What would you recommend for 5'4" 150lbs, I used to have a cr85 which was great, but have been told to get a 125 so just wondering what is recommended for that height - just ride for fun, nothing serious.
Thanks Smile

At 150lbs. You're too heavy for an 85. Get a 125/150.

Do you, by any chance, own a cat?

How old are you? A 100 might be better since you're only 5'4

I was going to mention that you'll grow into the 125 but at 21 and only 5'4" I'd say it safe to say you stopped growing. Must be a women? You can always cut down the seat to make it more suited for your height.

Yes lol, Yeah my feet just touched the floor on a 125 so if I get it lowered should be fine!

I'd get the 125. Seriously. You're too big for the 85. 125s are so fun. You can't go wrong. Yeah, it'll be a little tall, but I don't think you're done growing yet - least I wasn't when I was 21.

Haha trust me I'm done growing, males can still be growing up to 21 but not females - Yeah I know someone who said they can lower it. Thanks all - will go for 125. Smile

I suggest a 250f for just play riding. A 125 better if ridden kinda hard. You can do putting around easier on a 4-stroke. Same seat height. I push 2-strokes, but in your case, I wouldn't.

Yeah you aren't gonna get any taller. Get a 125. If you aren't trying to race, take a look at the KTM 200. Might be more fun for you as its a bit easier to ride.

^^^ 125's are lighter to maneuver than the 250f. She won't get as tired quickly with the 125.

Edit: forgot to quote loftyair's post.

If 2 strokes are your fancy. might I suggest looking into a 500. Power delivery is smooth and it is a great bike for beginners. If you run the green power band and properly torque your sprocket bolts it's a winning combination.

I can ride so no need to worry about 'ease', and will be using it at tracks just not racing Smile I liked the 85 as its nippy, only recently got rid of it - wouldn't want bigger than 125 I don't think, and really want to stick with 2stroke.

There's a reason they don't make 500's anymore. Not sure what your skill level is but I'd stay away from those unless you're a really skilled rider.

Stick to a 125/150.

Pick up a YZ125. Drop the forks in the clamps a bit, a linkage that lowers it and cut the seat foam a few mm and you're good to go. It will feel tall for the first couple of rides but you'll get used to it. It's also much easier to clear stuff/rail ruts with the larger wheels compared to a 85.

I'm not sure what size wheels were on your CR85 but they offered a "big wheel" version. The KX100 has the big wheels so it sets higher than the standard 85's but not as high as what a 125 will. Kawasaki re-introduced their KX100 last year (?) after being discontinued a few years ago. KTM had their 105SX up until a couple of years ago. Either of those bikes should be available used. A 100cc two stroke will require frequent piston/ring replacements as would a 125cc.

I bought a late nineties KX100 as a basket case, rebuilt it and put on a big bore kit. This was a bored cylinder with a 125cc piston so it ended up at 107cc I believe. I put a pipe off a '04 KX100 on it (larger outlet) and that thing had good low end power and was a pretty nice machine for my kids. Not as "hot" as the '04 KX100 my son had but seemed to have better low end power.

This guy might have a KX100 for sale and may be near you:

Get a 125 and cut the seat down a bit if you need to. Then if you decide to, you can still race it.

DON'T get a KTM125 or KTM150!

If I recall correctly, you can't cut the seat foam very much. The YZ125 would be your cleanest option.

Pro Circuit also sells these slick teeth that you can weld onto the stock footpegs to bring your feet higher. You may not feel it's necessary, but it'll make a huge difference in your riding as you'll be able to use more body language to control your bike with your needs.

Let's see. Oh, don't cut more than 10mm's off your subframe. It will just throw off the egro of how everything fits.

And of course, there's the expensive things like having Race Tech shorten your shock and forks. Not a bad idea, but it's expensive. Trust me on all this. I know a bit too much how to lower a bike. Smile

Why wouldn't you go with a KX100? It's the next size up and the most logical choice. It'll be a little taller, have good power that you can still handle, and is very reliable.
