counter sunk the skid on bottom. I still need drill a drain hole in the skid to get the plug out.

I picked up a nylon Flo yellow bar pad for this. I couldn't pass up the Fly bars though. $25 brand new with a set of Odi lock ons like i use on my X2's and Standup skis.

I got around to Cerakoting a few parts burnt bronze. Really easy to do. I read about some people having issues on a few shooting forums but if you have any experience painting its a cake walk.
The ignition and clutch covers were very rough castings. I wasn't very satisfied with them so i spent about an hour sanding.

Those are really smooth. Mine were from italy, not a big deal with being rough though since im going to ride it. Plus much better than the stock covers.

Amazingly the covers and calipers are both burnt bronze but the covers look grey under my 4k fluorescents of my garage.

I've got an '01 cylinder and head on the way brand new from honda and a honda crank/rod also.
Hinson clutch plates and fibers along with springs. I dont think ill opt for a basket or pressure plate just yet- maybe next week lol.
I split the cases tonight. Everything looked fine except for this little nasty. Was a little disappointed in the fact it was busted but i'll take it to work and weld it up.

ughhh, sorry to see it okie I have seen many cr's with this same problem.Guess the cranks let go and are taking these out at an alarming rate. My 94 has this. saw some repairs done with aluminum braze rods, I would guess tig weld is the way to go though, I don't think new cases are available.

Yeah cases arent made any more. My other '95 has the bottom of the cases busted on it instead. I haven't fixed this case yet, just sitting on the welding table at work waiting for me to get time.
The good news is i received some more goodies from the santa claus wearing brown last night.

Keep it up that thing is looking super trick! And yeah, that bladder cap is def not stock!

Oh yeah, regarding the motor, I weigh #235 and this is the most impressive 2T 250 motor I've ridden. No problems with power. It has a very manic powerband, and dead nuts reliable when taken care of.

The case is fixed! Actually have the right side assembled with the crank installed and transmission gears back inside. Need a crank install tool for the left side to get the cases back together.

Here's the busted right case after welding and running a boring attachment in the end mill to clean up the weld. It didnt like welding very well at first even though i baked it in the over twice trying to get the oil residue from the casting.

Looks good. That should work just fine. I had a couple of cracks to fix in my crank case area. We welded them up and cleaned them up much like you. It should start to come together soon now.

The build is looking great! Very nice work.

Where have you folks picked up the Honda Racing ignition cover (or replica)? I managed to find an original Honda Racing clutch cover, but am just having some trouble with the ignition cover and was curious where you folks are finding them (replica is fine).

A guy in england does them. He makes an exact replica of the works parts, down to the clutch oiler on the right cover.
I have his email if you need
They are who okie got his from. Made from billet.

Haven't posted in a while on this thing. Been busy with work and other projects but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Plus I've started building another track and rode my brothers yz450 the other day. Those brakes sucked! The ol' booter '95 smoked it on front brake with wore out pads and rotor!

I got my '01 cylinder and head back from PC. Setup to run race gas. The porting isnt as heavy as i would of expected but ill trust my guy that did my suspension as he was a factory honda mechanic when this bike was new. He says that PC portwork is what the factory bikes looked like back then so we will see.

I need a carb yet and am going with an Air Stryker, but do i go with a stock bore carb or one thats been bored/ported.
My mods thus far are-
Pc porting and head mod
Vforce3 setup
PC Works pipe and silencer
Looking for an '01 electronic

Im thinking of drilling the side number plates as in the past every bike i did this too i had to re-jet bigger. So i know they made more peak power.
Any wisdom on airbox mods or tricks?
Id like to build a carbon fiber airbox this winter. Ive dabbled in carbon fiber parts in the past and i believe i can produce a carbon airbox.
