Hello guys! I am new here but i never find an answer for my question so i thought i could find it here. First I have Gas Gas 2003 EC 300 cc and i ride only Enduro- Idk if its woods or else.I am 180 cm high and i find it difficult to ride standing. Not because of my height. I stand on the balls of my feet, elbows out, i look forward, my knees grips the seat and other techniques but i just cant hold on that bike. When i ride a hillclimb its very hard for me to stand. When i accelerate my knees just slides back no matter how tight i grip the bike and that cause me to hand onto the bars very tight. So that i get arm pum very fast No matter i take big and deep breaths i still get exhausted quickly. If i stay seated all the roots and rocks just throws me around and i lose control and momentum. If i stay a little further when standing becase everyone says to stay forward so the bike pushes you I lose traction ?? Help me please Smile

Sounds like a fitness/strength issue. To ride in the standing position you need good all round strength, particularly in your core. Try doing workouts which use full body movements, check out Ryan Hughes's training videos.

You could also buy a set of these:

Sounds like a strength issue as above. Do front squats so it works your legs and helps with back posture. Do them with the elbows up method. Dont cross your arms and lay your hands on your shoulders.

Also try the machine at the gym that works the adduction of your legs. I think the slang term for it is "good girl bad girl" or something like that. This will help you grip the bike tighter with less effort.

Try leaning just a little less forward or squat more. Your chin should be above your barpad.

Are you a tall person? That can make the sitting/standing transition harder.
I am a tall dude with long legs and my knees are too high to grip the bike with a normal seat. So I always run a tall seat. It sounds like you should work on your peg/handlebar/seat set-up. Make sure you are steering more with your lower body than your arms.

BTW I am 17.I do cardio, strength training and core too so it is not strength issue. I don't have the finance for steg pegs so... My knees just slide back

If you cant hold yourself forwards/back on a bike with just your legs, then you arent strong enough. You need to improve your adduction strength in some fashion. im assuming you have ky jelly all over the sides of your bike if you are in fact strong

Rather than squeezing with your knees, try squeezing with your ankles. (Your knees follow)
Also read recently point your toes in a little - makes sense.

Exactly what skypig said. I used to think when people said hold on to the bike with your legs, it meant squeeze your knees into the seat. Once I went out with an instructor I got all that nonsense fixed up. I'm 6' tall so it's actually a lot easier to press my ankles and inner legs up against the frame of the bike to hold it. Turning your toes in helps you with this grip naturally. Also if you're accelerating and squeezing the seat, your body is already probably a bit too far back on the bike. This of course depends on the bike and your height. When I'm in attack position and accelerating, I try to keep my head over the bars just enough so I can look down and see my number plate. My knees are actually slightly forward of the footpegs so that if I squeeze with them it's squeezing the first maybe six inches of the shrouds. This way the bike is pushing me when I'm on the gas. From what you describe, the bike is pulling you and it sounds like more of an issue with your overall body position.

What John said. When accelerating you have to actually feel like you're in front of the bike. It feels strange at first but you'll get used to it.

Also I don't know what kind of boots you're rocking, but it really actually does make a difference. I'm tall also so my knees are higher on the bike than most, but I found going from the Tech 8's with the leather interior to the Tech 10's with rubber type pad actually helped me a lot with grip. And as stated above directing your toes will tell your knees where to go.

I have a buddy that rides with an old track suit too. What he did was buy some Velcro. He glued one side to his bike and then the other side to his track suit. It works so well he always parks next to a tree with a low hanging branch. He rides up onto the bike stand, then hangs from the tree and steps out of the track suit which stays stuck to the bike.

If you take a bungee cord and tie it to your knee, then tie the other part to the rear fender, it'll help your knees straighten out. Combine that with the velcro idea, and you'll stay glued to that bike.

Ok, Mitkoo, seriously, so you're rocking an old iron curtain era Bulgarian tracksuit - no doubt made from the finest nylon the proletariat could produce. Aren't designer jeans still popular over there? Jeans, I would guess, should provide much better grippage. Find some "skinny" designer jeans and you'll be high stylin' and profilin'at the local track and possibly mitigating the slippage.

I see you're shocked at such a simple solution, Mitkoo. You'll be gripping the bike and showing the girlie men at the hill climb who's the boss.

I get the feeling this is Tamir trying to get you guys to chase his tail again.
What I find even better is people trying to give advice in these troll threads. Their not smart enough to see or figure out it's a troll and then they give their expert beginner advice.
