82' and 87' pw50 for my twins

i picked up a pair of pw's about a year or so ago for my 3 year old twin boys. Bought one for $100, non running, and the other for $150 barely running. So I tore them down and completely rebuilt them. The boys definitely aren't fast yet but at least they look good on their new (30+ year old) bikes.

Nice looking ride's for the kiddo's, I'm sure they'll have a blast. I use to flag at the local track and always loved helping the little one's get back on their bike after they fell over, actually, it was fairly comical at time's but made for some great memories. Good on you, and have they argued over which color yet ?

One has had everything red since birth and the other has everything blue, we chose their colors for them before they were old enough to realize haha. Now they know what is theirs by the color. Makes things easy.

Some more detailed pics, and more info would be appreciated. I'm just about in the market for a pw50.

It looks like motoseat seat covers? How did you get a red tank? Is it painted or decals? Where did you source your parts? Paint or powder coated frames/wheels?

Just because it's a pw50 doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a detailed write up.

Yes moto seat cover on oem seat. I got the compete plastic kits including tank from eBay for about $55, tank plastic is red not decal or paint. I used all balls bearings and chinese top end kit from eBay. Gold wheels I painted, black wheels i bought off eBay for around $115.

Great job! I looked at getting a pw50 for my oldest (he's 3) and almost pulled the trigger before changing my mind and getting him an oset. I couldn't believe how much people were asking for PWs in my area. I'll probably go this route if I get him one when his brother is ready for the oset.

I just picked up a barn find PW that I'm going to restore for my daughter. I have plenty of time to get it ready as she's only 16 months. I saw an entire top end kit on Ebay that included the cylinder, head, and carb. Is this the one you used? If so, how is it performing?

I wish more people shared your logic for getting their kids started.

Find an old bike, restore it to like knew, and still be competitive in the PW class with new ones. So much smarter than buying a new bike that will be outgrown in ~2 years.

I think this mentality also teaches your kids that is OK to ride used bikes and there is value in making your own repairs. You are teaching them lessons that will set them up for the rest of their lives!

Yes I got it on ebay for about $50 but it didn't include a carb. It came with cylinder, head, piston & rings. Both of my pws had stock mikuni carbs so i can't vouch for the chinese carbs.

Exaclty. At their age who cares how fast they are, they're just learning. I just want them to have fun.
