I'm not sure how many of you reading this remember Wonder Warthog Racing (2003-2009)? It was a series of programs created by Scott Kandel and me, whose sole purpose was to provide resources to struggling privateer racers in the Supercross and Motocross series. What began with WWR reimbursing the entry fee of any privateer making the night show at a SX race, eventually morphed into as many as 20 privateers racing out of our semi and 100 ft. free-standing tent. We distributed well over a million dollars cash to the guys who really needed it, before the economic crash of 2008 sucked the life out of everything in it's path.

The program may have failed, but the spirit of the hog still lives. It lives and is on display every weekend under the stewardship of former WWR volunteer, Ted Parks. His Privateer Journey pit set-up is as impressive as any factory effort and Ted truly took our original concept and improved it exponentially. Thank you, Ted!

The spirit of the hog is also alive in former WWR team manager, Darrel Saldana, who stepped up to the plate over the weekend and won the auction for the autographed Hangtown banner I had on eBay. His $2550 will be very helpful in offsetting the costs of producing my next Big Air Kid's Fair at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Thank you, Darrel!

I'm still blown away by how innovative the program was. I certainly don't think of it as a failure, in any way shape or form. Hopefully there are more ideas like this out there. Steve, love what you do for the kids hospital.

It's really cool that you organize the Big Air Kid's Fair.

Whats Scott Kandel up to these day? He would be a good candidate for a Racerx "where are they now" segments.

WWR made me proud to be a motocrosser. You selflessly helped people live thier dream and opened doors for riders that wouldn't of had the opportunity otherwise.

Yep!

Since my heart failure and loss of some memory I can't remember why they closed shop!

Googled Kandel a while ago, when he came to mind. Still leading a "colourful" life, as far as his ex is concerned. Poor bugger, seems a little eccentric.

That guy has serious issues.

Respect for putting his money out there into the sport, but he is not a well man.

Still have one of the shirts too and he was all about the big tent philosophy! It was a really neat idea for sure.
